Hi, I just had a quick question. I have recently set up doing spray tanning & eyelash extensions (love love love them) and all is going well in fact its picking up quickly.

I was wondering if it might be best to aquire another mobile number purely for my business just so I can try and keep my personal and business life separate.

Has anyone else done this? I wasn't too sure if having two phones would be a nuisance?

I was going to but decided not to because...yes it would be a right pain as I have to take so much stuff, without worrying about another phone.
I'm happy combining my personal one with business. It gets turned off when I go to bed and I tell my clients call me whenever because I don't mind xxx

oooo good point, it would be a faff trying to remember another phone let alone charging them both!

Sticking to one phone it is then.

For some reason I always find people call just as I am about to drive, pay at a till etc, imagine two phones going off at once, nightmare!!!

Thanks x

I only have the one phone.....cant determine when it is going to go off but voicemail is a godsend. However I have a professional name thats different to my real name, so any texts/calls/voicemails that start with
"Hi tonilee" I know are for work as my real name is not tonilee!!:green:

I like the alias idea!

I shall stick with one phone, to be fair chances are I get another line and no one calls

I have changed my voicemail now to a personal introduction so people know they have reached the right number I have found this has helped.

For regular clients I set them up with a different ring tone to my family and friends so that I know when it is a customer or a personal call.

For people that aren't in any of these categories, the ring tone is different, so I know that it will usually be a new customer enquiry or usually someone trying to sell me advertising or something!

It is all quite easy once you get used to it!

I have 2 phones and I personally believe it is the most professional way to operate. My work phone is only ever answered 'Hello, V Nails', my voicemail says 'hello, you have reached V Nails but I am unable to take your call at the moment. Please leave me a message and I'll get back to you as soon as I can' and I always know if my personal phone rings when I am with a client I need to at least look at it whereas my work phone goes to voicemail.

I don't see what is so hard about having 2 phones. My personal phone is in my pocket and my work phone in my handbag...... If a new client calls from work or is ex-directory the number will come up as unavailable anyway, so I'd rather not have the dilemma of whether to use my business greeting or not.....

More professional IMO.

I use 2 phones as well. I find it necessary to draw the line between professional and home life.

I prefer using two phones as well. I can keep my personal phone in my bag at work times and check it when im free and have my work phone with me at all times when im in the salon! Put it on silent when im with a client and then at the end of the day switch it off but my family can still get through to me :)

I would definitely recommend 2 phones as well - also I think if you use an email, you should have a work and a personal one :green:

I have two phones as well. Here's why I have one solely for business;

  • I can turn the business phone turned off outside business hours, so that I don't get disturbed 24/7
  • I can answer it professionally, with my salon name
  • I can use the number on my flyers, price lists and website.
  • Call costs are 100% tax deductible
