for anyone that hadn't noticed me going on about colon massage in the past, I am really interested in the subject after attending the course last month.

By doing the treatment on clients, it has raised lots of interesting questions which I don't feel experienced enough at the moment, to give them a full answer.

So, if anyone here has any interesting experiences of how colon massage would benefit certain people, ie people with cealiac, crohns, IBS, etc, etc, I would love to start a discussion about it.

If anyone on here does colonic irrigation, I would love to hear their take on it too.

If their is any good text books or sites that you could suggest?

Well you know my experience Ann...

I normally only go to the loo once a week, some times once every 2weeks.

But after my massage i have been every day, some times twice a day!!

Yep.... i am still going!!

Its been a few weeks now as well!

xx

I will watch this thread with interest, but haven't really got anything to add myself as I don't know much about either. :)

What's been the take up since you started doing them?

I haven't even thought about it since I did the training.

But the treatment was very effective.

I went as soon as I got home.
xx

Its been canny, done a few, did a client for the 2nd time yesterday....she is hooked.
Got one booked in on Saturday too.

Have done about 8 since the course, but my interest is definetly piqued by it all, think its fascinating.

i would love to have a colon massage

i have blocked and furred pipes (anyone in the know - will know what im talking about)

im considering colonic irrigation but am a chicken lol

Can one enquire as to what is actually involved in a colon massage ?? I can't imagine!

I did have colonic irrigation once which is nowhere near as bad as anyone thinks it is going to be. Didn't have any noticable effect on me though. JUST DID IT BECAUSE SOMEONE RECOMMENDED IT FOR A GOOD CLEAR OUT BUT THERE WAS NOTHING. Whoops sorry for shouting. I didn't feel any different at all.

Wow good to see such a diverse range of topics going on.

Well I know absolutley nothing about the tecno side of this treatment however I have been at the receiving end of it a number of years ago :o

Wow..felt like a new man

I'm intrigued as well - my friend has recently had a colonic irrigation and said she felt absolutely fantastic after it (she's had 2 so far) and has more booked! I will ask her some questions when she gets back off her hols and I get off mine!

I know a little about Colonic irrigation treatment it exercises and tones the bowel aiding the evacuation of waste both during and after treatment. it reduces the toxic load on the body. good if you have IBS(irritable bowel syndrome)and those with diverticulosis,it's also a good improvement on the skin(getting these nasty trapped toxins out of your system) a good treatment...i haven't had it done ..i would give it a try if ihad a serious problem but just don't like the idea of a pipe up my botty.

Colon massage is done during a body massage, a few of my clients enjoy it and i do it on myself. The abdomen is massaged for about 5 mins it's also a great way to tone the muscles in your colon area. If you do it regularly it helps strengthen your colon walls and help to loosen all that build up that causes constipation. also great if your on the loo and you are trying to relieve constipation. Regular massaging of your abdomen can be a great benefit to your colon and your surrounding organs,it does help IBS sufferers.

a colon massage is a deep but comfortable massage to the colon. By pressing down deeply you can feel the blockages in the colon and as the massage continues, you notice that these blockages have moved.

the good thing about the treatment is that its not uncomfortable (although some clients may experience moments of discomfort), it helps to remind the colon how to work better, has an accumlative effect, and doesn't involve TUBES, BUMS, WATER.

to aid detoxification, a mask of some description (mud, algae) is applied to the tummy.

What you notice after the treatment is that your bowel movement is different, the texture and colour and amount is different to your usual.

what I say to clients is, your colon is like a A road, sometimes you get traffic queues, what the massage does, is clear the road.

I love doing the treatment, and want to go into further, want to learn more techniques and more about specific problems, IBS, diverticulis, etc.

A client told me that she had colonic irrigation, and that she told the person doing the treatment that she had a bowel movement every day. She was told after the treatment that she was infact constipated, and that although she went everyday, she wasn't going properly, so there was a build up. That got me thinking too.

I would love to do some research on this, and as I am just starting out with it, am hoping to do some research on a number of treatments to chart its effectiveness.

I like this thread as it is very interesting and needs to be explored.

