I personally cannot paint 5 nails in much under 2 minutes, but to be honest I pride myself on a good polish job whereas (not accusing anyone in particular before anyone starts fretting) I have honestly seen some nails painted that are quite frankly disgusting, messy and not In my opinion what I would pay for.
The nails I'm talking about are mainly gelish so are some tecs trying to keep up with the lamp?
I use shellac, gelish, bio so I'm not tied to any company but these are just my findings :)
Much love xx

I've had a few 'chats' with other techs, I like being able to do a hand at a time, it's less for a client to fidgit about with and mess up, I don't know anything at all about the LED lamps so can't coment and I was lucky enough to be at the event so got my lamp then and I wouldn't swap it for the world. I don't think there is any make of gel etc that the cnd lamp won't cure, it has a count down built in so I know when the bulbs need changing and those two things make it worth the money. One lamp and I can experiment to my hearts content knowing that I won't need another lamp. This one does it all.
And yes, those techs did want to try my lamp before they bought a new one and yes they do all use different makes of gel and no not a single one of them has had a breakdown of service from using my lamp:)
And no I don't get paid a sales comission from cnd:green:

Gigi come on, no one is dissing the CND cure time, apart from it can be like waiting for the kettle to boil :), and really does it matter if it is 5 fingers or 4 and a thumb, as has been said, especially if techs are using the old Brisa lamp?

No matter what we say you will always come back with something!! .....if it cures it cures....with the correct UV or LED output, as no doubt researchers are investigating as we type (well maybe not on Hogmanay:))

In the words of Nailzoo, "Use what works for you......."

Happy New year xx

Oh dear ... Does it always have to be an argument out of nothing ? You know what ..? I am not drinking, not dissing nor arguing.

I asked reasonable polite questions .. No one yet has told me exactly what I want to know, which is how would a faster cure time help me if I don't work faster than the cure time I already am used to? Pretty simple. Many of us seem to be coping quite well with a 2 minute cure although I don't think I'd go back to my old CND lamp now that I have the new one as it really does chop 5 minutes off my old service time.

The base coat I use cures in 10 seconds, and that other hand just sits there waiting for me as I finish the next hand because I personally cannot apply base coat to five fingers in 10 seconds. So the super fast cure time of 10 seconds is not such a huge advantage really. Neither do I think a faster cure time for the other coats would help me that much, maybe by 30 seconds per hand.

I totally agree with what works for you is good ... And all I have said is I don't think a faster cure time would work for me in a salon situation ( but it would be fab for 1 finger nail demonstrations) ... And no one yet has convinced me otherwise. Have a great evening all and Happy Hogmonay, Fiona.

I don't think you have started anything but a healthy discussion of the different options and merits of two different ways of curing gels ... Surely as adults we can do that right?

is it imperitave (sp?) that gelish is cured with a harmony lamp .. just hadnt realised would be quite so expensive :o
Hey Sarah

Thank you so much for your interest ... your question has been answered by now.
Just wanted to add if your a Facebook user take a look at Nail Harmony UnitedKingdom page .. we did a little quiz on how LED lamp has helped them.. one Tech in a salon was able to fit FOURTEEN hands and TWO feets in a day.
Impressive huh?
Some techs work slower and chat so find 36w works fine for them.. other Celebrity techs and major high street/extremely busy Salons NEED the speed
and now actually "couldn't survive" without their precious LED's lol.

The Led price range.. bearing in mind Harmony's Gelish are THE FIRST to use such an amazing piece of technology sets us apart in the Harmony Salons up and down the country .. it'll be your finest investment.

Love n Hugs

I'm sure CND would not advise this.

Have you tried all colours?

Sent from my iPhone using SalonGeek

No, I use gelish a lot as they have more choice in colours. I have only few shellac bottles: iced cappuccino, tropix, hot chilis, fedora, rose bud and top coat.
Works perfectly fine with LED lamp and gelish base coat.

it may work but im sure CND dont advice you do it as said above :)
if CND wanted u to cure it with a LED lamp they would have releasted one!
if it works for u great but i like to use the equipment that CND reccomend as i feel this is giving my client the best service posible and i will not get service breakdown :) x

Do you know how many hours that work day was? Just curious, thanks for sharing the info!

I understand what you saying, but LED lamp works with shellac, therefore I'll not invest £100 in another lamp. Can't see the point. Of course CND would not advice to use other lamp as this is in their business, it's quite simple.

I know a specialist in LED who sells LED lights all over GB and he tells me there is no good reason why the lamps should not be a very reasonable price as the lights definitely are.

So the suggestion is....we are being ripped off ???

I was thinking exact same thing,, wow seriously is that possible? Come on I can't see that happening alot.

