I'm just wondering as I am off to do my course next month. I have LOADS of people on my list to be models. Most of them want me to go to thier homes and they have children.
From what I can gather and from what I have read on Geeks posts...these are quite hard to master. That's fine as I will put in any amount of time that I need too to practice until I become good at it. But how did you find it starting out and going to clients houses that have children?
Is it just a nightmare? Do you find you can do these well with loads of noise? Or am I best off just saying if you cant come to me in the begining then I can't do them?

Thanks guys xxx

I have kids at home and clients come to me. There is no way that I could do them with the kids running about. I only do lashes in the evening. However one of my kids is 1 1/2yrs and he is the main problem. My 5yr old asks me questions all the time (when I am trying to concentrate), but my 6yr old isn't too bad.
I had a client in a couple of days ago, just for a quick touch up as she had lost a few, her daughter came who was 3yrs and it was a nightmare as she wanted up on top of her mum and I was worried she would touch the glue.

I wouldn't recommend doing it while the children are running about, but evening when they are in bed should be fine.

The is just my experience of it, you may find it a lot easier than me xxx

Personally for a treatment such as this, I would ask people to come to me or ask that someone is watching the children if you go to them. You need to concentrate and could do without the worry of any one knocking you or all of your products/equipment.

xx

I would say no children allowed. You are working on clients eyes with sharp tweezers. I definitely couldn't work with small children around.

Thank you all for your replies. Just as I thought...not a good idea!
Thank you for clearing that up for me

If you are giving them a discounted price for modelling, make them come to you without children! It is hard enough as it is without the bother of noisy children, and other distractions.

also, its hard work lugging your couch around and very time-consuming!

Yes I am mobile hun, so defo am with you on the hard work with the couch part!
I think I will say to them come to me. There is only a handfull that are not willing. Thank you for your advice x

Start as you mean to go on hun. Say no before you end up making a rod for your own back.

You would be surprised what kids manage to get up to while mummys eyes are closed, you feel like you have one eye of the kid and the other on the job.

Have a think about mobile too hun, do you have a suitable couch, floors and floors just dont cover it... also if you a nail tech im sure youve come accross that home that doesnt have a chair...yes they exist and you have found it! Think about a suitable chair with a back that is small enough to fit in your car.
Posture is very important!!

Remember you will have to lug that bed around with you to hopefully lots of places, it will drive you mad. Try and dictate the environment the best you can, try and request a quiet area if possible in the home

Its hard to concentrate and not feel pressured when dads getting dinner for the kids and cant find things in the kitchen and mums faffing around trying to think with her eyes shut... or Eastenders is on (great for you) but they want a running commentary of whos doing what and where because of course they cant see. Try and think of your own home and its crazy times xx

Thank you Heather for your excellent advice!
I am mobile at the minute with my beauty. It's hard enough doing an eyelash tint with kids around. I even ended up feeding one kid his dinner while the mothers tint was on  and that's an easy treatment. So it did make me wonder. I have chairs etc but I didnt know you could do this treatment sitting down. I think you might have your work cut out training me lol 12 sleeps and counting :)
I am definately going to tell them all to come to my home salon...child free! Thank you hun xxx

oh no Kylie... you are not expected to stand for all that time your poor tootsies.. no no no!

I look forward to the challenge... no challenge is too great x

I totally agree with the others......i would not do any lashes with kids around, whether they are in the same room or running havock outside....neither you nor the client wont be able to relax and /or concentrate.
If they are your kids and having to go and sort them out in between its not only going to break your flow and rhythm but it also means you constantly have to go back to wash your hands and make sure the kids dont come near your tools which is a stressy time and an interruption you can do without especially when you are just starting out with lashes.

There is a lot of therapists offering lashes mobile but just remember to put your pricing right if you are travelling to your client (your time and petrol) and dragging your couch, stool, mag lamp (as you never know what the lighting is going to be in your clients house) and maybe even a small foldable table (so you can lay your tools out) and your kit with you.

Especially at the beginning you are going to find it a lot more comfortable and reassuring to do the treatment at home or in your usual surrounding where you have everything set up and know where things are.....

great post, i had planned to offer eyelash extensions (after ive done my training, lol) as a mobile service - hadnt thought about clients kids
most of my current clients are brides for bridal makeup so i guess no problem there, they dont tend to have their kids in tow at trials etc so i guess it would be the same for applying lashes - but i guess im going to have to insist the kids are being looked after if doing a non bridal customer in her home - that might put a few customers off, but i guess i'll have to risk it
i would rather the client to come to me, but i live in a flat and have no spare room for performing treatments, it would hardly be professional setting up my couch in the living room, shame!

I practised lashes on a friend of mine at her house with her 2 kids plus my 2 kids, she had her partner take care of the kids, he had them all under control as they are both very firm parents, they were quietest in front of the telly. I guess I was lucky because her lashes didnt take long to do as she had small eyes, there were definately times when i thought, I couldnt possibly do this! when the kids were banging on the door, i had her lie down on her own bed.

Tbh i dont see a problem with you setting up your couch in your living room....i find it slightly different whether you are offering lashes or for example waxing....i dont think waxing in a lounge or bedroom would be appropriate but lashes should be ok?

You can always prewarn clients and say that you normally offer this mobile but if they want to come to you, you are happy putting the couch up in the lounge so that they know what to expect when they come?

wowbb
thank you for responding to my comments.
do you really think it would be acceptable for me to offer this treatment in my lounge? i did consider it, but had not seen anyone else post that they work from their lounge - everyone seems to have spare rooms converted into beauty rooms, renting space etc so i thought my only option would be to go mobile as i do with my bridal makeup
that would work really well for me, i guess it would be no different to offering the treatment in the clients lounge and i could offer it at a reduced price to mobile to try and encourage clients to come to me?
thinking about it, i personally wouldnt mind having my lashes done or any treatment really in someones lounge, i guess its the therapists skills you are paying for not the location or decor - my lounge is very spacious, light and airy with 2 large windows so in a way it would be ideal, i guess i could always offer them the choice and prewarn them that it will be in my lounge
you've got me thinking now, some nice scented candles, perhaps a screen just to give that extra bit of privacy from the lounge related paraphenalia!.

A separate room would of course be fantastic but if you think about it...if you go mobile and do the lashes in someone elses house you would most likely be doing it in their lounge too and i think your idea is fantastic! If you have the space and can put a partition / folding wall/ screen up that would be really nice and with some candles and your couch and trolly it would be a really good compromise and it might help you too to feel better doing it at home?

Im going to be really honest and say that personaly, I as a customer, wouldnt like to have my lashes done in someones lounge. If its a full set you can be laying there for a couple of hours, and I know i wouldnt be able to relax as Id think the family/other residents were going to come strolling in. It can make people feel a little vunerable anyway, even in a purpose built room! Having said that, the therapist I visit for my facials does work from her bedroom, and I find it fine. She has a screen infront of her bed, and her couch and trolly at the end of the room. Its fine.

I have done lashes in my lounge, there is only me and my daughter and its when she is in bed, i work mobile but sometimes my clients insist on having lashes done when i am not able to go to them, i tell them that yes i will do them but they will have to come to me and that it will be done in my lounge, they dont mind and its their decision if they dont want that appt they will have to wait til i have a suitable appt for them in their own home.
