Hi there, I have recently completed my calgel training, (Monday) and am loving it! I have only done 7 sets of french nno's so am still soooooo new. I love the pink that was supplied in my kit, (no 43) but find that on some people, the pink "dissapears". I was wondering if it is my application method, (i apply one coat of pink then the white, which is comp white) or if there are other french colours to try? Any help/suggestions would be very greatfully received!

HAVE YOU GOT No 2 IN YOUR KIT? I SOMETIMES USE THIS INSTEAD OF CLEAR OR No 43.

Hi jackie, no I didnt get number 2. Is this one that is worth having for french then? Is it a dense pink or still very natural and sheer? Looking through my calgel workbook again, I have a feeling that I am maybe applying the pink too thin as well. This could make it look very washed out couldnt it? It is so hard to judge the amount! Sorry, lots of questions!:)

Jac Extreme recommended no 52 for French recently:hug:

Yep I find 52 great, I have no 43 but find it too bubblegummy IYKWIM:)

Right I will pop that colour on my ever-increasing-shopping list, lol! The method I use for my french is as follows;
thin layer of clear - cure
thin layer of pink, (43) swipe smile line and "freeze" it with a 30 sec cure
white, (cw) - cure 3 mins
Calcrystal

Does anyone do anything differant? My friend does a layer of clear and cures at the end before calcrystal, but no clear at start! She also does 2 layers of pink. Im confused, (trust me, not hard, lol)

I don't do a layer of clear to start, not on NNO.

first layer of 52, scrubbing the gel into the the nail plate, swiping out the smile line and cure for 3 mins.
Second layer of 52 swipe and cure for 3 mins.
white application and cure for 3 mins.
Clear builder layer and cure for 30 secs.
If necessary I may remove sticky layer and buff out any unevenness either at this stage or after applying whites.
Final coat of clear but with a bit of purple in it, that Robyn put in for me, which helps prevent yellowing and cure for 30 secs.
Working on one hand at a time.

Thank you! You are a star. I will give it a bash this way as I have been finding that one coat of pink is too thin up against the white, so the white ends up looking a bit thicker. many thanks all!

I like to use sw, or 01 for the white, then 52 or 02 are my favourites.

When you say a bit of purple do you mean Purple gel ? can you elaborate on this please, ie how much ratio clear/purple and was it added to the whole pot? I have not heard of this before - does it work?
Thanks.

Im confused,,,,,again! lol!
What does scrubbing the gel into the nail plate mean? Sorry to be daft but not heard this before:o

Scrubbing or working the gel into the nail plate:-

Use a small amount of gel just enough to wet the nail and work the gel all over the nail in a rather heavy handed way with the bristles. If you just gently lay gel on a nail it will not find and bond with all the microscopic pits/furrows on the nail surface, the bristles of the brush will when you push the thin layer of gel over and into the nail. Then place the full amount of gel over the nail as usual for shape etc.

I think its purple rain, Chris at Calgel told me Robyn uses this. I just mix a little of the purple rain into my clear gel. I have a half used pot of clear and just used a little purple rain and folded it in.

yes thats it, I have one pot of clear gel, which I use for building etc and one pot that Robyn put a teensy bit of purple in (the end of a pushie) just enough so if you put a dab of gel onto the inside of your gel pot lid you can see a slightly mauve look to it and I use this for my final coat.

I too use 52 for french - it was the pink my distributor recommended. She showed me another colour exactly the same but it had a bit of shimmer in it. In regards to the purple coat, in Canada it is called 'UV Gel Topcoat' and it is already mixed for us. It is probably the same as the mixture described above. The bit of purple really does counteract yellowing and it makes it look very bright and fresh. I also use the Calcrystal polish topcoat which helps even more. Without them I find 52 can look a bit blah.

Hey Jac...I dont think its 'purple rain'....

I asked Robyn when i did my training if she could add a bit in for me.. but she didnt have the purple on her so she told me the colour so i could add it myself instead... I remembered her telling me that its just 'purple'.. as in the colour purple from the chart... number 21 or 50... matt purple colour.. no glitter...

Im going to email Robyn and find out for sure although im not sure if I will get a response cos she is pregnant and most probably on maternity leave now...

I recently purchased number 52 which i found to give a lovely finish, i tried it on my own nails and both finishes i found to be a pretty finish for the summer. I think it is nice to show the client and let them decide.. i personally love the lighter shade of 52 ... but that is just my opinion ( and not everyones
!) XX Each to their own ... :)

I was definately told purple rain because i wrote it in the back of my workbook.Ive never bought it and tried it though.

I will have to phone head office about this purple thing. I cant understand why purple rain would be the added gel??? It is a fine purple glitter in clear gel. What if you client did not want glitter top coat! When I get the answer from the horses mouth I will post it here. I am intrigued:confused:
Thanks for your replys.

Yes on the chart it is a glitter gel,ive never got it though.
I was definately told this because there would have been no reason for me to write it down and its also been mentioned by the others.
I do think there is a misunderstanding though as Robyns clear gel was quite purple but no sign of glitter.
