I'm hoping someone on here can help me, I am having loads of problems trying to send e-mails using outlook express, I am receiving them fine but just cn't send them.
This has been happening for a few weeks now, I have been trying all day but may turn my computer off and turn it back on in the morning and everything will be fine.
This is the message that is coming up:

An unknown error has occurred. Account: 'pop.freeserve.co.uk', Server: 'smtp.freeserve.co.uk', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '421 Cannot connect to SMTP server 193.252.22.189 (193.252.22.189:25), connect error 10060', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 421, Error Number: 0x800CCC67

Can someone please help, this is driving me round the bend.

Your not on Virgin Media by any chance are you....because I know I had this problem when I was with them. Unfortunately I cant tell you how to fix it, because I've been on Sky Boardband for what seems like forever now and I cant remember what I did to resolve it. But I do remember it driving me round the twist.

Download thunderbird and install it, it's a much better email client and will import all your stuff from outlook.

Thunderbird - Reclaim your inbox

Mike

Hiya - it is likely a problem with your antivirus (the ip address indicates this) you could uninstall and reinstall that, or check the settings on it regarding email scanning. If you have email scanning set to ON in the AV (antivirus) then you need to turn if off. HTH Linds x

I've had a quick google for that error 10060, Socket Error 10060

The error message is displayed when the outgoing mail server at your ISP takes too long to respond, and Outlook gives up the ghost and times out.

So the primary culprit here would be your ISP, with either a flaky outgoing mail server or a flaky connection. Are you on broadband or dial-up incidentally?

Just checked the IP address and it is owned by France Telecom:

I guess the chances are that your ISP got eaten up by other ISPs who were eventually eaten up by France Telecom then???

I'm with orange on broadband, Mike, if I go with Thunderbird can I still keep my e-mail address though a all my clients know it and its on my website and don't really want to go to the expense of having to inform everyone and changing stationary.

After spending 20 minutes on the phone to orange trying to sort it out I'm no further forward, it didn't help that the person was foreign and I couldn't understand a word she was saying so she had to repeat quite a lot.
she talked me through changing my account, did all that but still can't receive so she came to the conclusion that it was a problem with Outlook express and that my computer would need fixed with a computer technician.
I'm managing to send with my hotmail account but its not ideal receiving with one and sending with another.

Hi

You can use Thunderbird without having to get a new e-mail address.

Is it possible that you might be running Zone Alarm or another firewall program that might be blocking Outlook from sending email? That might cause it to time out...

Yes you can.

The nice thing about it (which outlook express may do as well) is that you can set up multiple identities so you can receive from several email addresses and send from them as well, so I can use my personal email address and the various business ones from the same email account.

It's a far superior product to Oulook express and outlook and is free.

Yep, you can set up multiple identities on Outlook as well. But I'd agree that Thunderbird is nicer - open source too as opposed to Micro$oft.
