Hi.

A debate ensued on the plane en route from a weekend away today

In your professional opinion(s) what colour clothing do people / should we wear to best show off our newly acquired tans?

The choices are: Black or White.

Thanks everyone!!

White all the way :)

You want to make your tan appear as dark as possible. White is the lightest colour you can get, therefore your tan will have maximum contrast against it, and will appear significantly darker than your white clothing.

Whereas black is the darkest colour you can get, so your tan will always look lighter than your clothing.

So it makes sense to wear clothing that's a lighter colour than your tan, and you can't get lighter than white, especially if you wash your clothes with washing powder/liquid in that contains optical brighteners that make them look even lighter (especially in the sun where there's a lot of UV light around)...

Is the point you are proving about tans and black and white or salon geeks are so sad they will answer the most banal threads :D
Bet we can make them interesting though.Look at Ruth bringing in the washing powder theory thats the scientist coming out in her.

White for me too.
Oh Ruth trust you Hunnie to get so technical, we can always rely on you for a good read. We just love you. x x x x x

LOL, thank you Poshfloss :)

The eye (and the way the brain interprets images) is all about contrast though...

Here's a classic optical illusion that will show you that white is best for showing off your tan...

The central square on top (dark brown) and the central square on the front side (light orange) are actually the same colour... and the brown sure looks a lot darker against that white :)

And then theres Simon Cowels teeth.

And Collins legs against Brittas now.
