SME Customer Excellence Award nomination?

Apparently I've been nominated for this in the Beauty salon catagory and apparently as I'm the only one to be nominated in my region, I'm almost certainly going to win?
I would ofcourse be chuffed, but I need to pay about £63 for the nomination pack...

Does anyone know anything about this? too good to be true? is it a scam? can anyone who is willing to pay be nominated/ win? or is this kind of publicity boost worth the investment? do they have any credibility?...

I think it is a scam but you do get a certificate etc so in a way they are selling a product. They contacted us with the same story a couple of years ago and when they mentioned the charge i said i wasn't interested. They then went on to contact another local salon who went ahead with it and paid-up and got the certificate etc.

I imagine that they work their way through salons in one area till someone pays. There is no nomination process so can't see that is is genuine.

This has been going on for a while and I read a discussion on it either on here or another forum.

It is a scam as such, but you do get a lovely certificate to display and your clients will not know anything different.

My friend displayed her's with pride and I didn't have the heart to tell her about what I had read.

Surely for the money you can make your own "fake" certificate! If no one is competing against you it's not really award winning! :lol:

I'll print you up a certificate stating you've actually won the award this year for only £300 quid. I'll supply a frame, paper, ink, string and glass and everything. Congratulations! You're the best! x

. . . but in all seriousness, preying on people like this is rather disgusting. I didn't fall for it when they rang, but clearly some people do. Tell everyone you know it's not for real!

we got called about this too! my business colleague was outraged and tore strips off them, it was very funny. I wish i had recorded the conversation now for you all.

OH MY GOD!
I just got a couple of phone calls from this company "Customer Association" today.
I was so shocked I came on here to tell you all about it, but did a search first which is how I found this thread!
Anyway I got a call this morning from a lady saying that I had been nominated for this award by a client etc etc, after a brief conversation I asked how much this would cost me, she tried to fob me off but I was persistant, she said £63 & someone would call me back later. A while ago I recieved another phone call from someone else saying the same "a client had put me foward blah blah" I said "can you give me the clients name so I can confirm this is one of my clients, as you could be making this up!", of which they wouldnt, saying I have to pay £63 for the pack etc. I said thanks but no thanks THEN SHE HUNG UP ON ME!!
I am fuming, & had to tell you all about it, I managed to get the number from the lady 020 339 72008 and phoned up and complained! How rude!
I did also say that I have been in the industry and this is the first time I have heard from this company or anything similar. (to which they said the company had been going approx 80 years) Since having a website I have got quite a few phone calls and emails from companys all wanting money for one thing or another!
Sorry for the essay - just glad this thread is going hopefully everyone will read it.