Hippy-chic if you don't mind, i to would like to share veiws and research with you on how colon massage benefits clients with problem syptoms involving their digestive system as that is what the colon and rectum are part of.As i am fully qualifed in Holistic and Aromatherapy massage, a few of my clients find great relief in their abdomen being massaged for 5 minutes, i know what you mean by "feeling the blockages" i've come across this in college a few times and with one of my clients who said that she noticed a difference in her "movements". it's the interest in the detoxification mask\mud\clays that are applied as i want to pursue training like this at some point.

The colon is approximately 5 feet long and divided into five segments. The rectum is the last anatomic segment before the anus. The ascending and descending colon are supported by the peritoneal folds which is the membrane that lines the abdominal cavity. The right colon consists of the cecum, ascending colon and the hepatic flexure(colic) which is the right angle bend in the colon on the right side of the body near the liver and also joins onto the part of the ascending colon and the transverse colon and the right half of the transverse colon. The left colon consists of the left half of the transverse colon, splenic flexure(spleen), descending colon, and sigmoid(the contracting bit above the rectum)

The interesting thing about the colon is that a lot of our health problems stem from the digestive system into the colon by what we eat and drink.Common problems often include the dreaded hemorrhoids, anal fisures(known as a little tearing in the anus due to being constipated), and abnormal things like "furring"of the rectum and bowel also your typical IBS ,stress is also the culprit for causing IBS.crohn's disease is a type of IBS but causes problems with the digestive tract . While some colon problems, such as hemorrhoids for example are common and easily treated, others, such as polyps, can be more serious and sometimes cancerous if not treated.Diverticulitis is caused when the small sacs in the colon become infected hence they swell up causing blockages my friend has this disease and ended up haing to be operated on as no ammount of medication was solving it.

Massaging the colon i agree has an accumlative and relieving effect, i do it myself twice per week as i used to suffer terrible with IBS caused by stress (i'm a stresshead),when i started training my tutor performed a deep abdominal massage on me ,it hurt ! but after a few times it started getting less troublesome it works for me.

Sorry if i've rambled on

no Janey,
you have not rambled on at all, this is exactly what I was looking for, but I do worry that you answered this at 5.30am!!! LOL!

Yes, would love to share research on this, and I am interested in the different drawing masks used.
In my training we used a Russian mud, which is supposed to be 12 times richer in minerals than dead sea mud. As I have a supply of Edom dead sea mud, I am using that at the moment. I have also trained in algae body wraps and use a algae gel, and am tempted to use that instead as it has similar properties but not as messy.

Elemis do a fennel mask and Gerards do an algae mask.

We also were encouraged to use essential oils in the massage for their diuretic and tonic effect, eg juniper, lemon, grapefruit, etc.

so..... you are massaging faeces (poo) down the colon ?
sounds odd, I too have had a colinic, it was bought for me as a Birthday gift with the message "this is because you are so full of shyte".

It took me 4 months to get up the courage.......

It was an interesting experience to say the least, she measured the water that went in (gravity fed purified rainwater), and the water that came out (much less came out), she said "you have a thirsty colon". It was very clinical, professional and matter of fact.

I was so uncomfortable leaving, as I thought I may explode in the back of the taxi. Afterward I have never clenched or been afraid to fart so much in my life. But all was well ...... in the end :)

LOL! Carl! I have a wonderful picture in my mind of you pulling faces in the back of the cab!

Yes, you are massaging the colon and can feel the waste matter in the colon itself, so I suppose you could say I massage **** rather than my massage is ****!

What I would say is, that the sensations you feel whilst having your colon massaged is quite strange, not unpleasant, but you are conscious of all these different sensations all over your body.

You can hold a lot of emotion in your stomach area too, I have a nervous stomach when I am stressed. If I get some bad news or someone is horrible to me, or I have done something wrong - I go straight to the loo.

LOL nailzoo i can just imagine the scene

massaging the abdomen is quite strange, but not unpleasant and you can feel the waste matter in the colon being moved along . i did a research question to my GP a while back when i was in-training and said i had never seen her clinic so full ..she replied that 90% of cases where people suffer from stress, anxiety and depression is linked to what they eat and their digestive system and problems with the colon\rectum.
