I have recently heard rave reviews about a salon offering brazilians/hollywoods using cold wax without strips and using a 'european technique', apparently it is not sugaring either. The therapists are russian and apparently it is fast and pain free supposedly better than hot wax or warm wax. Has anyone else heard of this?

I haven't heard about them in a professional capacity, but I've seen cold wax strips in the local department store (they didn't work very well), but the "pain free" thing is impossible.... pulling hair out at the root hurts, no matter what method is used.

It sounds like tosh and piffle to me! As Huberella says, pulling hair out at the root is going to hurt.

And you said "fast and pain free", I do a brazilian in 10-15 minutes with hard or strip wax.... Not sure you can get much faster than that.

Hmmm, I just did a little mooching round t'interweb, and look what I found!

OK, not being a beauty geek... at the mo. I have a question, and hope I'm not hijacking this thread but it is linked and therefore seems the perfect place to ask.

Where I occasionally go for a Brazilian, they use a completely different type of wax than any of these and they call it Cold Wax. It doesn't come in pre-formed strips, it comes in trays in cold layers of approx 1cm thick ....looking believe it or not like homemade toffee, but professionally packaged of course.

The therapist is Russian, and has it sent over to her from Russia (i;d read what was on the box, buty its in Russian!). it doesn't require heating, she just pulls a piece off, warms it slightly from the warmth of her hands (yes she wears a glove), kind of flicks and stretches it over the skin and hair and then pulls it back quickly off, doing an area of approx 1 x 3 cm each time, using the same piece of wax each time, until it is 'full of hair', then a new one. I've seen similar methods of using sugaring, but am assured this is wax, and very popular in Russia.

Its very quick...takes approx 3 or 4 seconds to do each small area and a full Brazilian (very deep) done in about 10-15 mins. The results are excellent, the pain is minimal (well...for a bikini wax), and the skin left very soft and hardly any reddening.

Does anyone here know what this is, or if there is an equivalent?

Now, those two ladies in Guildford have foreign sounding names: Lana and Inga. What's the betting that this is the Russian stuff they're using?

'appen!

How interesting.I wonder why its never caught on here it sounds very good.

Calla that is the exact same salon I am talking about - my friend has been having brazilians for years and said they are by far and away the best, the method is exactly as described, a tray under the bed, they scoop some up, warm it in their hands and use the same bit until it is full of hair but it isn't sugar but wax. It is very quick and due to the technique the pain is very minimal - apparently people come from miles to have the treatment - and yes, both the therapists are Russian! I asked about training but they didn't want to know - apparently it is a well guarded and very lucrative secret!! Damn!

This sounds really interesting even though I dont offer intimate waxing I would still be interested to learn more just to be in the know. :)

Just replied to your pm, Helsbels, but yes that is the same salon I referred to in my original comment.

I used to live literally 50yds from it and had my brazilian waxing done there quite regularly. I can promise it was every bit as good as people rave about on the results factor. I'm sure some more folks would have a bit of a pop on the sanitation side, as they do literally roll it about in their hands, but they always washed up first and used Anti-bac.

Sadly, I've now moved to very rural North Wales and I can't find anyone for many miles aorund who does a decent brazilian now.....even with hot wax (the last girl literally burnt and scarred me)...and try as I might, I just cannot succesfully do my own brazilian!

This all sounds very interesting, and sounds like it would be something that would be good for waxing a guys scrotum, as that is the most time consuming and tricky part of male intimate waxing, hope we can hear more about this and how we can get the stuff and the training. regds Philip

Sounds great but it does sounds like sugaring. They're not cheap either but good luck to them.

Philip: Waxing the scrotum can be done very easily with hot wax and without pain afterwards.

Waxing is never pain free, but with a brilliant wax and great technique, we can minimise the pain.

Hey Lyndsay

They're not far from me!.... think I will be booking myself in :green:

Out of interest - you might have said already, sorry if you have -

What did they use to 'clean up' the areas that they waxed?
