HI!
I was just wondering what people thought regarding paper vs material waxing strips? (by paper i mean the paperish type ones, i don't now what they are really called!) I have used material until now, but out here I can only get the paper ones. I went and brought a metre of kalico and cut my own strips but this was a bit of a mission so i am thinking it would just be easier to start using the paper ones? Any opinions on this would be very helpful!!
Also I met a spanish beautician the other day that says she washes her strips and uses them over and over, does anyone else do this?? I never have but she says it saves her loads of money!? Any opinions on this would also be helpful!!
Thanks Geeks !

:) Hi have never washed them:eek: Not sure this would be too hygenic!! But i find the paper ones fab, not all floppy so easy to control.Hth.xx

Hi Hun,
I have used both types, definately prefer the paper type.
Wouldn't dream of washing any type of waxing strip .
Happy Waxing.
Lotsa luv x  x

I like the paper ones best.

I would never re-use a wax strip, doesn't seem hygenic. However i am intrigued as to how on earth you would get the wax off in the first place, lol.

Paper ones for me too. Material ones are too floppy-never got on with them!
How can you wash wax strips? Surely you wouldn't be able to get the wax off!
Whenever i've dropped a bit of wax on a towel. it doesn't wash out.
What is she thinking dirty mare!

paper paper paper! i cannot get along with the material ones, i hate all the little bits that stick to the skin!
As for re using them i would have thought this violated most hygine rules

xx

you can get water soluble wax and sugar wax would wash out.
You could theoretically do them on a very hot wash afterall you reuse towels etc...but can you imagine the state of your washing machine why would you.
I use both paper and muslin. No bits if you open them outside hold onto all corners one at a time and give them a really good shake.

Paper for me. I haven't used the material ones for years and they are so messy with all the bits of cotton sticking to eveything. xxx

material for eyebrows and bikini areas, i prefer them for those parts as they curve well and get into the area really well , and paper for the rest of the body.

Arguably there are those who would advocate non strip wax for bikini and brows - I'm one of them, although I don't use any kind of wax on eyebrows (except for men on the bit between the brows)

I use only large paper strips, and PR rollers. That way I can cover the whole of the front of the leg at once, and I find that I can get a whole 1/2 leg out of one paper strip.
From the client's perspective the calico strips look less appealing than the paper strips because they're not pure white.

I'm a paper girl also. Really don't like the material ones at all! Think you have more control with paper ones and I can't stand how you get bits of material coming off the material ones!

I only use paper strips but my other beautician uses cotton strips and they are pure white.
Can i ask why you don't use wax on eyebrows?

I find that I get much better results plucking, and I've seen too many burns on eyebrows to use it. It took me ages to master waxing eyebrows, but I won't do it anymore. The eye area is very delicate and I worry about the skin being damaged however taut it is held.
I shall be starting a threading course in September as I've had soooo many people ask about it, but I'm not wholly convinced as to its efficacy. Time will tell!

Ooh i know-i hate eyebrows-lol.
I do wax though to get all the vellus hairs and then i pluck cos you can get a better shape plucking.
Tried having a go at threading-think it will take me ages to get the hang of it-lol.
My one hand always wants to do the same as my other hand-not good when you're threading

Wow! So thats Paper 100% Material 0%, think i'll be changing to paper then!! As for the re using of wax strips, I agree it seems unhygenic!! However i've seen worse than than that since i've been here!! when i started at the salon, i melted the hot wax pot and found the girl before me had been using this wax and then putting the wax back in the pot with all the hairs in it so it would melt and could be used again  it was discusting, loads of hair floating around in the wax, even long think mens chest hair:!:
Anyway thanks for your input geeks!
xx

I can happily use both. I always used to find muslin more absorbent but paper strips are better than they used to be - I would say it depends on the quality of what you buy. Waxing the eyebrow area is safe providing temperature checks are made before full application. Threading also has "risks" as with each touch of thread you can pinch the skin. It just takes time to achieve skill and confidence and to apply this to each individual client.:)

I use paper strips. Fabric ones are too flimsy for me.
OMG she washes her strips????? That's disgusting. Got knows how the wax would come off them! They are cheap enough to buy that's just being really penny pushing lol

Hi
I use the fabric strips. I used the paper first and loved it but had to use fabric in the salon as thats wat they used. But love the fabric now, tink it lasts longer than paper because the wax goes through the paper when your half way through a half leg wax.

I use paper and i've never had wax go through the paper.
I do the whole front leg using one strip.
I would think if your wax is coming through then you are using too much wax.
Perron rigot cristal ocean is great for legs as it goes on sooooooo thin :)

I've only recently started using fabric strips and really began to wonder WHO invented them. I have not got the hang of them and really love it.
This is just my personal opinion, but I somehow feel that the fabric strips do not break the hair as much as the paper ones can.
