Airbrush Cleaning and Care

Airbrush Cleaner

All airbrush tanning solutions, even those that are aloe vera based or alcohol based are predominantly water. So, a heavy cleaner is not necessary to keep your airbrush / HVLP gun in a clean, operable state. You should keep a 2 ounce solution bottle containing cleaner to flush and clean your airbrush after prolonged periods of disuse during the day and at the end of the day. Many companies offer an airbrush cleaning solution for sale. But a perfectly acceptable cleaner may be devised from cheap, commonly available ingredients such as windowlene and water. Here is a simple formula for you to try. Just mix it up and store in a commonly available container such as a large empty soda bottle.
1 Part Windowlene
9 Parts Water

Nice money saving tip. Some companies charge a fortune for cleaner.

will this work with all machines?

absolutly fab! said:

Yes it should do.

no health and safety implacations?
chemical wise - left over window cleaner in the system etc???

I use the window cleaner mixture to clean out my mini mist but then flush through with just water to make sure there is no windolene left in it.

Yes I do the same thing. I was spending money on products that weren't really needed.

I just use warm water for spray tan solutions...does the trick....one tip I would pass on when using an HPLV is remeber to clean you filter or you will be spraying your clients with bits of stuff that are contained in said unclean filter...and it will clog up your gun !

is this the thick old fashioned white windowlene, or the new clear spray on glasscleaner ?

This is what I was told to do when I trained with Tantrick, they said there is no need to use anything but water to clean it, so I dont use anything else.

Some solutions only require water for cleaning equipment, some (the ones containing alcohol I think, Mike?) however require somethng a bit stronger. Equipment cleaner and window/glass cleaner are exactly the same thing, the only difference is the price. No prizes for guessing which costs more.

The screen wash which you can find at your local filling station is what some companies will sell you in smaller bottles to clean their airbrushes! It generally costs £4.99 for a 5 litre bottle - if bought in smaller bottles from another "spray tanning provider" it will cost you about £6.95 for 500ml!

We do suggest your guns are cleaned with warm water and do not supply any "specialised cleaning fluid".
