Just had a flick through my professional beauty magazine and noticed that a lot of the usual big names are not going to be at excel this year.

Ive had quite a few emails from suppliers stating they won't be there and that they will have offers directly available through them for the week of excel instead.

Im not going so its not a problem for me but I find it interesting that more and more brands are ditching pro beauty. I went two years ago and thought it was lacking a lot of things compared to when it used to be at Olympia.

Anyone else think its on its way out ?

sign of the times im afraid..and such a shame

A few of the larger suppliers I have spoken to have decided to exhibit at Birmingham this year. That will hopefully make for a better show than last year.

I won't be able to attend this year though as will be at the Vegas beauty show instead to see how they do it in the US.

You lucky thing Jo, I think Susan (angel fingers) has been.
The problem I think for the big names, well for any of the companies really is the cost of the stands, then you need to have promo's even if its the 17.5% discount that's still a lot of money. So I think the big names are taking the tack that everyone knows who they are so save the money for the stand and put that into your promo's. Works for me:lol: Sad for the newbies though, they don't get to have the fun that we did.

I'm gutted and i'm actually wondering if they are going to have many stands there, lol.

I still want to go, i usually enjoy the show. But its such a shame. I don't go to the Birmingham show so i look forward to London.

Its funny though because a lot of people say how they overspend at the shows, so you would think it was worth the company's while to do a stand.

I know!!! O.P.I wont be there :( So i'm not going now. I spoke to the lady at Capital today she said they wont go as the stands are too expensive and it's just not worth it.
I spend absolute fortunes at that show, I need a lorry to take me home lol so i'm sure I cant be the only one. Last year was the same though if you remember. It's a shame! xxx

Im gutted at the line up too. A few companies I was hoping to see are not exhibiting. Im sure I will still manage to spend a fortune:eek:

Iv never done the Birmingham one, I may think about that one this year

Neither Perfect Nails nor Jessica will be exhibiting either ... definitely a sign of the times, which is such a shame really.

Like many of the big names who won't be there, they will be offering show discounts in any event, so it's well worth checking out if you're after some of those all important bargains!

You *should* do the Birmingham one this year - something tells me it's going to be particularly fab ;)

Ha ha Ruth and I know why. Just sorry I can't be there supporting but Vegas V Birmingham, sorry chick, no contest. Plus to boot will be doing some exciting stuff with a few peeps whilst I am there :)

I also noticed the lack of 'big names' this year too, when I checked out the exhibitors list.
I was quite disappointed, so instead of visiting Excel, I am taking my daughter & we are going to a spa (Forest Pines) in north lincolnshire for a spot of pampering & overnight drinkies & more pampering on monday before coming home - it's about time I was on the other end for a change!

Will most probably go to Birmingham, I seem to think I've registered on the website this year & as I've never been to the Birmingham show, it will give me something to look forward to!

Ive just looked at the Birmingham list and it doesn't look any better than usual. Shame as its only a 30min drive :(

It absolutely would be fab:):) much better quality of exhibitors apparently lol

I think that sadly due to high costs for stands that beauty shows are on there way out.........

It's not just the price of booking the stand though... you then find that you have to pay extra for an electricity supply and lighting (like £150 or more - you might as well buy a car battery and an inverter from Maplin's for less money and be able to re-use it over and over again rather than cough up for some random company at Excel or the NEC to charge you megabucks to rent a 4-way socket and a couple of lights for the duration of the show)... and then you end up being spammed by all sorts of companies wanting to rent you this, that and the other too (e.g. LCD/plasma TV screens etc)...

Then (especially for larger businesses) there's the cost of paying employees to man the stalls at the show, as well as putting them up in hotels if the venue isn't local to them... as well as having to offer show discounts etc - and then there's the hassle of carting stock (as well as presentation material for the stall itself)... so I can quite see why *established* companies (who already have a reputation in the industry) are having second thoughts about exhibiting at trade shows.

However, I still think it's a great opportunity for new and lesser known companies to get out there and promote themselves - assuming they can find a suitably affordable stall and make enough extra business from being at the show to justify the outlay...

No way!!! Thats awful. I didnt know that!!

I must say I am dissappointed with the lack of suppliers. I am still going (leaving in a min) as I have deliberatly held out on doing my orders so I can go to the show. Will let you know later how I get on xx:hug:

I just had a look at the exhibiter list and feel there is nothing new, and nothing that I desperately want to have a look at.

Three years ago it would have been a must to exhibit, and great fun. But, due to a combination of things the cost can't be justified.
1) The Recession
2) Internet makes it easier and cheaper to promote new products/lines
3) Poor turnouts and atronomical stand costs
4) Visitors expecting lower price show offers in an already reduced priced market.

We have taken the view that if we do the shows this year. Our costs would have to be covered by a price increase on solutions & kit sales. We are aware that most companies took a big hit on the shows last year and have struggled to bring it back this year.

Very big shame as they were fantastic in the past!! Hope the organisers will bring their costs down so that they dont become a thing of the past.
