In french there is an expression

Does a Primary School Teacher have a specific subject like English or do they briefly icover every subject? (just wondered)
We don't specialise; we have to teach the following subjects:
English, maths, science, history, geography, physical education, religious education, ICT, art, design and technology, citizenship...I think that's it!

I did French from 5 years old Victoria and although my conversation isn't brilliant, I know quite a bit of vocab and it comes in useful during Paris Fashion Week when ordering French Onion Soup and Red Wine (anyway that's another conversation):smack: .
I don't know if it's the same in Quebec, but apparently, the Parisians would prefer you to speak PERFECT French or not at all!!
I always make an effort and try but they always answer me in English (and it's not beacause my accent is not good:!: )... not long ago a lovely model with a Parisian Mama and Austrian Papa told me I'm better off just talking English because the French hate it if you can't speak it perfectly!I would LOVE to know your thoughts on this!!

My partner speaks fluent French, he lived and worked over there for quite a while and says that the Parisians speak a hell of alot in slang and half of the stuff they come out with even the residents from Southern France dont understand.
I presume its the same as speaking cockney rhyming slang to a Northener. Thats why he doesnt like the Parisians attitude.. he said you are right about them not liking others etc.. (no offence to Parisians of course) :green:

Well I have never had a bad moment in Paris but maybe it is because I am a GIRL. I also speak French when there (although not perfectly and mostly restaurant French). My French has come back very quickly since living in Spain ............ but look I have let my daughter hijack my thread!!! Back to topic if you please.

well I just wanted to say I for one am glad this was brought up ,as I have now downloaded spell check ,
and since following this thread ,I have realised just how bad my spelling ,punctuation ect... really is ! i had no idea.
words I have never even noticed I have been spelling wrong
(ps,please tell me that I did all that right ?)

It was spelt wrong - ect. should be etc.

Well, the Quebec French is ummmm if you'll pardon the term "bastardized".
It's most definately a 'sloppy' language, and understandably so as many of the first French people here were of poor origins with little or no education.
In addition, go to 'Gaspesie" where it's neither English nor French BUT a combination of the two with it's very own accent, 'ta boot', so to speak.
Good luck understanding them!
When on my home turf, I adopt 'their' accent and they don't know that I'm anglophone until either A)they learn my name or B)I slip up or tell them, because I've stumbled on a word.
However, when abroad OR speaking with immigrants who speak 'proper' French, I make every effort to ennunciate and speak it 'properly' and they thank me and tell me my French is beautiful and that Quebec French confuses them.
I guess it's like the English Language. In different places, there are different dialects? For example, the Americans, versus the Canadians, versus the Brits, versus Australians and so on. All of us speak English YET we speak it so very differently.

Tsia, you've learnt that 'etc' is spelt 'etc' and not 'ect'...!! hahahahaha...

Oh - one point I forgot to add:
I HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE TYPE IN PINK - IT IS SO DIFFICULT TO READ! Especially when it is a full 30 line paragraph.
