Hi All!,

I am booked onto a waxing course on Thursday! I am looking for a kit to purchase A.S.A.P. as I have been advised to practice practice practice before the assesment. Any advice on kits...I have been looking at Hive starter kit..does I need the kit with only one particular kind of wax or the more expensive that provides a couple of different options..I AM CLUELESS AT THE MO!!!!!!

Thanks!

If you haven't done any waxing before I am amazed that your wax training provider has asked you to practise, practise, practise as (a) you won't know what your doing or if you are doing it right and (b) you could cause someone some damage.

Don't always go for the cheapest option as it can then cost you quite dearly in replacing everything once you have got started.

I would say that the Hive heaters are a good start but I am not overly keen on the hive waxes. Do you know what wax you will be training with?

I have just finished my training this weekend and bought a kit through the training provider. It was the Babyliss Pro you can get a lot on beautyexpress there are loads of kits on there that you can buy,

I must say I was impressed with what you get in the kit and it was only £50.

We were taught on the sat to wax and I practised and finished my case studies on the sat night then went back on the sunday with a model to show that we could do what we had just been trained in.

I can not wait to get started oroerly when I get my certificate now.....

Good luck with your course,

Cath

Thanks for response Joe90,
They have told us to practice after passing the course on friends and family, its a one day course so should be passed fairly quickly!! Think thats normal...They will be training us with Hive warm wax and have actually recieved some info from them after I posted my question, Il be purchasing the starter eqiupment from them and its actually cheaper than buying it from the wholesaler....Thanks a lot x

Thats great! Hope ur cerftificate doesnt take too long!

Personally i think this is not enough time to be able to then go out and be good at waxing and to charge paying clients.
I did my training over two years which was waxinig three time a week and as well as practical we had theory twice a week. To learn the structure of the skin, the hair growth, contra indications to treatment, how to wax, ie eyebrows, top lip, bikini and so on, requires so much more than a day. What qualification will u receive at the end of it hun. Sorry to sound so down hearted just can not for the life of me understand why these courses are being run and people are getting qualifications and insurance after a day to go and work on clients , sheer madnesss

It does seem very quick however, rather than me pay out for a years course that I may not enjoy or be very good at, Im opting to try the day course and see how it goes...I can practice for as long as is needed before taking the assesment, and I am welcome to go back and train with them as much as I need before being assesed? It seems to make sense for me to do as I have a baby to look after, will soon be returning to part time work alongside (hopefully) mobile waxing so time really isnt on my side! Sorry if it seems the completely wrong thing to do!

Hun, i think it is a brilliant idea, i just feel that one day simply is not enough to cover even the basics.
Even though my course was so extensive and i have gone on to do further advanced training i still am learning now, but going out there and working on clients after such limited training would have frightened me to death.
Have u looked at your local college courses as they probably offer training one day or one evening a week over a year.
I just feel that all though it will give u an insite it could also make u hate it as u will have had limite time in the classroom to gain a little more knowledge and training. It is good that you can keep going back for more training untill your essesment though, do u have to pay extra for this or is it part of the entire cost.

I wish u all the look in the world and hope u enjoy your day, but if u do enjoy it would probably have a look at what local colleges offer to help u on your way in our industry xxxx:hug:

Ps may be even get your self an anatomy book or a level 2 beauty book which will have vasts amounts of info in for u. Like the layers of the skin, how each layer is made up, how different condition effect your waxing, the hair growth cycle and so on. This will all help u on your way.

Yes the extra training is free which I thought was pretty good..thanks for the advice with the training books. They do give us course material but everything that will help me in addition is great! Thanks again and have also had some great advice just from scouring this website..ITS FAB! x

I have only ever done an advanced waxing course with Hive and it was very good and I would advise anyone who is undertaking wax training to make sure they are getting an industry recognised certificate which will enable you to get insurance. I am sure Hive's courses are accredited so you should be ok.

Like Jenny2 I do not think that 1 day is sufficient to learn very much at all really and if the ongoing training is free (which seems too good to be true) then I would take as much advantage of that as possible and keep going back until you are confident.

Good luck with your course. If you were anywhere near me you could've come over and had a practice on me and received some tips at the same time, but I have no idea where tingley is.

Totally agree joe, and make sure when you complete a course u will gain relevent qualifications which are recognised in the industry by insurance companies and any one else for that matter. I have taken courses purely on a mentor basis and have no regrets whatsoever other than it is causing me problems to advance my skills and go on to do teaching in the future. I know have to take repeat exams with accredited courses to fullfill my life long dream, so will have paid out twice. But at the same time i would not have been were i am today with out such much needed training experience.
As i have said hun, good luck in your life long learning programme and above all enjoy because i for one am not in it just for the money lol:lol:

Hi

Who are you doing your training with?

I am thinking of doing mine with Training Solutions through Capital Hair and Beauty but want to make sure that I learn as much as possible on 1 day. Has anyone trained with these people?

I was originally going to do an NVQ waxing course at college but a lot of geeks put me off by saying that sometimes its quality not quantity that counts and some college tutors are so blase about everything that you don't really learn much. So I am confused. I guess the only thing is to go on a course and hope for the best, but it seems like such a lot of money to waste if you are not happy.

Then I will be practising like mad, there won't be a hairy person within a 20 mile radius of me!! :):)

No course is long enough to turn anyone into an expert waxer. As long as you learn the basics, it's how much you practice afterwards that matters. I see a lot of people who have been at college for years and they still can't wax. xxx
