I have separate salon insurance and public liability insurance,
my P/L is with professional beauty and my salon insurance is with Barclay's bank hth

Do you work from a salon, home or mobile?

I work from home and my p/l and stock etc is covered under my household insurance. It is not covered automatically, it is something that has to be underwritten, and many insurers won't cover you if you work from home. (You need to go to a proper broker.)

Norwich Union do a Home Workers policy, I was quoted £750 for this BUT of course it all depends on your postcode and the re-buiding cost of your home.

No its going to be for a salon in hertfordshire

I would recommend you phone around local insurance brokers - ones that advertise commercial rather than personal - they'll probably send someone out to meet you to establish your requirements

I have :( none of yet to come out and see me they just put you on hold on the phone for ages then expect you to accept their offer but i always say i prefer it in writing theres so information you can take in over the phone.
i'm sure i'll get there soon hopefully tried a few online hope they get back to me too

Try to get a local firm, one that is not a chain, and one that advertises when they were established. (The one I use was est 1921, lol) You will get better service, I promise you :)

its a shame i can't use est 1921 lol as i dont live in Berkshire
i'll keep on trying even though its soo fustrating :-

Did Prof Beauty Direct say they couldnt cover your contents cause they were happy to do mine.

yeah they definitely did- they said that dont offer any insurance for contents that is very strange that you have yours with them when they told me NO unless the person i spoke to couldnt be bothered to work out the quote if that was the case i'll phone back and see hopefully someone else will answer

If you download the application form it details about the available extensions to the cover. One of which is property and equipment all risks - extension item G.

Salon Gold saved me £100 per year on my salon insurance as compared to my previous shop insurance which I got from a broker. It includes absolutely everything you need for salon, employee liability, product liability, indemnity, glass, cash, equipment, and more I don't remember as I don't have the schedule beside me.

Shop/Salon insurance is very different to individual/self employed/mobile insurance.

I did enquire to Salon Gold personally i found them far to expensive as i'm the only employee working in the salon and its only small.

Thankyou very much for the link you sent OEY i really apreciate it i will have lot of ringing around to do tomorrow the only thing i noticed was on the terms & Conditions 'It mentions please Note where required the insurer must either be registered or working for a salon which is registered with the healthcare commission under the care standards act 2000 and ammended by the health and social care act 2003'

How do i go about that never knew about it? it is another expense?
Hope to hear from you soon

As far as I am aware the "where required" part refers to treatments that are invasive to the skin like electrolysis etc. It is not an area I am trained so it isnt applicable but perhaps those that are trained in these procedures will know more.

Hi all

Can I suggest (with no axe to grind here!) that anyone with this query try Balens 01684 893006.

They are the brokers for our BABTAC insurance; and although we don't cover contents, they are specialists for therapists and do so. They are also good people who don't keep you hanging on the line!

Please mention me and Salon Geek when you call... the brownie points are always welcome!

BALENS ? Oh yes, I was trying to think of their name as they're the insurers that Fozzyo was saying were great. So Philip, when I change my insurance to BABTAC, do I get a seperate cover for contents from them, or do they tie it in with my BABTAC insurance.

I'm currently insured with Pro beauty and I don't have any complaints and joing was easy........it's just that comparing my cover to my friends BABTAC insurance, there's no comparison in the cover. To be honest, I was guilty of just wanting any cover and not reading the small print. I know they're cheap but you get what you pay for in life. If I wanted to switch to BABTAC now, do I ask have Pro Beauty to cancel my policy as you can only claim off one policy.......is that right?

How about having Profesionnal beauty for public liability and balen for contents will that not work?
o'm going to be ringing around today as you salon geeks have given me enough information to do so lol thankyou and ill lt you all know how i get on

I guess it would. It's just that after a recent thread, I contacted several beauty insurers to have a read of what cover you get for your money. It's amazing how they differ and although the cheap ones are great from a financial level initally...........but they're not great when you see that you have an excess to pay if you make a claim and there's loads that you're not covered for in the small print. I just want peace of mind really so I think I'll change to one that gives me just that. I also want one with legal cover and that's worth it's weight in gold. xxx

Hi there. We can offer Stock & Equipment cover for sole traders if you are a Guild Member. Guild Membership costs £85 plus a £10 joining fee. The Stock & Equipment cover is then an additional premium of £60 which gives you cover of up to £3000 (all risks) for tools of the trade.

If you are a full salon owner who employs staff, we would have to refer you to our broker for a quote.

If you would like any further information, feel free to give one of our Membership Advisors a call on 0845 2177 383.

Hope this helps, and PM me if you need to know anything else.
