Hi All

You may have seen my post on Friday about the tan I did on a lady when she was saying the next day that her tan had faded when she had got in the shower and although her torso had gone brown her legs looked no darker and she wasnt happy! I sprayed her with LA Tan 12%.

Yesterday I sprayed a friend of mine with LA 10% and she has said the same thing this morning, although she said her face was brown. She said that she loved the colour when she got in the shower but when she got out it had really faded and the tan lines from her knickers had really faded! She got a freebie as she wants one for her wedding so I am not worrying about the payment side on this one, but I can't believe the same has happened again! I def gave her the correct aftercare instructions, I now have the flyers and she had nothing on moisture wise, plus she used radox to shower with!

Had anyone shed any light again? It's really getting me down and I feel like putting my stuff on eBay and quitting :(.

Do you think it's the lotion, my technique or just not giving right advice? I'm contemplating taking my training again in case it is!

I'd be greatful for any of your fab help as always, It's really gettting me down :(

Thanks
N

is she on any medication at all?? This can affect tans. Antibiotics and other meds sometimes stop tan from developing correctly.

And although she told you she had no moisturizer on are you sure she didnt? How long after the tan did she wash? Also did she exercise at all after having tan? sweating will affect the tan too.

Tell me exactly what precare and aftercare advise you gave?

Lisa

if your putting the tan on too heavy ie double coating then you do get a really dark colour as they leave the salon the colour you see is bronzer/makeup the DHA is a clear solution that develops on the skin over 6 hours under the bronzer next day when the guide colour is showered off it leaves the client feeling dissapointed and not as dark but they are still tanned...... I have read somewhere that LA tan has a double bronzer??? so maybe thats the problem, when its showered off because the guide colour was so dark, they think they are not tanned?
If it is that your not overspraying why not try a few samples from other companies and see if your happier with the results hth

Thanks Steve, the colour does look dark when sprayed on and yes LA Tan is double dipped so I guess that the colour guide is going on darker getting the client excited by the colour and then dissapointed when it washes off and leaves the tan underneath a lot lighter! I do worry that I am not covering everything so I do tend to give a real good cover all over! I have some LA Gold which is only single dipped so I may use that for the tans that I have this week and see how I get on with the other samples! Shall I get a nouvatan sample via your website???:D

Thanks Lisa, no medication and knowing my friend def no exercise after lol!!! She said she's not put the mosituriser on so I can only take her word for it!! My aftercare that I give out is:

Do not shower or bathe for at least 8 hours while your tan develops.
Avoid swimming in chlorinated water.

After showering pat dry, do not rub.
Showering or bathing for long periods of time will cause the tan to fade much quicker, do not have shower temperature too high!
Moisturise regularly to keep the skin soft and help prolong the tan
Avoid touching the tan as it develops
Avoid any activities such as exercise that cause you to perspire whilst the tan develops
Gentle exfoliation will help the tan fade more evenly.

I think that I have everything covered?

I'm guessing that I am prob overspraying the torso and not enough on the arms and legs and the double dipped bronzer is not helping as my customers are obviously thinking what a great tan!

How long were they in the shower for? Tans fade quicker the longer your in water. They may of washed more in one area than another.

Maybe its your application technique. alot of people pull away when they go down the leg too early you need to keep the same distance over the whole body only pull out when you get to hands and feet. tan always going to be lighter after shower.

Yes it could be but as it has happened a few times i think that's prob not the problem so much!

It could be my technique on the legs I do pull away near the feet but maybe I am pulling away too early.

How old is your solution-after about six months it can go off.

I've only been going 2 months so its no older than that!

I am new to spray tanning myself, but I was thinking, if they are showering the next morning and maybe shaving their legs would this maybe be affecting the outcome on the legs to be different to the rest of the body??

Nat-Nat, have you actually seen your client and/or your friend's tans in person? It's sometimes much easier to work things out when you've got the client/friend face to face.

As has been said, it could simply be a case of your client/friend feeling disappointed with the final result after showering off a really dark colour guide, but you'll only know this when you "inspect" them.

I'm not saying it's always the client's fault, but for example I did a spray tan party last Thursday night. When I was doing the consultation with one of the girls she confirmed she had no deodorant, make-up or moisturiser on, yet when I sprayed her, her armpits turned bright green and so did her neck and wrists - only then did she reveal she'd put deodorant and perfum on that morning ("but only a spray of Charlie, honest"!!!!). I can't help myself when this happens - then I wonder what else has or hasn't the client done that she hasn't revealed.

Try not to worry too much though, but what I'd suggest is that you spray another couple of friends/family this week with your solutions, and really monitor the outcome. That could really tell you if it's a solution, client or technique problem and put your mind at rest.

Good luck
xx

Who applied the barrier cream?I have gone back to doing this on my clients myself because I found when I got the client to do it they would sometimes rub down the knee onto their legs creating a barrier.

I dont think long showers would make the legs lighter than the rest of the body,it's usually around the chest and shoulders, where the water takes full impact, that they go patchy.

Maybe it is your technique hun, practice on a couple of friends before doing anymore clients.Make sure you dont leave any areas unsprayed.

Try not to worry too much.I was exactly the same when I first did my training, over the hands.I kept overspraying them and they looked hideous.I got there in the end and so will you.Just keep at it,get any of your family and friends and just focus on the problem areas you have.Have a look on youtube also. There are some spray routine videos on there. You may find some helpful.HTH

Hi hun

Easier said than done, however, its early days yet and you are still on that learning curve.

Don't let it get you down too much. Learn from all of the issues, put them behind you and start again.

I've only just learn to spray tan as well and I am getting issues but I am surely learning from them. I haven't started to charge as I still need more practise and to learn from all of my mistakes.

Hang in there, dont be disheartened. It will fall into place if you work hard it it.XXX

I will deffo say it's that la tan is double dipped, I love every aspect of la tan only that I find once showerd it goes alot lighter. I always use a 12 on clients as i know the tan will go to about a 10 once showerd. La tan has alot of guide colour. I find I use there solutions for my special offers as they are good value. Never had a complaint with la tan il give em that lovely and brown not a hint of orange, just not brown enough once showerd, it fades good aswell, but only lasts about 3 days xx

I just dont want to risk loosing these customers if they are dissapointed by the colour of their tans after they have showered. I am inclined to keep using the Disco though as I have some customers who really like it. I have some LA gold that I havent used yet so i am going to try that this week, its only single dipped so it maybe a bit better. I have asked for some samples of others so I will see how I get on with them before I make any rash decisions :D

Theres a girl near me who Uses LA tan some of my customers tried her out as she was £2.50 cheaper and she does home visits in the evenings when i am working !!!!
they said it all washed off next day as well they prefered my tans, and i have got them back now :D

Well none of my clients or my families tans have all washed off the next day and I think if that were the case then none of us who use LA TAN would have any spray tanning clients and the company would've gone bust long ago.

You know what they say, a bad workman always blames his tools....

Nat,I seriously think you need to call LA TAN and talk these issues through with them.I find them really helpful and I am sure they can give you some more training.HTH

PS the Gold isn't that dark tbh,it's more of a golden bronze.Just to let you know.

I have been practising with LA Tan recently and all of the tans that I have done so far people really like them. They also said that it lasted well.

I agree with Babs, to call LA Tanning and get some good advice.

You invested in the product, so believe in it and yourself. Its kind of early days for you to be sampling other products without giving what you bought the benefit of the doubt.

How on earth a tan can simply wash off I don't know - even to me that's baffling....
