Hi i am a complete newbie to nails, i have done a tater course and loved it. So have booked myself onto a proper course but have been told to practice before it starts. What brand should i use being a beginner? On the taster course we used salon system?? is this a good one? What size brush should i use? Any help would be fantastic. I have found a couple of site to buy from but if anyone has any good ones i could get some stuff from. I am doing the acrylic system. Thanks in advance.
PS i LOVE this site lol

Hi there - as a beginner you won't be able to purchase professional products. So therefore you won't actually be able to practice. It is strange that the company you are going to train with would ask you to do this. As L&P is a chemical system it is inadvisable (and dangerous) for you to be using it until fully qualified, or at least part way through your training. You could also cause untold damage to the natural nail. I would go back to the company and tell them this. I would also consider switching to a different company for your training.

Don't be put off though, there are some very good training companies out there. There'll be plenty of suggestions from other Geeks on here. Personally I trained with United Beauty and found their training exceptional, thorough and professional.

I would never recommend that anyone practise before starting a course and I am very surprised that any reputable training provider would recommend that you do so.

What in heavens name would be the point of practising something WRONG before a class only to have to unlearn bad habits and put it right again?? Crazy in my opinion. I wonder what the PROPER course is ... perhaps explain?

I agree - ditch that so-called training company now!!

Get your bum on the computer and research, research, research - there are so many training options out there, and I'd run a mile from one that wanted me to practice before the course started - especially as you wont be able to buy pro products!

Think about what YOU want from your training - ongoing support, advanced classes, fabulous products........you'll take a different view soon I am sure!!

good luck hun x

 Couldn't agree more....thats like a driving instructor telling you to go out in a car and get some pratice in before you have ever driven before

The point of your course is to learn you to "do" nails how on earth can you be expected to do them on your own...
Nobody can really recommend what brush you should use, its an individual thing..
only you can find out really what type of brush you are suited to,
Eg:I love big oval pointed brushes....Carl on here loves his big flattened brush..
Then theres others who prefer a smaller rounded one....etc..

I would reconsider the course you are about to do hun tbh xxx

Scary lol!

But yes, it is like that. It does sound a bit odd to be told to practice. Practice what? Presumably you haven't been shown the correct techniques, hence the course you've booked, so what would there be to practice? Or maybe your taster course was a bit more than a taster, hun, how long was it for? And how long is the course that you've booked and who is it with?

Sorry it looks like we're all coming down like a ton of bricks . . . . it's only cos we care and we don't want you being ripped off hun, honest

Really glad to hear you loved it, anyway . . . . the bug has bitten lol!

The thing is with courses regarding training to be a nail tech, there are sooooooooo many out there whether its genuine or cowboy courses (as I call them) I have read a lot of threads regarding courses and a BIG majority of geeks on here recommend creative or ezflow. My advice is to do a search on here covering course topics, it helped me alot. After searching for over two weeks I made my decision and if it wasn't for all the information and advice from geeks on here I may have ended up on the wrong path also  I agree with the last 2 posts, geeks are here to help, let them help :)

Good luck with what you decide

Step away from this training and don't look back!

No company worth anything would ever tell you to practice doing nails when you haven't got products, any sense of health and safety and certainly because you have never done nails properly before.

The only time you practice is after having some training and obviously during training to practice what has been taught.

I would also go for a better company near to you, either Creative or EZ Flow. They won't be the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. Both of these companies give you excellent products, excellent service and are always there to support you throughout your training and afterwards.

Make a sensible decision and make sure you invest in yourself and your career.

And don't forget we're here to help and support you before, during and after your course xx (let us know what you decide)
