My friend has constantly had L&P enhancements for around 18-24 months now getting regular rebalances throughout the duration (every 3-4 weeks according to her naturral nail growth).

She normally has a colour polish over her nail, but this time opted for painted white tips.

Where the clear acrlyic is, you can really see very white lines where the enhancements have been rebalanced - kind of like a trace of her own nail growth.

What could cause this on her nails?

I am thinking that as her nail tech uses an efile, it could possibly be where she is causing a slight trauma to the nail plate each time her rebalance is done?

Would I be right in assuming this or is this just a sign of another problem with her natural nails?

wearing enhancements for that length of time is what has caused the damage to her plate they are meant to be removed after 3 months so your nails can have a brake. so thats what i would say the problem is :) x

It is where all the lifting has not been filed away and the old acrylic blended correctly before the new acrylic was applied,
it is not caused from the electric file,
and nail enhancements do not have to be removed after 3 months to give your nails a break, nails do not need a break from enhancements that are fitted correctly, hth

yes thats exactly what my opinion is too.

the tech probably thinks that because she always polishes them that she neednt bother preventing these marks:rolleyes:

Thanks :D

I wasn't too sure as she said she does sometimes end up quite sore on her own nails where the file has caught them.

It isn't visible obviously with her normal polish on but looks like a pattern on each finger against the white tips!

Any damage to her natural nails from an electric file would show as bright red hun,
she could just have sensitive nails if they feel sore just after,

Ahhh thanks hun :D I have never been brave enough to let anyone loose on my nails with an efile - my natural nails are my own playground and I very rarely trust anyone else to touch them with any type of file hehe

Will point it out to her and be sure she gets a decent service next time she goes in :D

Hi hun, silly question, are thes lines running horizontally, ot vertically to the smile line... xx

In the same direction as the smile line hun - I would say each line is approx 3-4mm apart right from the cuticle up to the smile line itself xx

Hmmmm where does it say that nail enhancements need to be removed every 3 months?....you could wear them for years and have no problems if they are placed on & rebalanced correctly......

Moosey, CND didnt train me to remove every 3 months

Its bad/lazy workmanship that leave those kind of marks on nails...

Would the best advice I could offer her be to find a new tech? Or perhaps to raise a query with her current tech?

She has been using this particular salon for over 3 and a half years now and literally is there without fail for every appointment - that is some serious cash off one customer (they charge £27 for L&P and £22.50 for rebalance plus polish).

you can only pass on the advice that you have been given hun, then its up to her what she decides to do.
i will just say that i have worn enhancements constantly for atleast 2 years as i only take them off when i go into hospital and my nails have been back to normal within a couple of weeks of applying cuticle oil to help rehydrate them, hths.x

I have advised her to get some deent cuticle oil and to start caring for her hands and nails well - she has asked me to get some for her but as I am not trained, I can't purchase anything spectacular. Our local 2 salons don't sell anything retail - one is rather coy about thier products (saly the one she uses) and the other use products from a local wholesalers as opposed to well recognised brands.

I am going to see if I can persuade her to take this set off and get a new set applied at a different place closer to her work (Liverpool) as she may stand more chance of finding a CND trained tech over there :D

and dont forget that its not just cnd techs that produce quality work.

Aww thanks Fifi :D xxx

I know that there are lots of amazing techs out there who use other products also - didn't mean to put that across as biased - think because I want to eventually do training with CND I get carried away lol x

Agreed.....A good tech is a good tech no matter what products she uses.......

Im interested in this 3 month thing that has been mentioned by a CND tech, ive never heard this before...

I completely disagree with you, Moosey. As nail plates are continually growing, you will have a completely new nail plate in 3-6 months. Giving them a "break" is completely unnessessary and would serve no purpose.

Chances are, the lines in her nail at the fill line were caused by lifted product not being removed - not the e-file. We can't blame the tools as it takes a person to work them!

This isn't right...have a break from what....? I have clients who have had rebalances for 5 years or more.
