Im soooo pleased i wasn't the only one thinking this. When I seen the thread I thought you were deciding between doing a business where you iron peoples clothes for them or becoming a self employed nail tec. I would NEVER even consider doing this, it's mega unprofessional! If you cant carry what you need to carry to be a professional mobile therapist you should consider setting up in a beauty room.
I used to do mobile work and i struggled to carry what i needed and sometimes i ended up with a bad back because of it but that is the game your in if your mobile.
At the end of the day if you have a business and want to make a success of it then you have a reputation to upkeep and personally if a mobile therapist came to me and asked me to set up an ironing board to work from I'd be showing her the door as i'd assume the rest of her work would be as unprofessional as her set up and i'd be having a good laugh at it with my mates as well so your reputatation would be shot in no time
Please for the sake of your business and reputation invest in a small manicure station that folds away neatly into your car, they aren't very expensive and are well worth it if you want to be considered as a professional nail tec with a good reputation.
Sorry if i have offended anyone by posting this but i am only trying to help and think alot of people on here will agree with me
I thought this too ..... but just for fun, get out your ironing board.
It's a great width, quite stable and height adjustable for any chair (or do you take chairs too).
If you are pretentious enough to worry about a desk, you should be pretentious enough to care about chairs too. Hope you have the chairs in the boot too, or your comments are nul and void.
By the time you have setup your steamer, bed, sink, products, chairs and table and unpacked your attitude. I have already earned 50 bucks.
I think clients will appreciate your tenacity and practicality.
One of the differences between me and other techs that may or not be mobile is .... I am single, I am responsible for all my income and all my outgoings, nails are not a hobby, I'm not a housewife technician, my income as a sole technician and businessman feeds me, they clothe me, they pay every bill I have with no outside influence or support from a partner.
When you are in this situation you want to do as many clients in as little time as possible, every minute should be allocated as earning time and any time wasted or not working is a liability.
Setup time is a liability and I bet you don't charge for setup time, petrol and travelling time, then add your service fee ontop, you should be charging per minute (which includes travelling time, setup time) etc, (plus petrol if mobile) otherwise you are fooling yourself as to your value.
It's not a permanent solution, but will get you by in a fix (one less thing to carry and setup).
Hell, I just dragged one out of the garbage after reading this post and I have been doing nails for almost 25 years.
You have to realise and acknowledge a good idea when you see one.
