In 2007, the 'artist' Guillermo Vargas Habacuc, took a dog from the street, tied him to a rope in an art gallery and began starving him to death.

For several days, the 'artist' and the visitors of the exhibition watched, emotionless, the shameful 'masterpiece' based on the dog's agony, until eventually he died.

Does THIS sound like art to you?

But this is not all... the prestigious Visual Arts Biennial of Central America decided that the 'installation' WAS actually art, so Guillermo Vargas Habacuc has been invited to repeat his cruel action for the Biennial of 2008.

Let's STOP HIM!!!!!

thats disgusting:mad:

I am just so heartbroken and disgusted by this I just cannot put it into words!

Thats terrible although Googling produced mixed verdicts on what really happened or his motives. Some say he was testing public reaction, others say he was raising awareness for thousands of stray starving dogs in his home country and city which no one cares about and that this raised the awareness. The gallery says the dog was not always tied up and the artist did feed it until the dog escapes (not difficult to believe considering it was a stray and may always have been).

I'm not saying its right though. Poor dog, it looks from pictures like it might already have starved as a stray for a very long time.

Hi, Yes I have signed the petition already and posted on my brothers mixed martial arts web site. The response was huge and all members have signed. Totally disgusting to do this. I am apalled at the amount of animal cruelty that goes on. :irked:

I have signed the petition......but..........dont kill me now guys................

Have you read his blog? I honestly think he has used his power as an artist to portray the terrible conditions these stray dogs live in. He says in his blog about how many stray dogs there are, all in a similar condition to this dog, all basically counting the days till they die. These dogs all live in his home town.

Dont think for 1 minute I am condoning this or granting it a masterpiece or art work of any form.

This Dog was going to die, simple as that, a vet examined it and gave the diagnosis, that if this dog were to be brought into a surgery it would be put down.

This man didnt starve the dog or beat it, he simply highlighted the plight of hundreds of dogs like it!

I do think its vile that people have paid to go in and see this poor dog dying, but maybe, just maybe, the shock value in this will make a change?

As I said please dont jump on me, just maybe try to understand my point?

xxxxx:hug:

signed it...............

these people call themselves human - i think "they" are the aminals

its bloody disgusting how some people can be so cruel to an animal and think nothing of it.

OMG that is so cruel. I am just about to sign the petition now. Lets get another one going to tie this horrible artist up and see how he likes it, without food or water.

You only have to look at my avatar to realize i have signed....sick ...sick and SICK AGAIN.

I think he did do it, but not as reported. The dog was not starved to death, it was already starving and ill because it was one of that countries millions of strays. It sounds like the dog was tied up but it was also fed and given water while it was there.

He says he wanted to highlight the situation with the strays and it seems to me it worked!

It was a hoax, but by doing this he has got the reaction he wanted as everyone was horrified by it.

Lets face it, if it's not where we live or anything we feel we can do anything about, then we do tend to bury our heads in the sand.

I don't condone what was done, but the relevant response was achieved. I have signed despite the hoax, maybe we can stop anything like this being done.

The thing is, what did he do? Take an already starving dog off the street and feed it, even if the dog was restrained it is clearly alseep in some of the pictures so perhaps not stressed either. For the dog maybe was almost a relief not to be chased and lashed out at when it took something to eat.

I agree Min, what people should really be shocked by is the plight these animals suffer on the streets, all that bloke has done is highlight the issue!

surely if it was a hoax and the dog was already dying it should just have been put down to stop its suffering? ive signed anyway as anything to stop animal cruelty

I have signed the petition.

From what I've read, there is no proof that this was a hoax, and a lot of uncertainty as to what actually happened to the poor dog.

I find it difficult to believe that the dog managed to escape during the night, when I assume the gallery would have been locked ? Even if he did manage to get loose from the rope, how did he get out ?

Yes, the dog may have been starving on the street, but does that give them the right to deliberately deny the dog food and water if that is what's happened ?

If the dog was on the street, he might have been able to get to water and some form of food. In the gallery, he wasn't given that option if they did what the petition claim they did.

We can only hope that the artists intentions were good and that he didn't actually starve this poor dog to death..... but stranger this have happened in the name of art, so I wouldn't put it past him either.....

My opinion now will be the last I add to this thread, the dog WAS given water and '*** bits' of food, probably more than what he could scavange for himself on the streets, the dog was dying and lived out his final days in a more pleasant environment to what he was used to!

I agree that this shouldnt have been used as 'art', as 'art' is not what this is! But the dog was used to highlight a bad situation. Agreed, there are better ways and means of going about highlighting such issues.
