Yup I used Gelish, you do your chosen base colours first, then apply a darker colour (I used Black) then before curing the black you add drops of top coat, it spreads the to reveal you're base colour.

Edit : Another nail tech gave a tip about how to do this technique with Shellac ..

"Shellac can as I've used Young nails tutorial for it, but you could try a different way - base coat cure, Blackpool cure, Blackpool do not cure, then add random dots of say Rubble for instance,Cure and then top coat & cure. You will get the same "spreading" of colours."

I'll have a play on some pops tomorrow and see what I can come up with

Thank you so much for the video I was shown this in class but couldn't get the hang of it so now I can have a play, the second way I was also shown and found easier but I dropped too big of drops ill show u the pic I still like it though lol, I haven't done it since that class though so you've inspired me thanks

Mine at the moment Shellac Limeade with Sliver VIP Status. Was planning on doing mint green but when I put Azure Wish on top of the Limeade it looked really streaky so wiped it off. Quite like this so glad I did now, it's more of a sage green than bright green
