Hi
Has anyone read this weeks reveal magazine? There's a story about a girl of 9years old gettin bikini waxes.
Ok this sounds over the top but thinking about it, when she's hit her teens she probably won't need to wax as often. The hair might actually stop growing by then. Im in two minds about this story.
Is it good or bad? Any opinions or experiences with this yet?

OMG .. poor girl, having to be waxed "down there" at just 9 yr of age

i guess if she is an early developer, and is self conscious about getting changed in the school changing room etc .. it would help with her self esteem, but if she is having a bikini wax purely for cosmetic reasons then i think its too early and she should wait until she is in her teens

Sorry but that's just ridiculous!
Haven't read the magazine but god why can't we let kids be kids?!!

I read that article at work at lunchtime (I don't buy that kind of trashy mag but I DEVOUR it if someone else does!:)) and according to the piece she didn't have any pubic hair just the general hair that one has as a child (can't rememeber what it is called off the top of my head, mental block!) but she wanted it because she heard about it from some friends. The article claims that it stops pubic hair developing at all after 2-6 waxes  which I find very hard to believe, but I would be very jealous if that were the case cos I hate having bikini waxes! I can't imagine it would be able to stop the hair entirely, I mean the child hasn't hit puberty so surely it can't stop it? But what do I know!

I don't think I would do it myself, even with parental consent and definately not unless the child was adamant that it was what she wanted! It would take a lot of persuading and very unlikely even then. As Blush says though, if she was an early developer and it was embarrassing then that would be different.

Do you mean vellous hair - like the downy hair that everyone's got everywhere? Cos if that's what's getting waxed off then

Interestingly, I noticed in one of my textbooks the other day that it says that waxing doesn't reduce hair growth, it just appears that way due to the different places each hair is in the growth cycle. So I'd love to see how they're backing up the claim that it "stops" pubic hair.

Yes! Thats the one! I knew someone would be able to think of the word! From what I gathered yes that was what they were waxing (quite what the point was is anybody's guess!) Lx

That's child cruelty isn't it? Ridiculous. I can understand if she had really dark lip hair and was being made fun of......but bikini? Crazy. xxx

Can you tell I'm in the middle of doing my waxing training at the min? :green:

Hmmm.
I wonder what the insurance companies have to say about this. I do know that intimate waxing is certainly not covered for clients under 18.

There's a girl at my children's school who's unfortunately developing extremely early at 9 years old, and is even demonstrating the hormonally imbalanced behaviour of a teenager! She is most definitely - if not made fun of - talked about A LOT by the other children. I dread to think what this girl has to put up with during changing for PE - at our school the boys and girls all change together right up to the end of year 6, and she's only in year 4. In a case like hers, and she's very dark-haired so I can imagine her bikini wax needs.

I know it's outrageous for a 9-year-old to have a bikini wax, but so is going through pubescence at such an early age, and in a case like this I think it wouldn't be unreasonable if she requested it and her mum agreed.

Totally agree, 9 years old is way too young even if she is developing early. Kids grow up far too fast, would they let her wear a thong and padded bra too?

I read this and it sickened me to my stomach! I cannot believe that this is allowed! A child of 9 cannot make an informed decision, and it is child abuse, whatever way you look at it! The poor kid cries and her mother has to "comfort" her! Jesus! Sorry for rant but I thinks its disgusting!
I agree, if a child has very dark upper lip and is being teased etc, then bleaching/waxing could be the answer, but still not at 9! As a mother of a 9 year old myself, I am appauled! Let the kids be kids!
Phew, rant over:lol:

Wow that is way too early to be waxed! And it brings to mind what therapist would wax a 9 year old girl? IMO thats careless and unprofessional.

This kind of thing is happening in LA and New York. So it'll only be a matter of time before it heads over here. Apparently the salon the girl goes to doesn't advertise for tween waxing but still has 30 odd clients for it. The girl has had facials, massage and pedicure's too. Whats this world coming to?

I read this too, I was shocked and appalled! I have a 9 year old daughter and the thought of her having a bikini wax sickens me!

The salon makes claims that if the 'virgin hair' is waxed early enough then it will save years of waxing in the future. As far as i was aware when vellus hair is waxed it aggravates the follicle to produce terminal hair, so the poor little girls will probably end up having full pubic hair before they would if it was left alone!

Sick sick sick! what next?! :smack:

I havent read about this case so dont know what she may have been having waxed off.what i do know is if my child had obvious pubic hair sticking out of her knickers at 9 it would be off i see no reason why not other than lets keep them as children..well thats too late if they have early puberty and they are getting teased.Im not talking brazillian ..just a tidy ive seen adolescents with hair sprouting out of their costumes and its not nice or dignified and should be dealt with whatever their ages.
Why should young girls have to have the burden of their hair until we as adults decide its ok for them to remove it.If their armpits etc are hairy and they are embarrased about it let them remove it whats the big deal no matter how old they are.

It is sexualisation of children!
It is a wholly inappropriate activity to put a child through.
If your child has a big bust at an early age, are you going to bind them up or let them have a **** job?
Children are being taught that self-worth is judged on their appearance.
To put a child through that experience beggars belief!
Salon owners performing such treatments for monetary gain as well.
Makes me sick to my stomach and they should be ashamed of themselves!
