Hi everyone I have added some pictures of my room which has been decorated and hopefully improved!! Things are still slow only 3 bookings in a month .I hope things will pick up soon, I have put leaflets in lots of places a lady gym a tanning salon a local fabric shop and have been giving out as I deliver( my part time job delivering parcels) I am also having a website built so I hope this wont take too long as you all seem to say this has brought yoy good buisiness. I want to place an add in a local publication which is for trades in the area but am reluctant to do this till I can put my website on. my leaflets are my price list so everyone can see my prices. Any advice would be great. thanks Geeks ;)

Hi there,

I can't comment on your pricing structure as I'm not familiar with the area you're in and the needs of your business.

But in terms of your salon space I think it's lovely.

The only thing I would suggest is to get yourself a proper nail table. There are some fabulous (and cheap) ones available at IKEA. The fold out card version just isn't doing it for me.

Hi,
Your room looks lovely and very tasteful. I agree with needing a more professional nail table, even if it needs to be a fold away type.
I did notice polishes on one pic in window, ( I suppose that was just for the picture) as it will spoil your polishes if left in direct sunlight.
Is is a dedicated beauty room or is it your living room too?
Either way it doesn't matter, the sofa is nice for clients to sit and wait if they arrive early or to sit and wait while their polish drys, so that you can start another client.
Give it time, you will be surprised calls will start to come in soon.
Best wishes with it, wishing you much sucess.
Lotsa luv x x x x x

Thanks, yes it is a dedicated beauty room, we only ever use it at xmas when we have familly and friends over!! Would you really start another client with one still sitting on the sofa in the same room???

Hiya,
You wouldn't ask that question if it was a high street salon. Many times I have had my nails painted, but the technician didn't want me to leave before my polish was properly dry, usually they make you a nice cuppa and give you a magazine.
Makes for a nice salon atmoshphere.
Or a client could arrive a few minutes early, I always did when I used salons, always thought it more polite to be early rather than late. So again, give her a coffee and tell her you will be with her shortly and thank her for being early.
Keeps the flow when you get established.
As you only use the rom at Christmas, then a nice permanent nail desk would set it off lovely, then you can just wheel it out when you are using the room for guests.
Your room is such a lovely size, mine has everything in, but no sofa or room for a waiting client, so I have to leave a 30 minute gap, just in case one is early or one has arived late and thows my times out.
I really hope this goes well for you, you have worked so hard on the room, it is really lovely.
Best wishes

Hi the sofa is in the same room so would you have a waiting client in the same room?? Mayebe this would be ok if the other client was having nails done but anything else wouldnt be good would it?

I don't think it looks good, period. The provision of beauty services is largely a private, not communal, affair. By all means, have a waiting area outside - for example, a friend of mine has a patio with a side entrance where she invites clients to sit with a magazine etc.

In a salon you have the space to give someone a cup of tea while she dries while you take another client into your beauty room. But you don't have that.

I don't think whether you're in a high street salon or home business should make a difference. You either decide you're professional or you cut corners. Both decisions impact on your business irrespective of where you are.

i agree with velveteen. if I came to your house for a massage and somebody was sat there letting their nails dry- i would not be impressed. and also i think that if i was the person letting my nails dry, i would feel uncomfortable if another persons treatment was started whilst i was in the room, and like i was in the way.

your salon room looks lovely though! well done

The crossing over of clients won't be a problem at the moment, as you have said you have only just started.
Maybe you are lucky enough to have another area you are happy to let clients wait.
If not then you will need to structure into your diary gaps between clients for when you do get busy. I leave 30 minutes. But that is my preference and it works for me.
We have all had the late comers.
Or the client who books for an infill and really needs a rebalance or a soak off and a full new set. You would have then to decide whether to re shedule that client or look and see if you can do it by giving yourself gap times between clients.
So if you ever get back to back with clients you need to decide how you want to do your bookings.
Yes I agree, defo No No for waxing client or massage client to have some one else come into private salon space.
But I have often had friends arrive together and one is happy to wait for the other.
It is all down to you, your business, your decission.
Very best wishes for your future business.
Lotsa luv x x x x

Hi Wishes,
I think you have tried to take on board previous comments and done a smashing job. However this would be my advice.
I think you need to get a professional trolly or a larger one as there is no room to keep your spatulas, wax strips, pot and all the other things needed, inc tweezers etc.To have to root through those drawers to find things is just not practical.

I think you need to do some serious advertising, have you got an A board outside your home(in the drive or front garden?) advertising to passers by is a good one.List some of your treatments on it as I have done.

Place an advert in a local magazine or paper,I have just have another one go out and had 2 calls this morning and this is my day off.So it really does help.I dont work from home but I bring my appointment book home with me every day and carry my work mobile phone everywhere with me.

The nail desk has to go(as already mentioned)why not get a polish stand on your desk, easier to clean and looks much better and more professional. You dont have to spend an arm and a leg on a nail desk,I got a normal desk which has shelves on the end where I keep my rolled up towels.Have a look at my pics if you like to give you some ideas.

Hth a little.x

Glad to see the TV has gone :) I do think it looks nice but do agree with some of the other comments about polish stand etc.

Personally I don't like the sofa being in there but thats just my opinion.

Exactly how many leaflets have you distributed ? 500, 1000, 2000 ??? If your just leaving them in places like gyms, hair salons you are relying on someone being interested enough to pick them up if you are doing a big leaflet drop in the area you live people are actually going to have to look at them as they are coming through the front door.

Im sure once the website is done you will notice an increase in bookings.
