What do you expect of your trainer/educator?

This is part of a project I am working on at the moment and would value the opinions from you the nail technician. As we all know good education is worth it weight in gold. I'm sure that most of us come away from a class feeling motivated, inspired and elated. I for one get a real buzz from...

9 out of 10 and unusal requests

Similar to Christine, I have a client that has her white straight across, no smile, I hate it! It makes her nails look white at the top. I've tried so hard to change her, just hopes she doesn't tell anyone I did them!

    manicure/pedicure certificate

I did an IHBC back in the 90,s, it's very generic. Of course the anatomy & physiology is the same but the rest of it (and from what I see & hear it hasn't changed) needs to be updated. It certainly wouldn't be the type of manicure you could perform on a client in the salon today. Things have...

Do you have many nail technicians as clients

I too have 3 nail technicians come to me to have their nails done. It doesn't bother me at all. They see it as a treat, I see it as business. I'm confident enough in my work not to let it bother me. And these 3 constantly pick my brains, but I take that as a compliment. What does bother me a...

How to make the most of your creation

One of my pet hates is two hands, fingers splayed, spread out on the kitchen table! I know we're not all David Baileys but........it makes sense that if you want people to see your work, then photograph your work, not 95% hand, 5% nail! You don't even have to include all ten. One picture for...

    The competition in your town

A bit of competition is good, keeps you on your toes! Where I am we are the only 'nails only' salon in town, excluding the one NSS. There are plenty of beauticians that offer nails but not many have dedicated working nail technicians. Even the local perfume shop has added a nail table! I've...

    How Popular Are Painted Nails?

I have approx. 95 enhancement clients and out of that only 4 have their nails polished, the others are all french or glitter/coloured. When I manicure approx half will have a french or a pale colour. Shame really because there are so many beautiful polish colurs out there.

    Client Consultation Cards...

I keep records cards and fill them out in front of my clients. It doesn't take long, first thing in the morning I get the ones out I need for that day and usually fill in the details when my client is washing her hands. It tells me alot about client patterns ie. breakages, I make notes on...

putting dog in a boarding kennel

Looks very nice Hannah, go check it out. It looks clean bright and airy and no chicken wire in sight! Their prices are very reasonable too. I pay £12 per for my boy to go to the holiday home, the price of the prison camp kennels round here are £10 per day. It's a hard life!

    3d nail art

3d can be applied directly onto the nail but if you are building an intricate design piece by piece this can also be done by making each leaf/petal etc on a piece of cling film or tin foil (my preferred method. When ready to apply to the nail I use clear acrylic powder in smaill amounts Jane

putting dog in a boarding kennel

My dog doesn't go to a kennel, he goes to a holiday home for dogs! Seriously, it's lovely. They have rooms with a TV and a bed of the floor. It's great, real home from home. It's always best to go by recommendation from someone else. Always go and check it out first. Look and the...

Starting Out - doing a business

When I first moved into a salon not many of my mobile clients cam to me there. So in the beginning I had alot of time of my hands. Drank vast amounts of coffee! But it also gave me time to practice, designs etc, that I could display on the wall or in the shop window. Gradually the clients...
