I have just taken a job in a department store and am having to work christmas eve and boxing day. I am regretting it already!! The store is opening till 10pm on the run up till christmas and managers were issued a list of tips on how we can keep ourselves and our staff safe when we leave work at this time and have to make our way through manchester city centre. So they know there is a risk, but hey ho as long as they are making money what do they care.
Isn't that why we all work the hours we do ? To make money? Isn't that why we all work period? I can't imagine anyone working in a department store could expect NOT to work Xmas eve and Boxing Day ... It's the name of the game this time of year .... The only difference is that when you are your own boss you have a choice.
Unfortunately when you commit to work for someone else you loose the freedom of having that choice. in your case it is your choice to put yourself under their rules where the hours are set by the department store. It doesn't make them greedy uncaring materialistic swines ... They are running a business to make money and service the consumer, just like we do.
