If you could change one thing, just one, about the beauty/nails/holistic industry, what would it be?

peoples ignorance when it comes to holistic therapies.

one day courses

i would like to abolish them especially in the nail and beauty industry where imo you need longer than 1 day to be able to qualify and get insured.

yes there are some areas that a day would be adequate but there are areas that i feel arnt. jmo

If I could change one thing it would be peoples perception about nails being nails as in them being the same wherever you have them done and that acrylic nails damage your natural nails - sorry that may be 2 things LOL.

The fact that nails are only done by people with no brains:(

One day courses - poorly qualified therapists give us all a bad name & I've lost count of the number of people I've had to win round after they've had a bad experience elsewhere at the hands of the underqualified.

People who think doing nails is easy and anyone can do it ermmmmmmm :irked: Oh yeah and quick courses that promise the world, Cost the earth and aint worth the paper the certificate is printed on.

Hiyah

DIY nail kits grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!! stick on nails leave US professionals to apply salon nail enhancements correctly.. infact anything which is available at salons whether its tanning or hair keep in the salon and not available for the joe public to purchase and cock up using it IMO!

For the nail industry to be given the respect it deserves.

I would change the fact that Sallys sell professional nail products to just anyone who walks into their shop

Hmmm well lot's of things I suppose,
But the main thing that is in my head is...
My own, and other technicians who lack in confidence, to have mUCH MUCH more !

If we were all more confident....mabey we ourselves could change the perception of the nail industry,
Some of us have so much knowledge, and an ever growing talent for what we do...yet we get stuck in a rut, due to our confidence..
If I for one had more....I could gain many clients...orginise many local events, speak to the media....push push push..
This would lead to more income for me, which would lead to more training for me...I would continue to grow..

Now If all nail technicians were the same, together we could maybe change things x

That training and insurance was a requisite. Non negotiable

I'm greedy i would change 2 things
1 Ban MMA
2 Compulsory Licence for all therapists

I would like therapists to notice the happy returning customers, positive feedback and the value they add in peoples lives more than the voice in their head and the very occasional customer you'll never please who puts you down.

Is it the course that is at fault or the person who assumes that having had about 6 hours of tuition and a certificate that they can inflict themselves on customers without further practise ?

Like the voice in you that says 'I'm not good enough yet' after years of evidence to the contrary, the voice that says 'I'm qualified' after 1 day of effort is just as useful.

Certain skills take a few hours to learn, so a one day course is fine. Maybe you need some sort of follow up based around case studies would work and the certificate comes after that.

I am so with you on this one Fiona :irked:
If I got a pound for every time someone said " acrylic is so bad it damages your nails" I would be able to give up work and live a life of luxury:lol::lol:

Please quote me if i,m wrong as i,m not sure if a law has been passed?? I love all things to do with beauty, and not into camping outside test laboratories!, but ask yourself this thought provoking question: if you knew a product you were using in the salon had been tested on animals, would you think twice before using it? with science evolving so much, surely there must be another method to service the demands of a booming industry :!:

with you on that one urbanG .. also the short courses and DIY kits and MMA that's 4 things.

I've found that if you word it like this when someone ask what you do for a living instead of saying beauty therapist say skin and body therapist and you have a deep interest in knowing and finding out what is going on in peoples skin\nails\body and the effects the environment have on them ...it makes you sound more professional and brains of Britain...honestly

I would change the publics perception of the industry and that we are all dumb young blondes!!! (I'm neither young or blonde!!)
