I heard we are getting a NSS opening in our town soon, which you can guess I'm not be pleased about. Anybody else had this in there town?

How do you know it is going to be a NSS?

The best thing I can say is a bit of competition is a healthy thing and dont focus on slating them but focus on promoting what you do that makes you a class above them - like sanitisation and customer care.

I am sure that you will find it wont affect you. Good luck to you. x x x

Because there are 3 of them here in peterborough. They are starting a chain I think.
Hopefully you will get all their customers when they realise how unsanitary they work.
Unfortunatly its the same old problem. Cheap, quick nails, MMA, I know this because I used to go to the one here in peterborough for 3 years before I got trained myself and I am shocked at how bad the practise everything but I didnt know any better.
Straight in with the drill to remove layers of the nail plate, and cuticles. Then onto layering the acrylic in one step (which I was informed was gel as this is what I asked for), file off again with the drill and then you are done. Never mind the haeat spike while the stuff was curing they stick you under the table lamp to cure quicker, My nails would be killing me for a couple of hours after walking out but I carried on going because I had nice strong nails...... Oh how stupid and naive us unsuspecting general public are.
Until I trained I used to think (like most of the gen public that use these places) that they were great Little did I know.
I once caught my thumb in a fridge door and it snapped the nail and my own thumb nail underneath the enhancement half way down my nail bed. This thumb is now damaged from it. The nail (enhancement)didnt come off though!
Until the general public are educated in the proper application and practise of nail techs like us unfortunatly people are going to carry on going to these places and these places are going to keep popping up all over the place:mad::mad::mad::mad:

I have one NSS salon right near me as well as two other reputable salons who do nails and beauty.

Neither of these have effected my business at all. If anything i seem to get more because people look more in my area and find me.

Competition is healthy and keeps you on your toes.

gonna sound thick now but what is an NSS salon???

How do the nss get insurance etc I dont understand it as we all know what there up to with their money laundering cover ups etc how do they get away with it?? im lucky as there are no nns in my area how do they not get closed down???/?

ah thank you Lyndsay...... H x

got a couple in my area. they are always really busy . i think people just see the price and think its great . in my area when they see a sign for a set at £15 or a set at £25- 90% will choose the cheaper- until they see their natural nails after.....:smack:

its a shame.

until they see their natural nails after.....:smack:

Exactly....thats when they should then come to you!

I'm not plagued by NSS in my area (yet!) but i was in a previous one. Why not have a package on your price list - along with a small flyer explaing it if necessary - offering nail care for wrecked nails! Start with a gentle manicure and massage....lashings of nourishing cuticle oil, maybe a soak and lots of TLC. A gentle wrap overlay if the nails can take it, to protect them and a follow up in 3 or 4 weeks to continue the good work.

You never know...it might even be a nice way of putting a few people off in the first place if they see that on your price list!

Every problem presents an opportunity! (Gawd...thats deep for a Sunday!)

a couple of my regular clients had only ever been to a NSS and thought you had to have wrecked nails and take the pain if you wanted enchancements!- i have obviously shown them otherwise...........

GGrrrrrrr! They make me soo mad!

Use PopIts and fight back.

At least you would be able to do a set in 30-40 minutes and not cause the damage that is caused in the NSS. You would also be able to do the nails in sanitary conditions. To my way of thinking, that is the best thing about PopIts ... they finally give the good nail technicians a fighting chance against these places.

Thanks geeg got lots of plans in place.
