Hi, i using star nails gel system (non sculptured) and ive got used to it, have loads of it left and would prefer not to shell out for another system and learn it all over again, but.....

1) The longevity of the nails isnt good enough as they are.
2) Ive used a system with strengthener and it was stronger - proven.
3) No, i cant bear the stench and buffing of acrylic.

Cant i just mix a strengthening powder from another brand in with my star nails? I know people say "dont mix" but ive only seen 2 brands with a strengthening powder - Acrygel and Lightbox (mail order - a small company near where i live).

What you fink peeps?

Well I wouldn't.

IMO it would be better to convert to a better system. Why run the risk of problems with your clients nails ? You'd never really know what the outcome would be. HTH

so how do i know what is a better brand? i guess its like starting all over again, i was happy, until i used that powder....now i have to have it!

what do you use?

xx

hi i have just started acrygel along side my usual gel and so far i love it ! i wanted something else to offer (mainly for strength over tips and for sculpts ) but i havnt got a huge amount of money to keep shelling out for coursed etc but i found acrygel is a really reasonably priced conversion course

I use Creative.

The top companies do try me kits which can be purchased quite cheaply. This gives you the chance to try them out before commiting.

Try Creative, Ezflow and NSI they all do them. HTH

but do they have strengthening powder? i really am after a brand which has that, and the only one i know widespread, is acrygel.

Anyone know any others?

Great products don't need a strengthening powder....never heard of that one myself.... for a gel application.

With good prep, application and structure of the finished nail, you shouldn't be having any major issues with your nails....maybe a little investment in a bit of extra training would see you through this.

Mixing products is not a good idea and very likely to result in service breakdown, as in nails lifting, discolouring, breaking down prematurely.

i must admit im more a beautician than a nail tech and i believe they are 2 different careers, but im trying to get better at nails.

its a fact though, as far as strength and durabiity only go, acrylic do a better job? therefore adding the strengthening powder you get the one major benefit of acrylic added to gel?

i think you can use less gel and get a stronger enhancement with a gel/powder like acrygel, le chat etc than you can with an ordinary soak off gel in my opion, i havnt used a buff off gel but apparently it is VERY strong but they dont usually soak hth

Where did you get this "fact" from? You'll find most techs here don't use a "strengthening powder", and it's not something that's available in the known brands.

Actually read what i wrote before commenting please (pet hate)

Le Chat's Powder Gel system is brilliant... they have quite a unique and affordable range. LeChat UK - Nail Care Products

Thanks, ill have a look at that range, is it a soak off gel? Never actually used a powder gel, do you use it then? how does it work for you?

I could end up spendimg a fortune, as they all claim to do brilliant!
Thought i had cracked it with my brand, but im not so sure now. :irked:

I did read what you wrote. You said it was "proven" and "fact", but there is no mention of any research. Fact is the most respected companies do not use a powder with their gel. I'm not trying to be argumentitive, just point out the facts.

Ok hun, then i think you must have read it wrong, i was saying that as far as strength and durabilty only go, acrylic do a better job?

With a question mark so people would argue that fact. In my experience and everyone i have spoken to over the years, they all say the same thing. (Not that i want this to turn into a Acrylic v Gel thread, that would get a few people going i think) So thats why i thought a strengthening powder would give gel the added benefit of acrylic.

Just want to know what people think of Strengthening powder cause i need to get a new range sorted asap, basically just need gel that lasts!!

At the moment im warming to the Acrygel, but i dont have any experience or "tried and tested" knowledge of this.

Thanks

these days gel and l/p acrylic are comparable in strength.

if you'd like to see some nails and tutorials using lechat gel systems, log onto my website and my blogspot.

I understand you are a Beautician 1st and nails is something you are improving your skills on but I would wait until the Fall shows, go and see as many companies as you can, hear what they have to say and make your mind up later.
A soak off gel is a nice entry to the industry for a beatician but if you want to move on you probably need more information on enhancing nails. I dont really rate powder gels as why do you need to mess about if you have a good system? Products have come along way over the years and gels have never been stronger. Do your homework and invest in a decent system that you and your clients will be happy with.

If you take a look at the chemistry of gel & Acrylic you will find that they are the same product just different ways of reaching polimerization......

the strength is all in the structure that you creat...........

Ive decided tonight im guna get rid of my star nails system, does anyone else use star nails systems????

Hello there everybody!
First of all congratulations to you all for this amazing forum!
You honestly solve every problem that I had so far as a nail technician-designer!
I am pretty new to this (the forum, as well as the job- only one year) and the idea of this forum is really fantastic!
However you'll have to pardon my english or any spelling mistakes because english is not my native language!
Here in Greece where I live we have all the products that everybody uses for nail techniques worldwide.
However I had never heard that there is a "strengthening powder".
Is there something about this powder that will help me create better overlays or is it something that it is not used anymore?
Also, I use acrylic powder and liquid from the Millenium company but that's only because the beauty school I attended was using this brand. Do products from other brands (cnd, opi ...etc) really make a difference or is it just talk?
Sorry for my ignorance  but I really believe that you know these matters better that me!
ok I stop talking now lol!
kisses to every one!:wink2:
