hey all, i have been scratching my brains on this for weeks and i am stuck! How do you mobile techs retail products or do you find it easier not to? I have thought about maybe making up a wee brochure/booklet thing with pics and decriptions of products i would like to retail and maybe giving them out to clients but i dont no if this would come across as being rude and pushy? I am moving house so i am not working right now but when i start up again i am giving a small free gift with first appointment not sure what yet lol, but i was thinking about putting a price list, business card and a brochure in with it in a little gift bag or something sorry to ramble on  just realised! What you guys think about this would be greatly appreciated???

thanks Korey :green:

I would personally start out with a couple retail items. Off the top of my head, I would say CND Cuticle Eraser and CND Solar Oil - I sell these to almost everyone!

As for a gift bag, I think that's a great idea! Maybe a business card, aftercare sheet, and a tiny bottle of Solar Oil.

Take pics of products and put a booklet together with the prices & description and hand them one before you start the treatment, i made one and binded it for on my desk, they can flick through it, see whats what and buy some lol

Good Idea, I am mobile and when I have a new client I always give a 1/8oz bottle of solar oil with my pricelist (which has aftercare advice printed on the back) and a business card in a nice little gift bag. They love it and always ask if I retail and at the moment I only retail Polishes but I am looking at a few products to sell. I think I will pinch your idea of a little brochure if you don't mind as I think it will go down well. I think if you are putting it in with a free gift and other info then it won't seem pushy. hth x

I took along a small case with supplies of things that I got asked for ie nvremover (non-acetone), cuticle oil, files and buffers, non fluffy nail wipes, that sort of thing . . . then after showing them initially what I carried (making the point that it saves them having to go out for things and is professional quality anyway therefore better than you'd find in Superdrug etc) I would nod at the case at the end of the treatment and just say "anything you need or . . . ?" and quite often they would say something like "well what have you got" or "anything new, is there?" thus producing an opportunity for a good ferret round. Throw in a few other bits and see what happens!

Nice hand creams and so on sell well too, specially fruity ones. Nail varnish itself didn't work for me. Lots of outlay to allow for a good choice, but not much was bought and I think overall I lost money on it.

Good luck, it's not so easy to sell when you're mobile but it can be done! xx

Can i ask what sort of gift bag you put these bits in hun? x

Oh I'd like to know what gift bag too.

I have to say I don't retail, I do tell people about the items, but have never had anyone take me up on getting anything, and at the moment I don't have enough money to outlay. I offer only spray tanning and Bio Sculpture nails at the moment. I will maybe think about offering retail when I get my L&P up and running which will hopefully be during the summer, but until then I'm not too bothered. I do know that with each new client I will give a small Solar Oil, as I think that is a great idea and have been given that when I used to get my nails done, and I like the idea of putting it in a gift bag along with a price list and bus card. I'd probably add in a loyalty card and/or a refer a friend to help promote me also.

I retail the same products I use during the services (lotion, cuticle oil, polishes, foot files, aftercare, etc..). This way you can talk about them during the service as you use them. Tell the benefits, etc... Tell them what you use for your hands and why, etc.. Ask them what they would like to fix about their skin or nails and then you'll know what to recommend at the end. Then at the end I have them in my suitcase or a basket to showcase and allow the client to have a minute to look through and ask questions if they wish. Bringing it up during the service makes you seem less pushy to sell at the end because you are letting them make the decision whether they liked what you used or not. Generally they will want to continue to use what worked. Know what I mean? I find making them look nice and presentable in a basket works best. I also carry brochures of the OPI polish colours, etc.. so if I don't have a specific on hand I tell them I can order it for them and deliver at their next appointment with me.

thanks everyone for replying you have helped make up my mind i think i am going to try the wee brochure idea and see howit goes i can always change it later if its useless and i am not desperate to retail it was just an added extra! if you try it before me sknight let me know how you get on with it :green:

Good point but just to mention the way I do it.
I have a large selection of colours in my own kit and only order them in for the client when she requests it, therefor saving me £'s in unused bottles:). It's the best way for me and is working well. x

when i was mobile, i used to sell oil, as most of us do, but then i started to do little "take care of me" bags, this consisted of a small size oil, a buffer (you know how clients love to play and buff their nails to a high shine all the time) and a file (to file the free edge, if they wanted to) instructions, after care sheet and a price list. they went very well.

I only do spray tanning mobile but I do retail moisturiser in sachets and bigger bottles, exfoliator in sachets and bigger bottles, top up tan in a can, glitter shimmer spray and body buff puff things for the shower :green: carry them all around in my sienna hessian bag and ask them at the end of the tan if they are ok for moisturiser etc?? have sold quite a few! I usually give a printed out price list of the retail items when I do the first tan along with the aftercare leaflet etc..

With regards to the gift bags i have used these at a couple of events and i purchased paper ones from ebay
:idea:just a tip for anyone who is doing them another good thing to include would be a magnet or keyring magnets can be ordered and keyrings are easy to make yourself but they are both things that people look at i always look at peoples keyrings and friends and family are likely to see a magnet on the fridge - both get people talking about you
