Hi Geeks,

I have suffered from anxiety and occasional panic attack now and then and i need to take my theory driving test at home the DSA said i need doctors note to state my problem and why i need it at home.

I spoke to doctors receptionist and she said you might have to pay 20.00 to get the note i said but the note isn't for me to take time off work its for my theory, i was wondering would i still need to pay the 20.00?

As i don't want them telling me i have to when legally i don't need to pay as its not for work reasons.

Thanks

It doesnt matter hun the Doc doesnt care why you need it or what for he just wants his money for doing it! Can you not do it at the theory centre? Take the batch calm rescue remedy. I also get panic attacks, not so much any more but it calmed my nerves xxx

a doctor's note is payable regardless of what it is for.

have you been taking driving lessons already?

just wondering if it may help you to use the technique you are using when you are driving to keep calm, and then you may not need to take the test at home?

I think its a complete p*ss take that they charge just for writing a note!

I do actually take rescue remedy and this does keep me at bay when I'm driving and every day life but my main problem is going into a building that's packed out with loads of people and i think its just going to make me fail my test then it would be a waste of money and time.

I suppose ill have to pay the 20.00 :(

Hun it really isn't that bad i promise you. Don't get their an hour early like silly me. You will go into a quite room and your computer will be screened off at the sides. Then you will finish and collect your results and jump for joy and scare the life out of everyone lol.
Or you could just pay the 20 quid. Or you COULD write a letter out stating that you suffer with panic attacks and cheekily get your doctor to sign and stamp it. But don't just go there for that, maybe go there when you need to see him for something else? xxx

Just a thought, but maybe you'd feel more at ease if you were to go to the test centre, have a look around and find out the layout and where everything is. Take someone with you to give you support (probably best if it's not one of your family, knowing what they're like from reading your other thread  ). If you phone them and explain I expect they'll be very helpful.

Well my sister works for the NHS and DSA said that it needs to be a headed letter and signed and stamped by NHS or my gp so tommorow my sister is going to see if she or someone else can do it.

I hope they can!

I might give this a go i would get my mum to take me as she has been 100% supportive with my problem due to suffering herself from the same problem! But then again shes the same she wont come in their with me because of her problem.

Ill just get the note hun, i would rather do my test with comfort rather than feeling on edge and rushing it just so i can get out of the centre.

Sorry, what I meant was for you to go maybe a few days/weeks before your test so you know what to expect. I don't think I explained myself very well. You would need to take someone who's completely at ease, not someone who has the same problem as you. It's entirely up to you though, you have to do what's right for you. Good luck with the test anyway.

I remember having to pay my doc £15 for him just to write on the back of a passport photo "To the best of my knowledge this is the true likeness of Jessica boyce" or something like that, seems like a bit of a rip but then you are paying for his time like anything else, £15 for 5 mins though, not bad going lol.
As has been said, the test centres aren't too bad, (well the one I went to wasn't) when I done mine there was only ever 3 -4 people in the room a time and your concentrating on the test that much that you don't even realise they're there.
Good luck with the test

I've had a couple of clients and a member of staff asking me to do this when they are renewing/applying for a passport for themselves or one of their kids, they asked me as I own a business I suppose.

Regarding the charge, I would agree on the whole - until one client cocked up the form not once but TWICE  which meant I had to sign the photo/passport three times in all, and I can tell you that by the third time the novelty was wearing off and I blooming well felt like charging her £15. Especially when the salon was busy during the summer months, and I was rushing about trying to fit it in between treatments!! So I can understand why GPs have to charge for this service. I'm sure if I'd charged her £15 she'd have got it right first time.

Sorry to go completely off the subject . . .
Good luck with your theory test and hope you pass first time x

Hi Its an awful place to be iv had anxiety and panic attacks since i as 17....I have a few stories that have made me embarrassed but I can laugh at them now.

Every one is different as to how they feel comfortable and as said before it might be good for you to to go and have a look around first and maybe drive their.....As you will know its different things that effect people for me its small crowded spaces or it can be the other side and be a supermarket lol.

Have you been to see your doctor and ask for advice or see what medication is available for just that day.

For me when i was going through my really bad stage of panic attacks. I was given a 2mg Diazipam, even if i didnt take it just to have it with me knowing if i get in a state its their.... normally calms me down but thats works for me ....

Hope you manage to go and do it....

I would be able to take Diazipam for driving Hun as i think it makes you drowsy when driving. I have spoke to doctor about this but he doesn't EVER offer me anything, but to be honest even if he did i would refuse it! As i prefer natural remedies they are more kinder and they seem to work to a certain extent.

My main issue is being around a crowd of people and in supermarkets, I do go shopping in town basically i do everything apart from go into big buildings with allot of people and i avoid supermarkets.

Sorry I thought it was for your Theory test you were talking about...

There is a DVD you can get which explains everything about the theory test.
It shows you what the test centre is like and how the test is conducted so at least you have an idea before you go.
I found it really helpful.
Not sure what i did with mine but will have a look round for it. If i find it i will let you know and if it helps, i can lend it to you

when i went to get one the doctor gave me it for free.

i think your first one may be free or something.
