i have delayed launching my bridal makeup web site because i just cant seem to be able put good copy together for my home page
i have written it and re-written it a hundred times, and i just dont seem to be able to get it how i want
hence my other post re: wording for an advert of all things!
i would willingly pay someone to put good copy for me together following my outline requirements, dont know if such a service exists .. the rest of the site is ok, it just photographs and price lists
how did you come about with the wording for your web sites?

Trial and error honey - post me the wording let me look maybe I can help?

thanks, thats really kind of you
will pm you wording in cpl minutes, i have a bed time story to read first!
thanks again x

Cool logging off now but will have a look for you tomorrow - enjoy the story!

Hi Blush.

Go from the heart. Get out what you want to say, keep it simple and not overblown. If you want, have an 'about me' page, so you can keep the front to 'I'm XYZ, and work as a mobile makeup artist, covering ABC area, please feel free to look around my website and read my About Me page for more information'

Just make sure you have something eye catching on your front page to keep the reader reading!

if you want, I'll happily have a read of your copy if you like, I obviously have hundreds of makeup artist websites come past my nose, so will gladly offer you tips!

i changed my site loads of times until i was happier with it.. since i put it out 4 months ago.. as people start ringing and you see other sites you'l get ideas and you'l know what you want it to say info wise etc...

once its published you can always go back and edit etc.. if you have the function to change your site when you want..

so dont stress if its not perfect now..

Be yourself Blush and let your own personailty shine through. Post some of your copy and we can help xx

sam - maf
i wish i was a mac pro mua, lol .. i take it you're refering to my other post about kids pamper parties - i meant to say mac pro member, which i guess is pretty irrelevant anyway as i use mostly jane iredale and bling on the younger girls .. although i use items from my kit inc mac and bobbi brown on the teens, which they love
im already a member of maf and was planning to ask the same question on there as everyone is always so helpful and generous with their advice, but thought id test the water on salon geek first - everyones web sites look so stylish and professional, i just want to get it right before taking the plunge with paid advertising - i know at the end of the day its my makeup skills that count, but i think so many people go by first impressions, i just want my web site to come across right .. im looking forward to the day i submit my "completed" web site to the mua directory and upgrade to a pro chat member, lol

leonnib
i keep changing things and tweeking the wording then going back to my original version, perhaps i need an admin package like yours so i can change it to my hearts content (and drive myself mad!)

kim
im confident in what i do and how i present myself in person, but im not the most articulate person so i guess im worried i wont come across as very professional on my web site
going off to tweek my wording some more, lol and will post some sections im struggling with in the morning

thanks everyone, you've all been so helpful xx

Are you a member of the PrePro area on MAF??? pm me on there if you're not, and I'll upgrade you. You can talk privately on there, but also run ideas by the other members, who are effectively your client bank and target market, even if they're not in your area, they're the people who 'buy' our services after all!!!

S xx

sam - have pm'd you ..

The first thing to do is to check what is already out there on other sites in this industry. That was you can see what is the norm and see what you can / should do better or differently.

Secondly, don't delay it any more. Just put up what you have. Then review and improve it at regular intervals. This gives you time to consider it and see what you want to change. It also means that it will look fresh and different when a customer returns to your site - it will keep them coming back:green:.

I hope this helps?

I'm sure there are lots of freelance writers/ghostwriters out there who would be able to help; likewise many web designers would also be able to advise, particularly if they have worked on similar sites in the past.

What is the saying "Why re-Invent the wheel" have a look at other sites and the parts that apply to you and your salon, use yourself. Of course you will make it your own but that should solve the problem.

If you are promoting products, use the information and text on their sites, afterall you are promoting their products!

Before you know it you will have more text for your site than page space. :)

Will there not be issues with copyright there? I know zilch about copyright law, so I may be wrong but just thought it was worth throwing out there!

If you retail products from a particular company, then it's probably worth asking their permission first, just out of courtesy. However, surely it would benefit that company to have what is essentially free advertising for them on your own website - as it would be further promotion for their brand and range of products. Many companies (e.g. CND, Wow, etc), do provide a range of material which can be used on your own website (if you use their products) if you ask them.
