Hi guys

I'm writing an article for Company magazine (A young womens monthly) about coin-operated unstaffed sunbeds and just wondered if you knew any young women who'd had a bad experience on one? We want our readers to use sunbeds safely and know of the risks if they don't follow the guidance given by good salons.

Thanks

Hi, I don't have any experience of clients burning or having bad reactions to sun beds, because we adhere strictly to the Sun Bed Association's guidelines at my salon. You may have already contacted them already but can I suggest you speak to the sun bed association to get up to date guidelines about responsible tanning for your readers?

Coin operated unstaffed sunbed outlets should be banned or at least avoided.

As Thomas said salon outlets that adhere to the guidelines set out by the sunbed association offer a much safer environment for the consumer to tan.

It would be well worthwhile including in your write up that it is a recommendation of this sector that consumers adhere to the guidelines as directed by registered sunbed association salons.

You can google TSA and there is an abundance of information there for your reference alternatively call up Cathy Banks who heads the TSA 0194 785941

Good luck with your article....remember a good tan is a safe tan

st tropez have a petition going for what your writing about at mo

is there such a think as a "safe sun bed" ????? with what we know about the dangers of UVA exposure??

i dont think so at all, the safest tan is a fake tan! :wink2:

Good luck with your article.

Sorry but sore subject! How the hell do you use a sunbed safely? They are NOT safe they cause skin cancer, age your skin and cause broken capillaries.
Think you are posting this is the wrong place as I have never come across a Beauty Therapist that will recommend sunbeds to ANYONE.
Sorry to be blunt, nothing against you xxx

No sunbeds are safe they all do the same job none are safer than others. The only difference is some salons let any aged people go on them and take no notice of how often people use sunbeds.

Although I agree that unmanned sunbeds should be banned I do believe that if somebody wants to achieve a natural tan then supervised, controlled and monitored sunbeds are the safest way to tan.

I went to the coast yesterday and was amazed at the amount of 'lobsters' walking around and laying on the beach! I even saw a toddler in a pushchair with badly burnt feet:eek:. If any one of these people had been burnt like this in a sunbed it would have been all over the newspapers!

Sorry have to disagree sunbeds are never the safest way to tan the most safe way to be tanned is either spray tanning or application from a bottle

The original Thread starter hasn't actually been back on site since she posted this on 27th March. I would assume she followed Collin & thomas's advice for her article.
Does anyone buy Company magazine have they seen the finished article??

Yes, obviously, fake tans are safest way to go. What I was trying to say is that there's still a lot of people who only want a 'real' tan and I'd rather they use a controlled sunbed than spend all day in the sun (often with their children) without adequate protection.

I hate sunbeds with a passion and will never step in one again after having a melanoma removed 5 years ago.

I got addicted to sunbeds; I loved the warmth, the way they made me feel and look (at the time anyway)... Since then I have been splashing out on expensive skincare to try to reverse some of the damage I stupidly caused.

I now have a scar on the top of my thigh which is so not worth it

xx
