Has anyone had a client that just won't tan?
I have a client who just won't tan!!!
I started with Sienna 8.5% as she is fair the result was she went very patchy where the tan took but on areas it just washed off.
I tried tantrick tandare 10% this tanned her slightly but not enough to notice it was very even tho, so the next time I sprayed her I upped the percentage to 14% with the booster drops
The next day the tan hardly noticed again.
I tried LA Tan 10% as this went on it resembled a dirty colour
the next day she came and just looked like she needed a wash with orange patches.
I am pulling my hair out and don't know what to do next as all my other tans are great!!!
my client has fair skin and just wants to be brown
can anyone help???

How does she tan in the Sun?

Unfortunately there are a small minority of individuals who simply don't tan either with a sunless solution and or UV exposure.

For the record if you don't tan through a sunless solution process doesn't mean you wont tan with UV and vise versa as the tanning processes are completely different.

If this customer wont tan its going to be a tough cookie to crack...im not convinced that upping the DHA % is going to do the trick for her and you do face the danger if she is fair skinned in causing DHA overload..if not to the entire body but possible a patchy outcome.

It may well be worth taking a more softly softly approach and coming in from the angle of less is more if used consistently each day.
You could therefore try a daily application of a moisturiser fortified with DHA...not the crap you buy from Boots with 1% DHA ...try sourcing a product from your existing provider where up to a 6% DHA concentrate is present.

Not guaranteed to work but well worth a shot as I can fully sympathise with your client who simply wants a tan and from your perspective as a therapist who simply wants to give her what she wants

Give it a try and do let us know how you get on

Are you sure she is following the pre care correctly? She is not using anything on her skin before you spray her?

Had a simular situation a while back, she was almost see through!!, tried everything i could think of with upping DHA etc, in the end i got her to come back every other day for 3 days and used less product to build u the colour and retailed a moisturiser with DHA to apply also it seemed to do the trick but still couldnt get her to the colour she would have liked, but at least she had some colour and no orange patches. HTH x

I think there is one in a thousand that tan's don't take to certain skins.

This is definitely to way to go me thinks...less is more and over a sustained period of time to build the tan up slowly

Hi thanks for all your replies
I'll try the gradual approach maybe thats the best option
I know she is following all the prep and after care
I can see the difference in her skin but it's not like a tan just slightly peachy an nice glow but this is not what she wants!!
she doesn't want to be orange just slightly browner than she has been

Hi Suzy, could she be pregnant?? or taking any medication u may not know about?? I dont know how well you know her but, its a possibility as I have known it not to take on individuals taking certain meds.
Minefield this tanning ah!!

Hi Steve she def isn't pregnant I checked this
when I sprayed her the first time she was so I just thought this was the problem!!
She had her baby about 12 weeks ago so I would of thought her hormone levels should of settled by now

my b/f is just as frustrating, and he is meant to be my main guinea pig !the very first time i sprayed him he looked amazing but since then nothing takes to him huge patches are white, i mean like the whole of his arms, his face only lasts one day and he always has these circular patches as if i have sprayed him with sunglasses on, the other bits are a bit yellow and then he will have a few patches where the colour just lingers for weeks no matter how much she scrubs... he has now been demoted from main guinea pig status ! lol

In a lot of cases 12wks should be ok for hormone levels, but I was told to wait 6mths after having my last baby before having a smear test (sorry TMI :o ) as the pregnancy hormones can still be present .

Anyway, this may still be an issue x