If the tech who did 16 clients in one day (14 hands & 2 feet) was using an led lamp and allowing 30 minutes for each set then it would mean an eight hour working day plus lunch & breaks.

In an ideal world yes but seriously I can't see that happening to often every day. 30 min start finish including removal?? Rebooking etc toilet breaks , I really can't see how anyone would do 16 clients a day all shellac/gellish or whatever similar .

FYI Fiona or maybe I am reading it wrongly ??

If some of the pictures on the facebook page are by the woman who does 14 sets a day I'm not suprised she does them that fast because the quality of polishing is pretty poor tbh.
(not all of them I might add)

Now before anyone accuses me of dissing the LED lamp or anything else can I just say I am NOT.

As an experienced nail technician, I just really would like Sheila or someone, to explain to me how one would make their money back any faster using the LED curing or UV 4 bulb lamp curing? One can only paint as fast as one can paint ... which is slower than the cure time .. IOW the lamp is faster than I would be. So the clients' gel might be cured, but the other hand would be waiting for me! The fact that the cure is faster doesn't make me faster. So how do you save time with it? And are there any other benefits apart from a faster cure? I mean does the service last any longer?

Another question to which I would be grateful for a reply is .. Does the LED cure five fingers at a time like the CND UV Lamp or is it the four fingers two thumbs as it is in most other 4 bulb UV Lamps?

I do find that the five finger cure with the CND UV Lamp is the thing that has saved me on average about 5 minutes so my service is very quick anyway. Just can't see where the huge benefit is in the LED apart from not having to replace the bulbs as often, but the UV bulbs last for months and the UV lamp is much less expensive so the cost of the bulbs (what twice a year?) is in fact cheaper than investing all at once in a more expensive option that does the same job?

Well that is how I see it anyway. Convince me. I really would like the answers.

I am not sure I can answer or convince you Geeg, as I really think at the end of the day this is something that is just down to personal preference.

I am a Gelish user as I just love the colour choices, and initially I have been using the old Brisa lamp to cure it....whilst I know technicians who have been using a 36 watt lamp, with no problems.
However the Brisa Lamp tended to overcure the basecoat as it only needed a 1 minute cure and of course the Brisa is set for 2 minutes, this I feel led to it taking longer to remove the product at the next appointment.

I have been away from the practical hands on side of our Industry for some time so my timings were a little slow to say the least  but I do still think I can apply a precision polish to 5 fingers within 2 minutes!

Did I need an LED Lamp....NO!
Did I want an LED Lamp....YES!!

Has it cut my times down....probably not!!! as I take the time I want and chat with my client, I try to ensure I do a good job, let her know I am using the latest products and technology, and make her feel she is getting the best service for her money, and most importantly leave feeling better than she did when she arrived!! Could I do that if I was squeezing 16 clients into an 8 hour day:eek: I don't think so!

In my opinion it is the client who had the relaxing time and a chat (and beautiful nails) that will rebook and recommend you to all her friends, not the clients who felt they were on a conveyor belt and the next in line was right behind her breathing down her neck.

To be honest the LED Lamp has maybe added to my time initially as I find the thumbs just plain awkward to do!!! Yes Geeg it is a 4 finger then thumb lamp.
I have been advised that the lamp should be placed at the edge of my desk and the client can place her fingers under the desk when her thumbs are in the lamp.

Sorry, but with my desk this is impossible, as it has a deep lip in the client side.! I therefore am leaving the thumbs until I have totally finished with the fingers then I hold the lamp slightly over the end of the desk for each cure of the thumbs...not very practical or professional looking I think :o
I have solved this problem and am awaiting a clear plinth/box to sit on my desk with the lamp on it, which I think will look cool and will make my Gelish service quicker and calmer lol!!

Had known this before I purchased the lamp it maybe would have made me think twice...but now I have it I still love it, it is neat and I do love the faster curing times, and I feel the fact that it is cutting edge technology adds to marketing my services.

On average I take 30 to 40 minutes for a Gelish service including picking a colour(which can take ages !) application and updating record cards, and of course chatting to my client.
With removal it can take anything from 45-60 minutes but I think using the LED Lamp and the Magis wraps will bring that down to 45 which I would be happy with.

I don't see why this thread has maybe got a bit off track at times, as at the end of the day we should all be using what we feel is right for our business, and suits our clientel and pockets!

Just my opinion, I hope you all made it to the end of this rather long post ;) !!

Sorry i know this is just your opinion but dont think thats very fair of you to make a comment like that on here as that person could be a memeber. Some of the people on the facebook page a newbies and new to Gelish so i still in the learning stage so maybe the nails are not up to standard but Salon geek is not the place for you to make these sort of comments.
