I hasten to add, that this is in the clients eyes, IMO.....my priorities differ. For example I, as a tech, would put hygiene way above price, but as hygiene is something that I think clients don't look at in depth (in fact they only really notice if its bad!) then IMO its a blind factor!

Its a great question and a good list Angie.....the fact that number 13 is salon decor, doesn't make it unimportant in my eyes.....just lower down the scale than others.

To be fair I also think the priorities on the list would maybe differ between a long-term client and someone looking for a new tech!

Nice one Bagpuss. As has been said, it's not my opinion but I think it's the 'majority view' of clients. After all, not all clients are born equal :)

xx

We recently did an online survey at NSI and asked "What do your customers complain about the most?"

If you are interested in the answers, go to the NSI blog and read "And the Survey Says..." We got some really interesting feedback from techs that goes along with the question you are asking here.

A lot of clients are very nervous when they come in and have told me that they have had to pluck up the courage to come in, so the thing they want more than anything is to be greeted in a friendly way and then to be made feel comfortable while they have their nails done.. funny itsn't it cause my list would be so different from that

Do we think too many clients go by price....

Would we like more clients to go by Brand/Training...

Do clients even think about if we have good hygene...

I have lost count of the amount of times a new potential client rings and the first thing they ask is "How much..?" why should price be the deciding factor.....I could charge £5 a set but if they don't last and look pants then its still a wasted £5.........

Angie, this is so true, I have a mix of questions when a potential client calls, but the "How much" crops up a lot. It used to worry me when I first started, but not now. If they haven't hung up when I tell them the price, the next thing they say is normally well I can get my nails done at x salon for for x amount.

I take this then as my opportunity to explain that I use a high end product that lasts and so on, which in turn leads to a good conversation and even if they don't book with me, they have a wee bit more insight into different enhancement services.

Great thread :)

This may come under 'quality of work' but if not longevity of the enhancements/polish and also the finished look could go on the list?

With my practically non-existent client experience lol I would expect that the first thing alot of people would look for is.....the price...the services available....the appointment availability (i.e can they just drop in when they feel like it lol)

4. Longevity (how long the nails will last)
5. Location (& parking perhaps go hand in hand)
6. products (do they recogise anything)(sounds stupid but if a person hadnt been into a new salon before for example...seeing a brand they recognise or have seen somewhere before may help them feel more sure about the place..iykwim!)

6. Salon decor (its a first impressions thing)
7. friendliness
8. confidentiality

Reputation, professionalism and hygiene in particular I think unfortunately may be last.

I think those things may roughly be (maybe without them realising actually) the order.

And thats of say someone looking to get there nails done but obviously its going to be varied depending on the individual.

I was talking to someone today who regularly visits an NSS salon...in her own words "they are really dirty but its the only place ive ever been to that my nails stay stuck on!"
Her priority is obviously Longevity first....hygiene last! lol x

is def the top of the list

then price

I agree Anna...I did mean longevity with quality of work..(just couldn't spell longevity..)

I think thats what most clients would be looking for...nails that last and look good while they last...which is why i am amazed that so many ask first "how much"

Thankfully my clients go 3-4 (a few 4-5) weeks and apart from the regrowth they still look good....this isn't me boasting but me trying to understand why even when told this i still get "how much".

Perhaps because the majority-in a nutshell- want nails that last as long as possible but cost as little as possible to put on....but when push comes to shove the price is the real swayer...and if they are willing to pay higher prices its probably only because they might think theyve got something extra in with it as well that makes it worth that bit extra...but not quality...more like a freebie of some sort! people are materialistic ... however I dont wish to generalise everyone...I know there are some that appreciate other things as oppose to price!

I wish my nails would last that long before lifting..or even better....never lift would be nice!! The cuticle lifting isnt too bad...maybe a bit there but nothing major and a lot less than it used to be...but im getting it mainly on the sidewalls now...and I know why...cos im not pressing it in enough, quick enough I reckon! grrr  x
