Got a call from a man who asked if i did back sack and crack waxing. I said no not at the min but i would look into it, he said i could show you how to do it thats not a problem, i said i really coudnt do it as it would void my insurance if anything was to go wrong he said would sign a disclaimer. He went on to say that he cant find anyone in our area that does it and as to travel about 25mile to nottingham's keith hall salon to a girl who also didnt no how to do it but he told her how, he said it costs him £40 every month plus getting there it works out expensive. he said just out of intrest how much is it for the lady waxing ? i said about £30 i thinks the average price i think. he asked how much i would charge for the male waxing ? about the same really £30.00 . i said i would look into to training and he said something about how do you get clients to train on for this treatment well id not really thought about it, so i said i dont really no :green: anyway he said to keep his number and to give him a call if do need someone to train on :!: for the course.

what do you think ? he sounded really nice and we had bit of a joke on the phone. Im going mobile soon this could be my first client "!!! would a perv really have you go to there home ? think i'l end up taking my identifcation spray if i get male like this? where do you do training for this sort of course ?

Axiom's your guy for male waxing training, Male Waxing Training

If this potential client is serious, then I'm sure he'd be happy to model on a course led by a male instructor, where several other therapists would be present. At least in that environment, there should be far less chance of any monkey business anyway.

What's identification spray by the way?

Sorry but why does everyone assume that men have some hidden agenda - if a woman was on the other end of the phone asking the same, would you be posting that she might be in some way suspicious.

I know in this day and age we have to be careful about treating people in our own home but if this potential client is reading this, how do you think they are now feeling.

I bet it took some guts for him to phone you up.

Please, to all therapists, think before posting comments like this.

owww thanks for that i will look into that :green: I would love to have more male client for all sorts of treatments. i just dont want to put myself at risk by doing it. The sprays like a red die that stops on the skin for about 14 days cant be washed off i keep it in my car just in case .

Berins also offer male intimate waxing courses on a one to one basis,
joe90 on here would be your trainer for your area, hth

Axioms training is good too, just wanted to let you know of your options.

I'm sure he is not a perv as you put it but a genuine client that would be grateful for the treatment.

I wasn't on the phone, but I'm going out on a limb and assuming he's the genuine article
AND even if he does 'mind' an audience, it still doesn't mean he's a perv.
Just means that he doesn't want everybody and his uncle perusing his plumbing, or else he'd pose in a magazine........................

Set up some training, and go from there. He said he'd be a willing victim (lol sorry, but that's how I view waxing ROFL ) for your training.... so test the waters.
Worst case scenario, you learn a new service.

Like i said this could be my first client being a mobile therapist. I dont want to have a bad experience and be put off from doing my mobile business :!: im not trained in doing any male waxing and have always been told that you need two therapist it.

Pervs can sound just nice (no, I'm not saying your client is :) ), and completely normal and nice people can sound confused. It's really up to you and your judgement (apart from boldly speaking pervs :green:) but mostly your gut feeling.

But don't be discouraged. Of course you go and get all the training you need first, but don't go into that "I'm affraid of men" trap.
I know so many salons that are losing business because they are "affraid".

Of what??!
I'm home based. Working alone. I refused few clients at first, but not because I was affraid or they sounded wrong, but because I wasn't comfortable with my skill level. Now I just keep the open mind. I ask many questions when they call first, and listen carefully. And nothing bad ever happened to me, never! Those are my best clients!

Where I live (big city of 1 million people and surrounding area) no one wants to do male intimate waxing. Well I do. I learned it, I do it!
And this may sound odd, but I found male waxing easier for me to do, so slowly my nail business grows into male waxing resort :green:.

I would second Axiom's training what he doesn't know about waxing isn't worth knowing.

He is an industry leader and his training is excellent not just good!

He did not sound like he was at all, he just sounds really interested to find a local waxing therapist and continued the conversation on as you said not at the min which left the possibility open. Did you enquire where he had got your details from maybe someone had recommended you so that was why he was enthusiastic perhaps?

If you are not happy with a situation like that at any time, would it be possible for you to put a safety plan in place; perhaps take a friend in the car to wait outside for the first time so you can check it out, deffinately make sure someone knows where you are, or just stick to female waxing only then its got to be more fair for all concerned. I should imagine its quite a tricky one if you are mobile to be honest and offering intimate waxing for both sexes, but I can't imagine from his point of view its a "walk in the park on a sunny day", so not for the faint hearted, but a procedure he likes to have done regularly. TBH my Mum would be horrified if she new I ever had an intiate waxing, but to me it would be nothing unusual with the right therapist, so if you think about it like that he is probably just comfortable with the procedure. You would have to be very, very comfortable with the procedure yourself and strictly business like to offer that as a mobile service I would imagine. Good luck, sounds like you would be comfortable to train xxx

I think it should be left to your judgement Hun. I personally don't do treatments on any men unless i know them or they are recommended to me by someone i know, but thats how I feel comfortable doing things.
I think if he is willing to let you train on him and he is genuine then thats a really sweet thing for him to do.
Go with what you feel is best! xxx

Ditto to the above... he is a brilliant trainer :)

he must have got my details from my website as im not set up or ready to go just yet. I dont have any male treatment on there so its really just must have been on the off chance he rang

I didn't read anything but an honest enquiry. Use him as your model on your course (if you don't already have one) it will break the ice for you and you may get some more valuable clients from it.

Unfortunately there are some "wrong uns" out there (men & women) but I can't see anything wrong with what you have described. Just see how comfortable you are about the call and go with your personal judgement.

I haven't heard that you need two therapists for it - where did you hear this?

Good advice sknight! xxx

Although I wasn't on the end of the phone to him, I dont think he sounds a perv, but I do think the 'I'll show you' sounds a bit odd.

Is this the only enquiry from a man? Have you decided you want to off services to men on waxing before, or is it just his call that has made you think about it?

The reason I ask is that if he is the only enquiry then I would first wait or look into a survey perhaps on your website where men can vote whether they would like waxing services in your area. I only say that because I guess to do male waxing will cost a lot and to only receive 1 enquiry from it, it doesn't seem worth it to spend that money on it. He could be your only client and also a one off, you never know though, if its done and advertised then you may gain more from it.

Although I am not in your industry, im in hairdressing, I am currently doing a Barbering course which i am doing due to high demand in Gents calling up for appointments, if i had not had any calls or just 1 then I am not sure I would have spend that money on the course. The other week I had an enquiry from someone wanting a really funky Hair cut which I had not had training in so I couldn't help her, but she was the only client to request this cut, so I dont see the point in doing some training in this cut unless I have a small handful in demand for it. I find I could spend the money on training in another cut which I have a lot of demand for.

That's my opinion though, and I guess everyone will see different views. If it is something you have been thinking about before then go for it.

Thanks for your reply, thats the only thing that made me wonder if he was a genuine client from the whole of our chat, i dont no if i was thinking more into him wanting to tell me how to do it, or like he say's he as it done monthly he bound to no how its done is'int he , o0ow i dont no its just knowin who to trust.

i'l be set-up and ready to go for the end of the month, From my website i had my first booking call monday booking me next year and then tuesday this man called. Id not really thought about doing it befor. And i didnt think many people had it done? If he was genuine then i would do no problem. And i cant find anyone in my area that does it,

He sounds really lovely and genuine to me. What he was aking for was to be a model for you when you do your training as he's obviously finding he can't afford his waxing. Don't worry.....totally normal and you handled it great.
