Hello all and I hope your all well.
A few days ago I did a post about doing a set of weekender nails and asked for advise.
I followed the advise well and they looked really good. I blended well and they had no lumps and bumps. I finished with a nice French Manicure.
However, I saw my lady last night and asked how they did. She said not good. She said 3 pinged off as she picked her son up to put him in the car and the rest slowly followed over the weekend, leaving her finally with 2 that she picked off.
I did all my prep throughly and scrubfreshed loads etc. Can anyone help me out again please as I have been asked to do another set this Friday on a bride and I am beginning to get a little worried as I don't want her nails 'pinging' at the vital moment!

Firstly the client needs to remember that they are what they say( weekenders.)
it sounds like you did everything correctly. maybe you should apply a thin coat of
resin over the top for a bit more strength. i have done this in the past and it worked well for me. so maybe give that a go. x

I always put a thin coat of resin over weekend nails and emphasise to the clients that they have to be very careful otherwise they should get proper enhancements with more balance and strength.

I agree with what has already been said, they are just for the weekend, no longer. Maybe a very thin application of L&P? Maybe you couldve blended the tips too thinly?
As you say your prep was fine etc etc but these nails are for 2 days only, not made to last! If she wanted them to last longer then she shouldve had enhancements! xx

Thanks for the replies.
I did express that she had to be really careful with them and she certainly didn't blame me. Infact, she did say, 'Oh, don't use me as a example as my nails are really weak'.
This is the lady who was my model for my foundation course and loved her enhancements when I did them, but decided not to have them anymore as they kept 'coming off'. I have since discovered that some had some teeth aid! I am not saying she picked at these, but I know she was an excellent 'tapper' when her nails were done. Could this have caused a breakage?
And maybe I did blend too much. I wanted to encure there were no bumps.
This was the 1st time I had ever done them so I don't really know.
Maybe on my Bride I should use a thin L & P. I haven't got resin.
Would this be better or can someone just give me a brief on how to blend weekenders without taking it too thin please??

how much do you charge for weekenders if you dont mind me asking?

Just curious .....i've never done these )(never get asked) and dont see why peeps would want them.....i'd go for stick on's from boots or the real thing (set of enhancements).

Is there a market for them?

just read the bit about the bride - no way would i put this on her - how devasted would she be if they came off !

Persued her to have a nice set of enhancements that will last the honeymoon too !

I have found that the 'orrible stick on ones from boots can really damage the nail. I discovered this from changing my friend form them to enhancements that I now do on a regular basis for her. Her nails were 'dented' across the nail and and ripped to shreads where the nails had, over the years, pinged off. She says herself she would never go back to them and her nails are now growing and getting back to normal. We're nearly ready to do a NNO!
As for pricing, well, I am still practising and training. I only did my Foundation course with Creative end of March. Most people give a donation to the cause! lol

So after you apply and blend the tips....what happens next.

Is there a layer of anything over them before the polish?

Thanks

She can't have enhancements as she is back to work on the monday. It's not a huge posh wedding. There's no honeymoon and she is 8 months preggers. She asked me about them and I am doing them late friday. All she is doing is going out for a meal that evenng and having her hair done on the saturday morning before she gets married.
I think I will pick up on the suggestion about the thin L&P and soak them off for her on the sunday as we had planned.

yep i would go down the l+p route.

If your just starting out, this is your reputation. You dont want to get off on the wrong foot!

I have heard of weekenders but havent a clue what they are really.

I'd do a GOOD job and get a HAPPY client and get LOTS of referals from it.....not be sweating all day thinking oh POOP i hope they havent pinged off.

hth

I do do a good job. I am infact my own worse critic. All my clients are happy and give me good feedback. I was just after some advise really as to how to make them a little stronger. I don't really sweat about it it's up to the client to look after their nails! Jewels not tools and all that. Thanks for your comments though. xxx

ok! good luck hope all turns out well

I would definately get the bride to have enhancements not weekenders, as they are weak and could very well just come off with no real effort especially if she is running round like a headless chicken!!

I'd go for a thin coat of L&P over your next set of weekenders and maybe try not to thin too much, I generally blend where the tip meets the natural nail and then thin down a bit on the enhancement but not too much!

I dont do a thin layer of L&P anymore, just a french manicure or coloured enamel. If the client wants them to last any longer than say 2 days then enhancements all the way!

There is a market for me to do these, alot of school girls want them done, that cant have long nails in school. Usually about 16 years old ish!!

Think there's only one answer here.

To make "Weekenders" stronger, you'll have to turn them in to enhancements.

If I'm honest with you I've never done "Weekenders" and never been asked for them. The idea of them just seem a little pointless to me.

But hell, if that's what they want, then give it to them. But I guess they will just have to accept that they are not going to last, full stop.

:)

so am i right in thinking that a 'weekender' is ......

a blended tip with polish over it??????????

Nothing else to add any strength?

thats not how i do my weekenders....i learnt from my first day of training when i had to tip and blend 1 hand and the next day i had to overlay them...i broke 3 that night !!...there is no strength at all in tips alone.

thats what im thinking - so i have got this wrong?

No you havent got it wrong, what I meant to say, is that generally I dont put a layer of L&P over the top, just blend and polish, some people dont want to come back to have them removed, so prefer not to have the layer of L&P.
If I was to fling a quick set of wekend nails on for myself, I would always do a thin layer of L&P, mine have lasted over 10 days like this!!

Thin layer it is then and I will tell her to be soooooooooooo careful. She can't really run around liek a headless chicken because she is sooooooooooo big, poor thing. Thanks everyone for helping out with this one.
