i'm booked in for Minx training in 2 weeks at Creative Academy but now wonder if I've made the right decision in investing in Minx. I made the mistake of trawling the internet tonight for Minx reviews to find people complaining that they don't last (I've decided I will apply shellac base and TC over for longevity). Some salons are selling all their Minx stock and equipment off as they've decided to remove the service, (no reasons why mentioned though)

i know if someone complains they'll tell 10 people, whereas a satisfied customer tells 1 person but I'm worried now about shelling out for something that's had it's day.

can anyone put my mind at rest before I put my S2 order in?

Hiya,

I have to admit that I was beginning to wonder the same thing!
I did my Minx course back in February, I then listed it on my website, price lists, Facebook ads etc etc.......I have not had ONE booking for it or even an enquiry.

I bought about 20 different designs when I did the Minx course, and bought all the right equipment etc.....I now feel it was a total waste of money, sadly.
I don't want to put you off, because the course is great, so if you feel you want to do it, then do!
Just maybe do a little research in your area about the popularity of it, and don't buy too many designs to begin with!
HTH's! :green:

I am wondering the same thing too. I really fancy doing the course but I personally don't know anybody who gets minx these days seems to be all about the shellac/gelish!

I have to say I've done maybe 10 sets of minx over the last year or so there's just no demand for it in my area and mostly on toes I've only used it on fingers twice as part of nail art using one foil but it's nice to be able to offer it I just think people prefer shellac and since rockstars they seem to want that instead. I spent a lot on the kit starting up and update my designs frequently but sadly no takers which is a shame when they have some really lovely designs!

Have you not seen all of the Minx on the Olympic competitors nails ?
Even if this nail fashion had been on the wane it is now right back up there, and with a great way of marketing it too !

I hardly do any Minx, I only offer on toes as it doesn't last long on fingers. I have got loads of designs left and wouldn't order anymore. I don't know if it's still the case but when I bought them you didn't have to do training. They just sent me a how to leaflet and a link to watch a demo

I hate to say this but I don't have much call for it either - sadly.

I've found it lasts well on finger and toes, recently had a Food Technology teacher who went nearly 3 weeks with her Minx on her fingers although I had put a Shellac top coat on.

I have recently put lots of photos on my facebook page and I have plenty of "likes" but just not many bookings. I find it weird, it's a fab service, amazing designs and lasts brilliantly on toes - you couldn't get better value for money really. I'm at a loss.

I did my training in June & have done about 3 clients but also have done a Minx party with 7 people & have 2 more parties booked in. I think the parties ate the way forward for Minx x

I was thinking of adding this treatment to my list, however after asking my clients on fb and followers on twitter I have only had 1 person who was keen on booking.
I have 2 nieces who have asked for this over the summer as a little treat I brought some cheaper packs to have a play and try out.
I was hoping as I live in a very popular student area I would have lots of people keen.

Maybe the party's are the way forward :) xx

It's strange, I went on S2's website, selected the kit, went thru checkout and was about to complete the transaction when, (and it's hard to explain without sounding a bit weird) i had a feeling that told me to hold off a while...... :-(

I don't think it's had it's day, well not where I am. When I Minx, I put photo's on my FB page and try and Tag the client. All their friends then see it, which promotes it even more.

Keep the excitement going, share any Minx stories from their page on yours etc etc.

I think it is dyeing out but minx, trendys all wraps are the thing that lasts the longest on my fingers ,i have the most oily bendy thin nails also washing hair all the time ,i get anything from 10 days to 3 wks :-D

Minx is a very big part of our service ... Approximately 20% ... And we have a very good salon business.

You might as well ask the question, "is polish a popular service?". You may not do it all the time, but you wouldn't be without it would you?

I think anyone who is really in the nail business would be crazy not to offer Minx but of course, it will be as popular as YOU make it. I know we would not be without it.

I make all my business decisions on what I myself can do with a product, not on how others may be failing at using it. To me all that means is that they are the ones failing ! It doesn't mean that Minx is less popular, it means that they are failing to market it to their clients.

Marketing is not putting a menue up on FaceBook and expecting people to rush in and ask about it. We Do our marketing in the salon to our client's who then rave about it to their friends. We wear Minx; we love Minx; we enthuse about Minx; and we sell she'd loads of Minx and so do plenty of others. Minx is as popular as you make it.

I agree, I think there's plenty of life life in it yet, especially as izzidoll mentioned, with the nail presence we've seen on the Olympic athletes!

A lot of it is how its marketed- many heavily market Shellac/ Rockstars now whereas they may have pushed minx more previously.

If you are not excited about your offerings then neither will your clients be, so if you want it to work, you need to make it- wear it, share it, love it yourself and people will see and then want.

From previous threads here, I've always understood minx to be quite seasonal in that is more popular for toes so demand goes up in the summer months when the flip flops and sandals come out. I wonder if this years damp squib of a summer has effected its popularity?

The Olympics nails are good publicity but it is a bit of a shame that the press have been promoting the 'nail porn' team but have not name checked minx so that those coming into the salon know what to ask for....although if they come to us asking for Rebecca adlingtion nails it is our job/chance to educate them!

I definitely think this year's so called British summer has had it's part to play. Appointments are yo-yo(ing) for me at the moment.

To the those that think that Minx doesn't last I removed a set from a clients toes earlier this week that had been on for 7 weeks , yes 7weeks  They where in perfect condition - the client just wanted a change of design. No top coat used just Minx by its self .

My own Minx fingers I have had on for 8 days and they are perfect too - I do have shellac topcoat on though on my fingers . More to protect my Minx from being caught and scratched when im filing etc xx

I have clients who have Minx according to the seasons/social events, and those that have Minx all year round. It's still very popular. I too tag clients on facebook and gain alot of new Minx clients this way. As for people complaining they don't last, i have never had this problem. But i also give my clients realistic expectations and only if they follow the aftercare advice.

I've never had a problem with longevity either, from day one.

I always make sure I am wearing Minx on my toes and that they can be seen. It opens up conversation and I always make sure the client knows how long I have had them on.
I have Swarovski's on at the moment though, as I am promoting them. As soon as I am sure to remove these I will go back to wearing Minx.

Another thing that has started happening is that clients ask me what my Minx lamp is, as I leave it out :wink2:
Again, this opens up the conversation. This was not deliberate, but is happening!

I think the craze for Minx has died down, especially now that other treatments like Shellac and Crystal pedi's are available, but I certainly dont think its had its day. I get a few enquiries for Minx, but I agree not as many as this time last year. whether thats because the craze has died down and people have moved onto other products, or whether its just this crappy summer and people aren't getting their toes out I dont know. I dont keep Minx in stock any more because I'm not tying money up in designs that may or may not get used, instead when the customer books her Minx, I tell her to look on the Minx website and choose her design so that I can order it in. That way, the only money you've got tied up in it is your lamp which isnt expensive, so it doesnt matter if you dont do many Minx's you havent lost anything tied up in stock. I would never consider withdrawing them from my menu
