Name for therapist who solely specialises in eye treatments???

Hi

Can anybody tell me if there is a name/title for a therapist who solely specialises in brow and lash treatments?

When I say brow and lash treatments, I mean eyebrow shaping, including threading and waxing. Brow and lash tinting, eyelash perming/uplift, and eyelash extensions.

I dont know whether I am reading this wrong, but from your thread I read it in the sense that you mean a technical name for beautician that speacialises in eyes, as in nails-nail technician, back speacialist-chiropracter etc.....

If so,I would say: eye technician/beautician/specialist

Names aside - do you think there is a need for such a service seeing as most beauty therapists already offer all these services anyway, and many more besides? Would there be enough business for someone to just solely concentrate on small eye treatment?

In my experience I have found most clients like the practicality of going to one place/person to have everything done, i.e. would they go to an eye specialist for their eyelash tint & then make a seperate journey to a beauty therapist to get their legs waxed, or just have their eyelashes tinted at the same place & time as the eyelash tint?

Eye enhancement specialist?

Hmm, I'm working my way through beauty courses this year, done my spray tanning, nail extensions, mani / pedi, waxing, brow and lash tinting, lash perming, brow shaping, next on the list is lash extensions and then threading so I would also like to call myself a beauty therapist, specialising in eye enhancement techniques.

Yeh absolutely, I think there is room for specialists in any field. Not enough of them if you ask me.

There is so much you could do as an eye enhancement specialist, lashes, brows, tinting, perming, make-up.

If you marketed yourself well, I think it could be a winner, I'd use one.

But there's nothing there that you couldn't have done at nearly any other beauty salon, which begs the question why anyone would go to an 'eye beauty specialist' in place of any other salon?

Simply because they are 'specialists'!

See now this is my gripe about this industry..and its just MY OPINION before I get shot down in flames.... there are not enough specialists and too many therapists that do everything. They go to college for 3 years, learn how to do all the treatments and keep doing those SAME treatments the SAME way for years and years, with no additional 'up to date' training.

I think if they all picked an area that they were particularly good at and specialised in it, the industry as a whole would be in a better place.

People come to me for their nails because thats what I specialise in, and I'm the only therapist in my area that does threading, so I'm busy with that too. I picked those things after researching my area and discovering that no-one 'specialised' in them.

Thank you everybody for your suggestions. The title 'Eye Enhancement Specialist' says it all and is perfect. :hug: Will continue to focus on this area and cultivating it.

Theres no better job satisfaction than when a client who has hardly any brows from years of overplucking and shaving has come to you because they have been told your good and by the time I'm finished with them, their happy as Sally with strong and defined eyebrows again and they can't thank you enough because they look a few years younger and have beautiful eyebrows again and come back because they won't have anybody else touch them.

I suspect the reason there aren't more specialists is for the simple reason that there is little demand for it.

It would simply be an inconvenience for someone to go to an eye specialist for their eyelash tint, then a foot specialist for their pedicure & a waxing specialist for their leg wax when they could go to one place for all three. No-one wants to make multiple trips when they don't have to, which is why supermarkets are so popular.

Whilst some might do treatments the same way forever, my experience is that most therapists constantly retrain. I have been in the industry 13 years & probably do 2 weeks minimum of further training a year. But to be honest whilst things do change, some things change very little - take eyelash tinting for example, it doesn't change sufficiently to make it something you would need to constantly revisit as far as technique is concerned.

I believe there is a growing market for "eye stylists". Guess it depends on where you work?

In Sydney Australia, it is very popular. People pay up to $80 to get their eyebrows done by this lady Sharon Lee.

I had a look at those three links & the first two also do other other treatments including pedicures, manicures, facials, body waxing & make-up. The last one seems also to do fashion make-up.

Ive not heard of a name as such and I can't think of anything other than things like eye specialist, eye therapist etc but that would make me think of an optician lol.

With regards to clients going to a specialist and there being the demand for it I guess it all depends on what sort of area you live in. I would imagine this being popular in cities but in smaller market towns or the country I really can't see it being a popular choice.

Having said that I have a few clients that will only have their eyebrows threaded and specifically go to a brow bar within selfridges to have this done but they have all said if I offered threading they would come to me, sadly for them I have no desire to train in it !

Its a difficult one as I can see that in certain areas it may well take off but as Martin says not many people want to make multiple trips. I wouldn't dream of having my hair cut and coloured at two different salons as for starters I couldn't be bothered with the extra time it would take and it would cost more when you add on the petrol, parking etc not to mention with just a colour id have to pay extra for a blow dry whereas having it cut at the same time includes this.

I see your point. The eyebrow queen Sharon Lee, she started off doing eyebrows and became so famous. Over the years her services expanded.

The point I wanted to make was in Sydney, the concept of going to a facialist, brow specialist, waxing specialist, nail tech, etc.. at different places was what many people would do. Yes they do offer other complimentary treatments but primarily a place would be known for a particular service.

Ok how about this example, what about Strip (the distributor of Lycon wax) they do specialist waxing and lingerie? celebrities go to them for waxing.

I also saw in a recent beauty magazine, two hand and foot spa salons was setup in Wimbledon and Richmond.

Emeraldmaya's treatment are all about the eyes. Not only does she do the typical eye enhancements she is adding on lash extensions. Ok many salons offer this but unless the therapist does this very regularly I would doubt the therapist be as good as someone who was specialised in this treatment.
