As part of TPTW (thought provoking thread week) I've got a question for you all...

What part of your enhancement training did you find the hardest to master?

For me it had to be tip blending, I was scared as hell to file the natural nail and hurt my victims (models).

Don't be shy, share yours with us

mine was brush control ... when I converted from gel to L&P, i wanted to poke and now when I use gel, I want to pat it!!

And also, sounds daft but until I was shown it made sense, was holding the abrasive correct, with the thumb and finger

mine was overall shape... i could get them to look great from a birds eye view but when i looked from the side and down the barrel they looked all wrong.......it took me a while to realise that nails are a 3d

ratio - I used to always pick up dry beads or wet beads took ages to get nice medium consistency!!

As i'm re-training in september but before it used to be tip blending.

I feel as though I was 'tested' with each system I trained in to be honest... with fibreglass it was applying enough resin but not too much so as to flood the sidewalls etc... with gel it was applying too much and ending up with a doorstep thick nail :o and with L+P it was zone 3, I still have to watch it now and sometimes find myself applying a bead that too big, especially on the pinky.

Mine has to be infills and lifting. Even today I struggle with lift lines .. I just can't get the angle right to file behind the lift without the whole enhancement being removed with the line moving right down the nail.

The first infill appointment there is usually no lift at all on the majority of clients.. but then the 2nd onwards there is lift on most clients and this is when I stuggle. Its come to a point where I dread getting nail clients that keep up with their maintenance.

I would say cuticle area...
although now I know it was a mixture of ratio, brush control, timing, even bloomin room temperature lol
I couldn't get to grips with it at all...
My product just ran everywhere, either that, oR I ended up with a big set lump, where the nicely flush bead should be.

Due to this...my Infills were a total nightmare....I HATED doing them, as the filing just took me forever,

I remember the first time I ever got a cuticle bead flush to the nail without touching the skin...OMG I WAS SOOOO HAPPY !!!
And my first infill to come back with no lifting was such a breeze to do..
HAPPY DAYS !!!
:green:

for me it was creating perfect and neat cuticle area.. :)

I found zone 1 really hard - I used to pick up too big a bead and end up with too really thick free edges. I also really struggled with getting the points on the corners of smile lines - my white didn't go right to the corners so made my nails look stumpy......

Control to keep the product thin at the sides and zone 3. I know its not my prep as when I get the product spot on in those area's its fine. It's knocking my confidence a bit just now

oooh mine was deffo smile lines  they were horrendus !! all lumpy and hideous looking , haha
thankfully now 5 yrs later they are loads better (should bloomin hope so after this long , lol )

ALL OF THE ABOVE!!! :green: the worst one was lifting and cuticle .

Great thread hun xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Sidewalls and still is, be it product placement, filing, lifting etc.........they are the bain of my life.:irked:

Tip Blending is the worst bit for me, it took me a while to master it and sometimes it still is a problem, air bubbles was another but I have mastered that pretty much now though.

Oh and I somehow ALWAYS end up sticking my fingers together with resin... Its a good job I only do friends/family nails....

Lets hope I am better at L+P than Fibreglass...

Mine were finish filing, god I got carried away with file at times and ended up filing all my work back off! Also infill lines for me too, I was always chasing the line but thank god I have learnt not to(thank's to Gigi and Nailclass) :)

Well firstly it was learning not to dribble when I was concentrating so hard!!!!!! Yep talk about embarassing! :o

Practically I found tip sizing the hardest, always seemed to get them too small, and also trying to get them the same length and shape, or not get adhesive everywhere, or blending them in, or not dropping the box on the floor. In fact why didn't I learn to just sculpt!!!!

 To much product and endless filing, :) got better at that now

 smile lines :) much much better now

 time  still take to long but working on it

understanding that ratio was important.

when i first trained, i was shown 'do it like this' but never had explanations of why to 'do it like this.
so thinking that if i used it wetter i would give myself more working time it seemed like a good idea.

so when i train people now i try to give them an understanding of not just what to do but why to do it.

no one showed me the shape a nail should be in 3d either or the relationship between structure and strength. its so important.

The one thing I struggled with more than anything else was getting my ratio right omg did that cause me so much sleepless nights.
