Hi Geeks,

Need your opinion. My sister is getting married in 6 weeks and I am one of the bridesmaids. Now she hasnt picked the most flattering of colours for the dresses and I was thinking of either going on a few sunbeds to get a little lbit of colour beforehand (ive used them before and was fine on them) or to have a spray tan. I suffer from dry skin and wondered if it would come out patchy (even when I exfoliate and moisturise I still get dry spots) and If I did decide to go for a spray tan when would be the best time to do it? Would they day before be too close?

Cant be looking pasty in a green dress lol :Grope:

Ooooh this will set off a big debate on what's safe and what's not im sure:eek:.I personally would not go on a sunbed for health reasons(please dont shoot me down, this is my opinion)You may have been fine using a sun bed but long term use can cause cancer and it's also very ageing as it thickens the skin and makes it leathery. This doesn't happen overnight but if used excessively will/can happen.
I would go for a spray tan,i.e LA TAN.Which I love and have recently trained in or for a more luxurious pampering tan a hands on which would also consist of exfoliation and moisturising of the whole body(helping you with the dry areas)St Tropez do a lovely one.
I would try a tan of your choice anout a month before the wedding to see what you think of the colour etc then you can book in probably about 2 days before the big day.HTH

I'm with Babs on the spray tan thing ( not LA tan bit of course lol)
Spray tan solutions have moved on the last few years and cater for dry skins etc. My suggestion would be to go for a trial at a salon with a good rep and go from there. Go for a light tone though because you an look too tanned the wedding pics!!

I think BABSann is right...big debate! lol
You will probably shoot me down too but sun beds are BAD!!! I cant see anyone on here recommending you to have one.

I'm agreeing with the above posts. Try a spray tan out before the wedding and see what you think xxx

It gets jolly heated when we have this debate, but I'm another one who doesn't do sunbeds. I used to be a theatre sister and we spent two days a week excising melanomas off people who had overused sunbeds. I'm not talking about the odd one here or there, but those who used them regularly.

I also wouldn't use sunbeds - I used to be borderline addicted to them and they've ruined my skin.

Spray tanning doesn't suit everybody and others don't like, or are not allowed to use sunbeds. Why not try a spray tan now and see how it turns out on you. If your unhappy with the spray tan result you could have a few sunbed sessions from a reputable salon (as long as you are suitable for UV exposure):)

Spray tan, enough said!

It seems fairly one sided but I also agree with all the above. Try out the spray tan first:)

I would beg you not to use a sunbed. I have had two melanomas in nine years and I do not and never have abused sun beds. I used them for a short period before I got married. I have never burnt, always used sun cream and it happened to me. I have olive skin, not pale.

Please have a spray tan.

Ok ladies Im going to give the spray tan a go. Have any of you ladies got any advice how I can get rid of the dry skin especially on my elbows, nose knees, ankles and heels? i exfoliate and moisturise and they are still very dry. This will be my first spray so any advice to prepare beforehand (when is it best to moisturise before? do I need to wear dark clothing? is it best to wear flip flops when i get it done?? Sorry for all the questions just want to make sure that I do everything I need to to get the best possible spray tan.

Thanks again for all the advice xxx

A good choice! You definately need to exfoliate thoroughly beforehand and I would have a trial one done a couple of weeks before so you are perfectly comfortable with the outcome. Dont go too dark. Think about how your skin behaves in the sun naturally, do you go red, do you tan eventually etc. If you brown up easily in the sun then you can go darker if you burn stick to a light colour and this will help with the fade as well. Generally you wouldn't moisturise on the day of your spray tan session but if you are really worried about any really dry patches speak to the therapist. I personally always lightly moisturise my shins as I have very dry skin here before I spray my legs and they still come out brown and it does help with the fade.

Given your concerns it may be a good idea to go down to your local salon...ask all these questions and they will no doubt give you good advice on what they would reccomend you do before your spray tan application.

Most certainly get a spray tan as soon as you can so your no longer a first timer...this way you can also iron out any issues with your theropist on the tan outcome well in advance of the big day ....consider it a test run for that special day.

HTH:hug:

i provide sunbeds and spray tan in my salon and sunbeds are still 95% more popular than spray tan. you cant compaire the 2. they are completely different. i personally wouldntn want my spray tanned skin rubbing of on my expensive dress so id never have a spray tan for an important occasion. its too risky. iv ruined white tops befor now. i dont advice spray tans for weddings as no way is the brides dress going to be the same colour by the end of the day and there is a good chance that the stains will be permenant.

try out the fake bake gradual tan, its a lovely streak free colour.

Im going out on a limb here to say i prefer sunbeds, the reason for this is at xmas i decided to put on some fake bake gold and i made the BIG mistake of not doing a patch test. I ended up in hospital on xmas nite and was given steroids as im allergic to the DHA's in fake tan, i can't even use the gradual tans. So be carefull and make sure you do a patch test (im sure the person spraying you will advise you anyway.)

Over here (Australia), you can't use a sunbed unless you're 18 and there's a push to have them banned outright. This is because a sunbed is not safe and has been clinically proven to increase your chances of cancer by 75%.

But smoking is bad for you too and people do that so I guess it's a case of buyer beware.

If a tan is properly applied and it's of good quality, then it shouldn't smudge and stain clothing. And the shades one can achieve nowadays are a far cry from the orange hues of yesteryear.

But my question is, what type of green is the dress? The reason I ask is because white skin actually looks dazzling against greens and a tanned alternative can look very overdone.

The dress is a olive green colour - even why I tried it on the lady in the shop siad the colour always looks a bit better with just a slight tan. I dont want to be a bronzed godess just want a hint of colour. Always feel better with a slight tan and everyone always compliments me when I have a tan x
