Hi everyone,

Can you tell me if and when do you start to get your timing down? DO you think it would only Realistically happen if you were either working in a salon or mobile but full time? I ask this as no matter how much I practice I can't get my full sets under 2 hours or my re-Balance and I am a bit fustrated that I do both in the same amount of time. I would like to get more clients but feel it may put them off when I tell them it will take2 hours I get very dishearted and feel I may lose clients because of this is there anything I could do to speed up?

Hiya i would say stop worring about your timings and just do the best job you can ! yes you can go and get them done in half the time but would they get the care and great job that you do ????
Also have you thought about using popits ?? they are fab full set in about 45 mins give them a try they are great xxxx

Hi,

You sound exactly the same as me when it comes to time and worries. I passed my acrylic course back in July and as i am not getting many clients it is stil taking me 2 hours min to complete and thats when im having a good day and oh my god dont get me started on infills!! it takes me on average 3 hours to do infills when it should only be taking me around an hour. I worry myself silly that it will put people off but i kind of thought that if im extra nice and get a girly chat going then hopefully they wont mind that extra time it is taking me - i suppose in a way that alot of women do have there nails done for that bit of girly social time that we all love, i no when i get mine done time seems to fly by as we always start gabbib on about somethin xx

Hi kimberley my advice would be to get a copy of gigi rouse nail class it really does help ! look at the section on rebalance you will cut your timings in no time :) give sweet squared a call its the best £15 spent xxx

I wouldn't worry about timing. Your timing will come down naturally as you get busier.

My timing is dire. I can take forever if I have forever and sometimes I am mortified at how long I can take - I talk too much lol! However, on busy days I really surprise myself and can do a full set in ¾hr if I have to. The busier you get, the quicker you'll get too.:)

I'm exactly the same.. min 2 hours for a full set or a rebalance :(

I think it's right though to take as long as it takes to do a good set rather than an hour and a half to do a poor set.

Any hints or tips to speed processes up though would be good :)

I wouldn't worry too much about it if you are producing nice sets in 2 hrs, its not that long really and the client is there for some me time and to relax,
tips to be quicker,
talk to the hand while smiling but do not stop and look at the client unless necessary,
use well less tips that way you save time by not having to blend
master your application so you have far less filing to do, hth

I agree, this book is fab!!

Hi there

I agree, this book is fab!!

i know its sooooo good every nail tech should have one :)
i spend years chasing the line when doing a rebalance now it only takes minutes :) i also think if yoy go through the book and practice it can cut you times massively  oh and i have been at this for five years so not even a newbie

Thanks everyone I will see if I can get that book. I know it shouldn't be an issue but a client did mention the time again and it does makes me worry a bit.

i think you should have a go with popits they really are good and so fast ! even if its just for the odd client ! good luck xx

Im thinking of getting some and getting into practice before the xmas rush.., I dont wanna be takin 2hrs a set for one offs when I can hopefully earn double in that time using poppits.

I have only just started getting my times down. The more sets I do the faster I am without sacrificing quality. Don't let your times put you off getting more clients because they are what you need to get the practice to be able to get faster.
I use geeg's book and I have worked through each section and didn't move on till I felt comfortable. From this I have learnt product control and shaping with the brush which means virtually no filing. I have also developed an efficient filing technique.
Don't stress too much when you are with a client. This will cause you to mess up and take longer.
I have had clients husbands phone them in the past yelling at them for taking so long. But when they left they had decent looking nails and were happy with them
I dissected my routine to look for time saving and these are some of what I came up with
Like has been previously said
Don't lift your head to look at client too often
Don't pick up dusting brush too often when filing
I ask my clients to place both hands on my table right from the start because I got sick of them texting on their phones and even though I am working on one hand at a time, they hesitate to pick up the phone when you have asked them to place both hands
Also it saves waiting time for them to swap hands over
Above all, don't stress, don't watch the clock, it wont happen overnight but it will happen. For ages I thought I would never be any faster but lately I have done so many sets and my time is coming down with the experience.

Hiya,
I am in the exact same boat here! I am getting more and more busier but still cannot manage to get my times down. If there is an easy, straight-forward refill I am now starting to do in 1hr and 1/2 but if they are rough with their nails etc and is more work involved I take 2 hours almost every time! I feel bad too, my clients love their nails but I feel bad that I am taking up all their time! My usual routine (as taught to me by a master here in W.A. who does amazing nails) for a rebalance is:
Push back/remove cuticles, prep/file, primer, fill in zone 3 (pink), E-file my smileline out, fill in white (smileline), shape/buff to finish, 2 gel coats- one for strength, one for extreme shine, rub in cuticle oil, finish off with a short hand massage with moisturiser..

Do you think I am doing too much? I would like to think I can eventually get my times down but because I take longer using the e-file to take out smilelines etc I worry that all these steps are why I take so long...

Any advice is so welcome! Thanks xxx

Corrine I tried e-filing smile lines to see how easy it was before I learned to freehand them and it took me way longer. I would have to say that re-doing smile lines is fairly quick for me now just doing them freehand.

Hey Karen,

Yeah I can do them really nice freehand too but i prefer to fill the pink (zone 3) then put in the white after so it is really crisp and bright white.. All my clients love me doing it like this now because it looks so clean & bright white.. I dont know that I could get out of this habit if i wanted to because they all love it so much... :(
Any other hints for times down? I forgot to add one thing before also, I am a HUGE perfectionist and never think anything i do is perfect enough so maybe i take too long looking and contemplating and I prob need to just leave it and know its great anyway but I am so hard on myself i find it so hard to do that...

Why don't you try the reverse method which is applying the pink first then white.

Hi babe,

I was just readinf thru the posts until i got to your step by step for a white tip fill... i used to file and then do z3 first too... then i went to have my nails done and she does it ( and so do I) like this

Treat Cuticle area.. ( wait for products to work).. i get my clients to the table 10 mins before they are due to pop on the cut remover...I have a double desk.

efile the smile line and then take out the apex area gently on all ten nails.

hand file (with Geeg's book at my side) zone 2 and 3

prep natural nails..

fill in Zone 1 with white powder...
fill in zones 2 and 3 with pink / clear

finish nail and cap with clear gel..

works well and is only 1/2 the amount of filing...

that is just what i do but it is a suggestion you might want to give a whirl..

also i used to take almost 2 hrs to do a full set.. now it takes 1hr 10min.

infills with no lifting under an hr..
It will happen... if you are taking more timing in your infills due to lifting get a copy of Geegs book and that will help you too.....
I spend more time on prep and sculpting to avoid lifting and filing at their next infill... works

X Mel

Hiya Mel,

Thanks for the reply.. I used to do nails that way before but found that the pink did slightly still go over the white and my clients really do love the other way I do it. I will get that book, if you say its that good, do you know where to get it in Australia?

I spend so much time on perfecting my prep on my clients. Some have zero lifting and some are just those clients that always get it no matter what.. Maybe they are dredded 'pickers'..

Anyway, thanks all for replies to my message, hopefully can get some more tips on getting faster..

xxx Corrine xxx
