Hi Everyone

Just wondered what other mobile nail techs do when they turn up at a clients house to do there nails and no one is home. I did some silk nails for a lady and she booked an infill appointment while i was there and she wrote the appointment on her calander and i also gave it to her on an appointment card.

I turned up on the morning to do her infills and no one was in i knocked a few times and then called the ckient on her mobile but there was no answer so i left her a message on the mobile explaining that i had turned up and no one was in. What do all you other mobile techs do if you turn up and your client is not there.:irked:

I would shove a bill through the letter box!

I have thought about that but there is no guarante that she would pay it:irked:

I always try to send a quick text the day before to confirm the appointment... and sometimes I'll text when I'm on my way just to make sure.

i did text her the day before, but got no reply but i don't always get a reply when texting clients but never had it before where there was no one in when i arrive :irked:

The problem is something may have happened to her. I would send her a polite note along with the bill just in case.

How much would you send a bill for

I've only billed one client and she wasn't a regular or I wouldn't have done it. I charged her 50% of the treatment which came to £40 it says on my cancellation policy that this will happen. She actually sent me the cheque but I never heard from her again. She just forgot as it was the run up to her wedding, I felt bad but I had driven 30 minutes to her home and sat outside for 30 mins just in case.

Usually if it's a new client, then I will send a quick text to remind her of the appointment.

If she doesn't response to my text, then I will call her, and if she doesn't answer her call, then I will leave a message reminding her of her appointment and asking her to call/text me back to re confirm.

If I don't hear from her then I just don't go.
I have saved myself from knocking on a empty house a few times by doing this.

What did you put on your bill, i am just raising one now to send to my client :irked:

Have you spoken to her since?I think Weezie has a valid point that something could have happened. She could have been rushed to hospital or a family member very ill or passed away and totally forgotten the appointment.

I know it's probably a longshot but these things do happen and I think where it's a new client I would be tempted to double check first before billing her or you could lose her as a future client.

Its damned annoying though the same as no shows in the salon.Deep down I would charge each and every one of them unless it's any of the above reasons.

you know what i would do? i would pop in unexpected when she answers the door say " ooohhh i was just checking that your ok, because i came to do your nails that appointment you booked and no one was here and I tried to contact you, are you sure your ok? ..........

Make her feel like you care about her and not your purse/till

Sometimes acting a bit blonde can go along way, she will really be sorry, bu you have broken the ice. And she may feel ashamed to contact you knowing she really forgot about you.

At the end of the day she may have done it once, but she will remeber you next time, im sure

Hope this helps, let me know how you get on:hug:

happens a lot...

best way to stop it is to take deposits.

always feels a bit awkward at first but if it also shows you're serious and allows you to say you're busy (whether you are or not). people always want they can't have...

if someone won't pay a deposit it often means the obvious.

hope that helps.

Brend x.

Yea that's a good point actually, it's so easy to go mad and send her a bill and so on. But she may feel really bad about what she's done. It's difficult because as much as she's wasted your time, you can't afford to not charge her something, then again it could work against you. I allways think of that and never know the best option of how to handle it. At the end of the day you want to keep her, but she could mess you around again, so is she worth keeping??? Hope that made sense?

Well...... call her the day before her next booking and say " hi ???? just calling to remind you about your appointment tomorrow at 5pm because I know your a very busy lady" (meaning Im calling you so you wont forget me this time :smack:) Then when your doing her nails just remind her when she books in next time "oh dont forget if you want to change/cancel your next appointment just me know 24hrs before your appointment" (cos you have a life n all)

I know clients can be a pest sometimes but we always have 1 or 2 to upset the applecart.

Note on your appointment cards as well in a different colour or highlighted that 24hr notice should be given for cancellation/change of appointment otherwise a 50% fee will be charged.

Hope it helps:hug:

unless they have a very good excuse I strike them off! but perhaps the bill through the door would be better
I had a client at 9am, (as I am not an early riser and don't usually start till 11am unless client can only manage before that time) having gone home early from a night out on the drink so I was fresh, turned up bright and breezy pushed the buzzer, no reply! as seciruty door knew before 12pm could get in pressing trade, so got in and knocked on her door........ still no reply! I could hear her talking to her husband I was fuming!
And to boot lost out as I had another client wanting a 10am appt which I had said I could'nt do as client booked already.
I was so angry I never took her calls again, next time someone does that It'll be a bill through the door!

When it comes right down to it, isn't that what any other business person would do? Unfortunately there are too many nail technicians who are not business minded along with whatever talent they have for doing nails.

If it states in your literature that missed appointments will be charged (and I would make this the full rate) then by law they have to pay if you send them a bill .. you can even take them to small claims court if they dont (and these things seldom get that far when they find out you intend to go through with it, they just pay you).

Nail technicians would get more respect if they behaved in a business like way and stopped behaving like women who don't have a clue about how to run a business.

PS This answer is not directed to the poster in particular. It is a GENERAL comment to ALL.

I totally agree with Geeg. No other profession would put up with missed appointments and not charge for their lost time. If you want to be seen as a professional, you have to act like one in every respect and that includes valuing your precious time.

Also remember, it's very important that YOU choose your customers. At the first opportunity get rid of the idiots, the timewasters, the penny-pinchers and those that don't value your service - they only bring grief and hassle. You are in business and it's not a social charity.

Fill your time only with clients that respect you and value both your time and service. Life will not only be simpler but you will also make more money.

Better to have some hours in your appointment book free to plan your business, do some marketing, practise some technique or do something which gives you long term benefit than plonk a loony in the chair who isn't part of your long term strategy!

Totally agree with you Geeg, To be perfectly honest just never thought of it, I will be in fututre though, at the end of the day its us that loses out and the clients need to know that beauty professionals are to be taken seriously xx

Hey, I think as frustrating as it may be id probably agree with Jarvis & either drop by her house or phone some time & say u were concerned about her as ud never heard from her, etc etc, I have to admit im one of those people who "if they're having a bad time for whatever reason hide in their shell dont want to talk etc" Giver her a chance to explain her reasons cos we do sometimes forget things when more important family matters etc arise & at least you'll know either way xx
