Well I did my friends nails today for a training price of £15 - the £15 stayed firmly in my friends pocket and quite rightly so - I had to soak them off it was a disaster!

This was the first time I have done L&P's on someone without them being a nail tech already and so I was so damn nervous from the start. My mobile nail table is on order and so I was hoping that my friend had a kitchen table or seomthing but she just just a lower coffee table so I was on my knees leaning across it which didn't help! Now her nails were very flat which is fine but what I haven't come acroos before is that they nail was very tight against the lateral folds and even with pulling down the lateral folds there wasn't much movement if that makes sense it literally was nail and then lateral fold and no dip inbetween! Zone 1 on 2 fingers when I started filing I found lost the white as I obviously hadn't put enough pressure on - they were just a disaster!

I ended up saoking them off and putting loads of solar oil on them after - thank god I hadn't ruined them and they looked fine after but I have a few other friends booked in and now terrified and confidence has been totally knocked! Took me 4 hours and the poor girl didn't have anything to show for it!

We all have problems when we start,
you will get over them i promise,
firstly if you go to someones house and don't have a suitable table get their ironing board out, you can adjust this to the height you need and have plenty of room for your products,
do use a large towel to cover and protect the ironing board,
as for the lateral folds you have to move that finger around so you have it in a position that is suitable to you for you to work on,
your zone 1 and white you already know the where you went wrong but this is a popular problem when starting out so don't be too hard on yourself,
don't let this knock your confidence we have all been there and had all the problems that you are facing,
you will learn from every mistake that you make and you will be a better nail tech for it

awww hun, domt let this knock your confidence chick, for starters working on your kness across a low table, might mean even the long standing techs, might struggle to turn out a decent set, dont be so hard on yourself babes

can you not get people to come to you while your practising, then at least you know where everything is and that youve got everything set up already and at right height etc, and you might be more relaxed

hths xxxx

this might sound a little silly but if there is no table suitable what about using the iorning board that way you only need one seat for you and you can adjust the hight to suit just a thought for next time as most people have themxxxxxxxxxxx

Dont worry chicken, it sounds like you were working in les than desirable circumstances!! When you say her lateral folds were very tight up to her nail bed, do you mean that she had a square C curve? I have a client with nails like this and I need to use eclipse tips on her. Because her nails dont arch gently, the square side of the nail is tucked right up against the lateral fold, and if this is what you mean, doing such nails with Eclipse tips is so much easier.

Dont let this one set you back, pick up your brush again tomorrow and carry on.

Big hugs for you hun, please don't let it put you of:hug::hug: all the advise given is sound, you'll get there hun honest you will:hug:

It sounds like these nails--and your set-up--were a nightmare, especially for a newbie tech! (but speaking as a seasoned tech, I wouldn't really like doing them, either!) Don't be so hard on yourself.

dont be hard on yourself you will get better. pratice practise practise :green:

'chelle I used eclipse tips on her.

Have been beating myself up all day about this and have two 14 hour shifts ahead tomrrow and the day after so no chance on these days to practice! My next victim is a fellow Geek who is being my model for me for my Day 5 at CND so I am doing her nails 2 weeks before - at least if I am going horribley wrong she will be able to point me in the right direction but so damn nervous - that same day I do these on her I am booked for a training price Spa Mani & Pedi and was quite excited about Manis & Pedi's but now totally terrified!

How weird! The first full set I did was on a coffee table as well!

Why not have a go with white tips first then you can work on bead placement and things? Once you're happy with that you can then go on to making your own whites?

Or a really good plan is to do a natural tip and overlay and then paint? That way you get to see how good you are with your line of light and the smoothness?

Don't beat yourself up, even techs that have been at it for years still have the odd total disaster when trying something new xxx

What is it with coffee tables, I did my first mobile job on a coffee table oouuchh

Never again .....

MrsR dont let it knock your confidence, it went wrong and you put it right the only way you felt you could.... thats good experience for a beginner xx

Don't worry at all. When you first start out there will be disaster sets, glueing yourself to things and probably some spillages. We all have gone through it.

The main point is that you do what you have done which is see where you went wrong and give it another try. It is just a case of practise.

Mrs R

Chill! You will be fine - we all started somewhere and some of us are still trying to get there! I have nothing special planned for after my appt so don't worry. My nail table will be set up for you, so you will only need your products! I promise to supply loads of hot coffee (and cakes if i can get to shop!)

I am not expecting miracles - just here to be a guinea pig!

And you will have a lovely tan to boot!

Awwwwww thanks everyone I really appreciate it and especially thats Jules as its made me extra nervous for doing your nails this week.

I have a male pedicure booked for Saturday and a L&P Sunday both training price but have really tried hard not to cancel and have been tempted but think if I don't do it now after my disaster I never will.

Everyone has a disaster the first time they start i still have minor disasters even now! the best thing is not to panic!! the first time i did l&p it took me 25 minutes to do 1 finger!! :irked::irked: pick up your brush and practice practice practice!! xx:)

hun, dont worry one bit about your pedi's, you will be spot on with them, its man so I'm assuming he doesnt want his toenails painted (or does he??), and you dont have the same stresses as mix ratio and bead placement etc.

Dont worry, and dont leave it too long before you pick your brush up again, the longer you leave it, you will build it up into a big deal. Pick yourself up, dust yourself down, and carry on hun!

Same here. Everyday is a new day with different challenges with nails no matter how long you do them. Try not to get disheartened:hug:

Mrs R, please dont let this experience put you off. We all have bad experiences, even the best techs have them. Use this experience and learn from it.

You will be fine and practice as much as possible.

Good luck hun, you will get there in the end and remember we have all been there as well.

xxxxx
