I apolagise if this question has already been asked on here but as I am new I hope you will forgive me!

I was just wondering how you guys manage to make your white smile line so perfectly curved when using gel, do you have any tips for doing the smile line? I was taught to put the pink on and then with another brush wipe off the pink at the tip and make your smile line this way, is this a good way or do you use another method when adding your white gel, I am a perfectionist and love to get every nail the same and this takes me time so if you guys no of a trick i would love to hear it!

Thank you x

1.Apply a thin layer of pink to the entire nail surface ,do not cure. Create the smile line with a back swipe of your gel brush
2. Cure for 15-30sec
3. Apply white gel, clean your brush and use a back swipe to clean & perfect your smile line
4.Apply clear
:)

I use reverse application technique using young nails sculpting gel, feather it out cut in the smile line then cure. then apply your white or colour not forgetting to cap your free edge

Reverse application is one way. When using Pink and white. Another way is to what I call 'string it' if you are using a clear gel for the overlay.

I learned to 'string it' and find it very much quicker than the reverse method but they both do the job if done well with the gels you are using.

Lay down your bonder layer and cure.

Take up a small bead of white sculpting gel and 'touch it down' in the corner of the smile. Lift your brush up slightly from the 'touch down' point and you will see the white gel form a 'string'. Simply lay the string across the smile in a curve and you have a perfect smile. :green:
Use more white gel to cover the rest of zone 1. and cure.

Add your builder layer in clear over the top and cure and finish.

additionally, you could try using a dotting tool to apply it if you use a paint on white. it works rather like using a ball point pen.
you can see something similar on my blog spot where i have used a dotting too to help with a 'moon manicure' i did in gel.

I lay down the gel (sculpting white) lower than the smile and working from behind I use gel to push gel into the smile line. I then butt up the pink and overlay with clear.

I use this method too and find it works brilliantly....pushing the white into place from behind the bead gives a nice crisp finish. x

There are quite a few ways of doing it. You have to have a play and find which suits you best.

Here are two methods that I use

apply the base gel & cure
then wipe off the tacky residue, so that the white does not 'bleed' into it
use a really good quality fine haired square brush and push the gel to make a smile line first, then pull the gel down over the free edge (if that makes sense!!)

or

apply the base gel & cure
then wipe off the tacky residue, so that the white does not 'bleed' into it
use a dotting tool to literally draw a smile line - use enough gel so that you have enough to pull it down over the free edge (which you can use a brush for)

we also use the 'stringing' that geeg talks about

For most of my french clients, I....
base & build - cure - wipe
whites - cure
fill in the nail bed with a pink, a peach or whatever and swipe over my cured whites so that the white doesn't change colour - cure
then finish with clear gloss gel

This is the way I do it, it's so simple and easy:)

i use a dotting tool as i find its the easiest way.i have more control over the product and i get a better coverage.i also dont always have to sweep or tidy the smile lines using this method.
you will need to try a few different methods as you may not find works for me will work for you.
good luck and let us know what you found best.x

I use Creative/CND and their white gel comes in a polish type bottle with a brush to apply the white.

1. Apply bonder, cure
2. Brush on white gel to tip just above where your smile line will be then I perfect and clean up my smile line with a very small and fine gel brush, cure
3. Apply clear/pink gel over entire nail, cure
4. Apply sealant, cure

So easy! It's frustrating trying to get the smile line perfect, this way you can just kind of slap on your white and clean it up with a small gel brush. Quicker, simpler, less frustrating and your smile lines will be beautiful.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Thank you so much for all your replies, I will have an evening practising and let you know what works best for me! Thanks x :)
