What do you say when anyone asks what is your profession??

I dont like saying a Beautician... So I always say Holistic and Beauty Therapist. Many ask what is Holistic so you open the question with what your job in tells. Have made many a booking by this question.

The word Beautician makes me cringe! i think its so degrading.

a beautician to me is some one that works in a department store in the "beauty" section

some one calling me a beautician is like a slap in the face! i didnt work my arss off for to years for nothing!!

i call my self a Beauty and Make up Specialist.

i am always improving my knowledge and skills i think its vital to stay on top of your game.

I'm a Beauty and Massage Therapist. :green: And VERY proud of it!

One of my MANY titles (depending on who I am talking to) is "skin specialist".

I'm a 'Cosmetologist' some days
A 'Barber' other days

I'm a holistic therapist or a complementary therapist or sometimes I say that I 'do massage'!.

have slowly started venturing into the beauty side, do body wraps and facials, but wouldn't call myself a beauty therapist as I havent done NVQ2.

I say I am a beauty and holistic therapist too :)

Remedial Massage Specialist.

I'm well and truly sick of people asking me what else I do when I say massage therapist so I now call myself a remedial massage specialist.

I was so angry one day I told the person 'I'm a massage therapist, not a prostitute. He apologised.

Isn't it strange how time changes the language.
Back in the 60's I went to a stage school and I loved watching our beauticians strut their stuff, changing a young face to an old one, applying scars, hiding real ones, dramatizing for the stage, understating for the photo shoots.
To me it was the most exciting side of the acting world and it was the only thing I wanted to be, all the stage beauticians I met were unfailingly patient with a nosy small child who had a thousand questions for them every time she met them:lol: I have never changed my opinion, to me a beautician is I highly skilled, highly trained goddess of her industry.
I also don't look down on those people who work on the beauty counters better known as beauty sales reps, I often see the quality of their work as they perform makeovers on ladies in the department stores and have found them to be just as knowledgeable as the geeks on here, as well trained as geeks on here and just as dedicated.

Not sure about where you live but in Australia, those who work in the 'beauty' section have to be fully qualified beauty therapists.
