Hiya, I desparatley need advice on waxing! i did my first client today and did half a leg and an eyebrow wax, i used a roller wax and it took me 1 hour for both the wax went ok apart from one leg on the back the wax seemed to go all clumpy although the wax seemed at the correct temperature so unsure why, took me ages to remove with after wax, so bit of a nightmare realy! but i was realy nervous as it was my first client ever and i havent done any waxing since i trained in level 2 last year! i feel realy dissapointed with my self because i think i should of been quicker with a roller wax, and spoken a bit more but i was busy concerating:cry:she seemed realy nice and i asked her if they were ok and she said yes but she hasnt rebooked as she said previously her normal therapist normally does them but shes got personal problems at the moment i felt such a ****! help xx

Don't stress too much over it. We were all slow to start with and you will get quicker with practice.
When i trained i practiced on family and friends-they were all hairless for weeks-lol.
Have you got someone you can practice on.
It does get better and at least you've got the first one out of the way.
You'll be fine

Ok, I'm not going to patronise you. You know you need to get better and faster.....and the only way to do that is to WAX WAX WAX!

Start timing yourself and wax everyone who will allow you to do so. With each wax that you do, aim to take 5 mins off.

The wax not coming off with roller wax sounds odd as it's usually really thin. Was it hot enough? xx

Did you cover both the legs first and then maybe was so slow that the second leg had got cold and set on the leg.
Try doing smaller sections first to really get the hang of it.Do not overlap. It is so thin sometimes you think there is not enough on there but the thinner the better.
Practice rolling down your own legs if you have no one to practice on even when you have no hair.
With a roller it needs to flow really freely so needs to be hot but bearable hold the tube up to get the air out out of the head you will see two or 3 bubbles rise, you can get it flowing by running on a strip if you want and keep your heads really clean no old wax its unhygienic and it stops rollers from running smoothly.

Hi Hun,
I use a roller wax, but I do find it can cool down if not put back into the heater. I tend to use 2 cartridges, so if one has cooled a little, I use the other one....So I have 2 heads to clean, but it does keep the speed up.
Keep practicing on your self, you could do your own legs every other day, I know there won't be many hairs to come out, but it will help with your application.
I am sure you must have friends that would like a few free waxes, tell them the first 3 are free, as you need to practice, then you can offer them at mates rates.
Good luck and WAX WAX WAX.......it is the only way.
Oooooh I just love the sound of wax being taken off, I love to see how many hairs come out......Sad I know !!!!
Lotsa luv x  x

Thankyou all for your advice i feel much better already:hug: what made me feel so bad was that she never realy had much hair in the first place! but i still applied all over the legs also the legs didnt feel very smooth afterwards though they were hairless, a little spikey? i did one leg and remove started from ankle to remove ( though i did read a thread about removing from the top of the leg below knee) is this easier? never tryed that way, then knee and foot and then moved on to the other leg and did the same and then did the backs which is where the wax set on one leg:eek: Looks like i need to practice practice, would you let clients know your newly qualified or just not do any untill your faster and better? the trouble is i dont want to lose clients before ive started and i want to feel confident ive given a good treatment.

Never tell you client anything like that. Just bluff it.

Waxing from the ankle upwards is correct. To wax from below the knee downwards is pointless and you'll be sticking to the wax below. Carry on doing what you're doing.....just do it faster.

Thankyou you are a waxing queen ive just been looking at your website i wish i had you nearer to me :hug: xx

I have not been waxing for that long, I trained with Kim. At first I basically waxed everyone in sight within my family, even my hubby, bless him. I have found the more I am waxing the quicker I am getting for sure, I can hear Kim's voice in my head saying,"Come on quicker" I haven't advertised my waxing yet but more and more of my clients are wanting waxed and I am loving it.

Act confident and your clients will have confidence in you.

Was the hair long enough in the first place? It needs to be about the length of a grain of rice.
I've waxed my own legs before and they can feel stubbly(is that a word:eek:) straight after. Hairs grow at 3 different stages and depending on when in the cycle you wax then you can get that stubbly feeling as the new hairs growing through are too short to get out. You need to explain this to a client before you wax them especially with a first wax. :)

Hi Angelina, the hairs were not that long but she normally waxes every 4 weeks so id of thought they were long enough! and shes had about 3 -4 waxes before she came to me would her hair cycle be ok by then? i dont know xx

With new clients who haven't been waxed before i always suggest that they wax on day 1 day 15 and day 30. Then once a month for 6 months. If you go back to day 1,15 and 30 in the 7th month then you usually have the hair growing at one stage. You can actually 'train' the hair to grow together.
Non strip wax will get shorter hairs out as it has shrink wrapping qualities.
It's not cost effective to use non strip wax on legs though but if you have a patch of stubborn hair then i would use the non strip to just get small stubborn areas out.
Some clients seem to think that they will have their legs waxed and they will be ultra smooth for weeks, so you do need to explain to them about the hair growth cycle and that maybe they will have stubble the first time or so. That way they won't be disappointed and will understand the process.

Keep it simple and be realistic. Ask them to come back every four weeks. If they have very dark, coarse hair, get them to come back every 5 weeks. That extra weeks growth gets a much smoother finish and it will take you less time.

I would only get them to come back soon after their first wax for facial hair. xxx

Thanks to everyone that has replyed, and all your comments i will let you know how i get on the next time  much appreaciated  xx

Can you tell me how much you charge for mates rates. I always feel really awkward taking money of family and closed friends, but i'm just about to open up my own salon and will have to start charging them something. Do you think 10% 20% off something like that?

I don't give my friends a discount-i'm running a business not a charity!
I give my daughter free treatments but she does all my leaflet designs and graphic work.
Once you start giving discounts it's hard to stop and it's hard enough when you're starting a business.
My family never asked for a discount when i first started but happily volunteered as guinea pigs when i needed them so i do give them cheap spray tans
