sorry hair and nail geeks, this is more for skin, beauty and holistic geeks.

Just wondered what short courses you would love to see available?

Anything to do with body art for me, e.g. henna, airbrush tattooing, body painting, etc.

I would like to see more courses available for things like dermal fillers, colonic therapies, and advanced epilation. Possibly laser tattoo removal, semi-perm make up and advanced galvanic therapies, oh and baby massage! x

I'd like a henna short course at college, I found one in manchester a while back which was a few hundred pounds, for henna and threading.. but I lost the leaflet. lol

I guess the important thing with henna would be the health and safety aspects of the course too - which could possibly be a pre-requisite for getting insurance for doing henna body art? Also the importance of using genuine henna and not "black henna" which is toxic. Then once that side of things is covered, I guess the rest of it is up to artistic licence and practice, practice, practice???

Surely none of these should be short courses ?!

Personally I would like to see less short courses and more long ones !

Why is it certain aspects of beauty can be crammed into a day(s) yet things like hairdressing can't be, oh apart from hair extensions which can be done without any prior knowledge of hair, its riduculous !!!!

i agree, but why are you under the impression hair extensions can be done without any prior knowledge of hair?

Yep I agree with you there - there was a time when you had to go to college to be a beauty therapist - now its a just a series of short courses. As long as they do a good job.

Around here you can go to a couple of the whole sales and do a one day course on hair extensions and on the bit that says qualifications required it says nil:eek:

Lets not churn up the same old argument about short courses.

I personally think that short courses should come with a pre-requisite of a swedish massage certificate or a beauty therapy certificate, ie been to college to do a 30 week diploma, before you are let onto short courses.

I think short courses are fab and would resent going to college to do longer ones when they churn over the same old same old.

I have done a 1 day course in henna (tutor was pap and my insurance company won't recognise it). I've also done a 4 day baby massage course.

I haven't done the rest mentioned, but short course doesn't necessarily mean 1 day. I've done 6 day courses before.

Well I actually fancy doing the colonic massage course.

I wouldnt mind teaching a few courses myself but wouldnt know where to start.

hey pazzy
I would like to do that one too. I was gutted when I didn't win the comp that the Guild had.

Perhaps I could ask the trainer to come up here to teach a few of us, what do you reckon?

Does anyone know the pre requisite for this...or more importantly for colonic therapy...as i have nursing qualifications i am not sure if this is enough or not?

Gabi, the colonic massage course is just an abdominal massage so pre-req would be body massage certificate.

colonics, you would be able to do with your training so far, you wouldn't need nursing on top.

basically, if you can afford to the course, they'll take you! they advertise at the back of all the professional magazines, vitality, international therapist, etc.

alternatively, think BSY do a home study one! LOL:eek:

To be honest im not a fan of long courses i tend to go for the short courses and i do think there should be more of them.

I agree with some other ladies that body art would be nice! xx

Oky doky!

course is accredited, will double check who with.

I would also like to see a course on egyptian massage,as this subject fascinates me.I know the movements are long strokes, and uses lymphatic drainage, and can be done on the face hands and feet aswell as the whole body....but have searched and not found anything, well not here in the UK:irked:....i do not really like deep massage personally i prefer therapeutic massage.

Does anybody know of any egyptian massage courses, that require a knowledge of A&P and have some certification in massage?
