Hi, I'm very new to all this. Started my course last September, but only starter doing L&P about 5 weeks ago. Our college uses the odourless Tammy Taylor, which I must confess I'm not happy with, it takes far too long to set and the colour goes yellow after about a week or two. After researching (mostly on this fab site!), I have decided that I want to do a conversion course in CND L&P in Edinburgh, and have already made enquiries about doing just that as soon as my course is finished in June (assuming I pass of-course! :)), CND sent me a sample kit of their product so this was my first attempt at using it, and already I can see the difference in the product, I know they are still far from perfect and any criticism/comments/advice are most welcome, but I just wanted to say thanks to all for this site, I have learned so much more from here than at college!

nothing to be ashamed of there.
i notice that the tips of middle finger and thumb seem slightly longer than the others and that the white tip seems to be too far down on the nailbed for the thumb, shortening the pink area and knocking it out of proportion somewhat. you appear to have a smooth finish and be flush in the right areas.
overal a good result that shows excellent potential.

i think its a shame that your college has chosen the t.t odourless as their product, if they had gone with the regular tt range i think you would have done much better with it.

nothing to be ashamed of there. Thanks I know I still have much to learn, and the CND product set so much faster than the TT odorless, that I had a bit of difficulty with my smile lines, but hopefully that will come with practice, practice, practice.

Yes they are longer, I can see that myself now. I broke my natural thumb nail the day before I did these and as the pink sample I had received from CND was a sheer pink I couldn't place my white any further up the nail bed, but hopefully I can do better with both these next time.
overal a good result that shows excellent potential. Thanks, I wish I could believe that more myself, as some days I feel no matter how much times I practice, I'm not getting any better and have been ready to give up a few times, but coming on this site and seeing some of the wonderful work that you guys do and learning that you were all at this stage at one point gives me the encouragement to carry on, and hopefully one day I can do a set of nails that I can say are "perfect", thats my goal!

I agree, but I can understand that they have to use the odourless as there is no ventilation in the room, but I feel its a waste of money as we had to spend £115 on our kit, which none of us intend using when we are qualified as its not great, and I think it also has put most of us off using Tammy Taylor altogether, which is probably a shame as I'm sure the original product would be fine.

i think these are a great start.
i agree with angelfingers and also i noticed that the thumb looks abit wide but i also agree that you have got a lovely finish to these nails and the cuticle area looks nice and flush well done.x

you go girl keep doing your thang

Ooh very nice I think your are making a very good move by going with CND

they look quite good, I agree with all above posts.

Keep in mind ... odorless and traditional acrylics work very differently, the ratios are completely different. Odorless is much dryer (but gets wetter).

You have to build odorless slightly thicker (to allow for the slight layer peel off)

Odorless do tend to yellow

I've been playing quite a bit lately with odorless, it's OK, but nothing to write home about.

I've also been told you can get more allergic reactions to the product:eek:

Thanks very much for all the comments. It's really encouraging to be able to get such useful feedback.

You will improve when a CND Ambassador gets you in her class.

These nails need a slightly higher vertical apex (to get a prettier and rounder shape .. particularly important on an oval or almond shaped nail) plus more consistency in shape and smiles.

They are not a bad first attempt and I wouldn't be ashamed of them if I were you. You will improve vastly when you have had your class.

I think as a beginner these are great! - yeah a few tweaks needed but nothing major. You show great potential and I would highly recommend CND I have just completed 2 courses with them, you'll learn loads of new tips to help you. Well done xx :)

Thanks again for all your comments, they are most encouraging, I only wish all my attempts were good enough to put on here as I've had a few dissasters also!

I'm really looking forward to my CND training as I'm sure this is where I will really begin to learn. College is good but I feel the training is quite basic and we're really just left to find things out for ourselves (mostly on this site!).

I believe the Scottish ambassador is on this site? If so could you tell me when the dates are for gel and L&P courses as I only have the dates up until June and I don't complete my course until June?
thanks
