hi all,
ok im having real trouble with my smile lines been doing nails since mar 08 and im getting good although the smile lines are impossible for me to get right on LP so ive decided to invest in an airbrush any ideas where i can get one??
thanks louise xxxxxxx:)

Have you read the tutorial on `million dollar smile lines. ? Its quite helpful. Keep practising, one day it will just `click`!

thanks debi i will check it out but its got to the point where i wont do them anymore as i do such a bad job thats why i want to spray them xx

How come you want to use an air gun to create french white, a decent new gun costs a couple hundred inc vat at least then theres all your paints, gun cleaner, the hassle of cleaning it etc. Why not buy some white tips, much more economical and a more professional way when using L+P. Not even sure if you would paint smile lines and then use L+P, more experienced techs might know. Its certainly not the way I would do it.

Even if you want to create traditional french polish still a hefty outlay using a air gun. If you are wanting to offer air brush art maybe but I'd check it out on here as there doesnt appear to be a lot of demand for it, heck most clients won't let you do a few flicks and a dots.

hope that helps

yeah i didnt really consider the costs my friend has them done in town and has lp then they spray the white tips on it just sounded easier to me it looks great too thanks for the advice anne xxx

Glad to help, all for saving a few pennies :)

Not really sure though why your friend has the white painted on after L+P cos it might chip, maybe someone else could shed some light on this.

However, I wouldnt give up on doing your own smile lines using L+P practice on tips, but on clients use white tips until you feel more confident. In the long run it does set you apart from your competitors as you can give the illusion of longer nails, offer sculptured nails, do custom nails etc.

absolutely.....
they never chip shes had them done for years that way they put uv gel over the top after thanks for the help advice annie xx

Of course didnt think of a UV top coat.

Here's a great link that might help with your smile lines couple other good videos as well.

Glad to help :)

Hi :)

I used to work at a nail kiosk, and the way we did it was to use white tips, and then apply white acrylic over the tip (using the tip line as a guide for the smile line). Maybe you could try this for a while until you are more confident, because it makes it so easy to get the perfect line. You just place your bead in the centre and press up into each side, really simple, yet you get the awesome finish of the pink and white acrylic (I think white tips under clear acrylic looks cheap)

Hope this helps :)

Get yourself a cheap box of clear tips from ebay, ones you wouldn't dream of putting on a client. Get a permanent marker pen and put 3 dots on the underside. One where you want the base of your smile line to go, and one on each side where you want the ears to go.

Now put your bead on, a bit lower than the middle dot. Push your product up to one of the ears, then the other, almost in a v shape. Don't touch the product in the middle as you do this. Now smooth the product over the tip. Dry off your brush and using little pushes, tuck the white back down till you get a wonderful smile line. Keep going, putting the tips down in order and I guarantee you will see a huge difference betwwen your first attempts and your last attemps.

I'm going to have a go at this... that's my Sunday afternoon sorted. Thanks Marion xx

i think you have been given some fab advice . I really do not like airbrushed french personally. i know i shouldnt but in my head i cant help but associate airbrushed french with my local NSS. Everyone that i have seen have it it looks horrible discoloured and chipped after just a few days. I know there are some people who use airbrush and can probably use it well and probably have some fab results with it but its the only time i have come across it and it just sticks in my head.
My smiles are really not great but hopefully with practice i will get there eventually.

Thanks marion for sharing your great tip you learned at the event for creating smile lines, I'll be practising like that from now on.

Totally agree that white tips under L+P does'nt look as beautiful but it is an option until you feel more confidant.

thanks to all of you for your help and advice i will practice a little more and see how i get on i was going to do a conversion course with cnd so willl hopefully get some good advice from her hoping to do it in the new year.... once again thanks to all who have taken the time to help me its very much appreciated xxx

It worked a treat for me too Marion. I've ordered a box of cheap tips from *bay to do some more on but the smile lines I were getting were so much better. Only problem is, how do I do this in reality when a tip is on someones nail.. my imagination is rubbish

Hiya Gilly have you got a nail trainer? if not I would invest in one I have two am greedy lol but I wouldn't be without Florence great for practise and two hands helps as I can do more practise it's like I have a real person in front of me mad I know I haven't started talking to her yet tho lol :)

Hi Gilly,
I read a thread on here recently and somone suggested blue tack,I have tried it and it works fab,all you do is roll the blue tack to shape of a finger and slide in your tip it works a treat and just replace the tip when your done:)

Hi... sorry, I meant without drawing the dots onto the tip before I apply it to clients nail.

I have a nail trainer, fingers and fasten my tips to blue tac etc., but have had great success with marions suggestion of drawing three dots on the reverse of the tip to practice smile lines.. just don't know how I'll go on doing it without the dots!

Thanks geeks x
