About as far South as you can get!
If you had to of course :)

Obviously in Britain, it's not up to us, but we do have American cousins on the site, and whoever gets into the Whitehouse will inevitably have some impact on Britain in the future.

I think I would vote Obama myself.

Your thoughts?

Obama for me too. We could do with someone like him here in Britain. A breath of fresh air.

McCain/Palin for me...

I just can't wait til it's over...I'm so sick of the political commercials and the candidate bashing, I could scream!

When it's all over, I just hope and pray the 'winner' does the very best for our country. That IS the bottom line! :)

I wish I knew the answer to that...it's been going on for about 18 months now and everyone I know personally, is sick of it!!!

Funny now, that the election is near, the price of gas has dropped from $4.39 to $1.99 a gallon. Hmmmm..... Interesting, huh??? :)

Good thread! To all those who would vote Obama, may I ask why? I'm just curious...

Obama for me!

My reason, Palin scares the life out of me. I should think that my 6 year old daughter knows more about the world than she does!!

And I do think that it would be a massively positive statement to the world to have a young, black man as the president of one of the most powerful countries in the world. He is a breath of fresh air to western politics (and I fancy him!!)

Basically, I like what Obama says and how he says it. I like his style and I would trust him.

McCain & Pallin just don't press any positive buttons for me at all - false and unconvincing.

I actually sent in my ballot from here and I voted Obama. First, because he seems sincere and whilst he may be lacking in "experience" in some areas, he has the intelligence and heart to do the right thing. He reminds me in a way of Abraham Lincoln. I think that the politicking is way too entrenched in Washington and "experience" really only means the ability to work the back room to your own means. The other darker reason is if someone does attempt to off him and succeeds Joe Biden has a much better handle on reality than Sarah Palin, who strikes me as a bobblehead.

The problem, JMHO, with John McCain is that his part of the old guard and doesn't have the insight into the world as it is today for the average person. I don't discount his experiences but I do have issues with his version of reality, his entrenchment in the "machine"; his unwillingness to see the other side, he strikes me as a "my way or the highway" type of guy.

Something has to change, and it has to change in a relatively swift and effective way. Being POTUS, in this day and age, is going to take someone who has energy, optimism, ideals and a clue as to what its really like for the average American. For me, thats Obama and Biden.

I'll leave it at that.
Peace

My sentiments exactly Christine... just heard that Obama's Mum has just passed away. How sad for him and his family

Sorry.. it's actually his grandmother who raised him who has passed away.

I'd vote for Obama for several reasons; firstly my political leanings are towards the left, and I'd be more inclined towards the Democrats if I were in the US (in the UK I am most likely to vote Green or Liberal Democrat).

Secondly (and this is not such a big issue in the UK), I do not agree with the "Religious Right" especially on issues such as outlawing gay marriage, treating the Genesis story as scientific fact rather than a metaphor and dissing Darwin's theory of evolution, etc. From my understanding, it's the Republican party who are more likely to push for the ultra-conservative views of the "Religious Right".

And thirdly, I think that Obama is a really nice guy, genuine and down to earth, and is in politics for all the right reasons, namely that he wants to make the world a better place.

Absolutely, the next US president need to been seen imediately to get on top of things such as the financial state of the country which has a knock on effect world wide,IMO the man to do that is Obama. There has been controversy about his religion and creed, tbh i can't see why people care as long as he does the job well.

I agree with what Nancy has said!!
I would vote Obama for all the reasons that have already been said by many people, i certainly wouldn't vote for McCain and Palin for many reasons one of which is the slaughtering of wolves and other animals that were previously protected.

What she said

Seriously though, much of what has been said is how I feel too. Obama seems fresh and liberal, a breath of fresh air. McCain seems to me to be too old and stuck in his world, not in touch.

Thanks to everyone for contributing to this thread, it's really interesting to see/hear what people think :)

Good thread! To all those who would vote Obama, may I ask why? I'm just curious...

I can't believe I amgoing to post my political view in public lol- I make a BIG point to never do that, but here we go ;)

I voted on Monday last week (we have early voting here in Colorado USA), and I voted for Obama/Biden.

I am what you could call a CONSERVATIVE Liberal, meaning I am mostly liberal, but not extreme in any way. ;)

Some of you may not remember that when I joined this site i was still living in Alaska- living in Palmer, right over the fence from Wasilla, where Sarah Palin is from, and was mayor- I lived in and around Palmer the entire time she was Mayor, and voted for her for Governor when she ran, and I won't make that mistake again.

And here is why:
She wants control over my ******. And I would like to keep that TYVM.
I believe in Gay rights, and their right to a civil union.
She also wants to "do God's work" from whatever office she holds. And as a United States Citizen, I believe in freedom of religion, and also in seperation of church and state.
She wants creationism taught in schools, and I believe in evolution.
While mayor of Wasilla, she cut funding for rape kits. This means when a victim is raped, and wants it investigated further, the woman that was victimized gets a bill if she wants to proceed. And this in one of the states with the highest rape incidence in the US.
She related foreign relations experience by seeing russia in her backyard.
Oh and she isn't sure she believes in global warming.

Wasilla is southeast Alaska, and all you can see in this VALLEY are HUGE MOUNTAINS.

I lived in Alaska for 18 years, and loved it there. I would never have left had my husband not gotten the job offer here.

Now I know I might hear, "But you are voting for the president, not the Vice President," He chose Sarah Palin to try and grab some of Hilary's voters, and that insults my ******. The pick was not thoughtful or sincere, and I think it says alot about the kind of president he will be. And poor old John is just that- VERY OLD. In fact, if he is elected, he will be the oldest president in US history. But that's not what bothers me- some of the wisest people I have ever known were elderly. But John MCCain is not an average elderly man-He also suffers from PTSD, and has had 4 bouts with cancer, which drops his life expectancy that only averages him 11 more years if he were completely HEALTHY. So we may very well be voting for Sarah Palin, although I wouldn't vote for JM even if he were younger and healthier. I simply don't agree with his voting record or resume.
He graduated 394th out of 399th in his class at the Naval Academy, and has voted 90% of the time with Bush's administration, who is nearing record lows in his approval ratings of any other president in US history.

Barack Obama graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard Law with a Juris Doctor, and was president of the Harvard Law Review. He has a BA from Columbia University in Political Science specializing in International relations. For 11 years, he was a Visiting Law and Government Fellow, then Senior Lecturer, in Constitutional Law at the University of Chicago Law School, teaching courses on the due process and equal protection areas of constitutional law, on voting rights, and on racism and law. Helped develop a casebook on voting rights.

If I were to remove the names of either candidate, and I was an employer looking for a new hire to protect the consitution, and make thoughtful judgements instead of brash ones, would I choose the guy who skated through the Naval Academy? Or would I choose the guy that TAUGHT consitutional law? I also have been reading what the rest of the world thinks of our elections on other sites on the net, and it seems more likely that the damage that Bush has done for our country's image and relations can't be repaired by JM.

Hmmmm.

Ok I have ranted enough for 2 years lol.

I will say though, that with about half of my friends, I simply agree to disagree. Variety is the spice of life, and we can't all be liberal or conservative- there has to be a balance. I love debate with educated voters, where at the end we have to call a draw because we can't change the others mind. But as long as it's give and take information, and not sheer stubborness lol.

Ok I'm done now. REALLY.:smack:
